Delayed Diagnosis of Cor Triatriatum Dexter: A Case Report and Comprehensive Review of Embryology, Imaging, and Management.

Cor triatriatum dexter (CTD) is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly resulting from the persistence of the right valve of the sinus venosus, leading to partial or complete partitioning of the right atrium. It accounts for a minority of congenital heart defects and may present with various clinical features ranging from asymptomatic incidental findings to severe right-sided heart failure. We report the case of a 45-year-old female with longstanding exertional dyspnea, peripheral edema, hepatomegaly, and severe bilateral varicose veins. Abdominal imaging revealed features of hepatic congestion, whe

Symptomatic cor triatriatum dexter in an adult managed by transcatheter balloon dilatation.

A 22-year-old female with effort intolerance and a history of intermittent facial and pedal edema was found to have systemic venous congestion due to restrictive cor triatriatum dexter. Transcatheter balloon dilatation resulted in a good outcome and resolution of symptoms.

Triatrial Appearance in a Patient With Atrial Septal Defect: A Case Report.

Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a common congenital heart anomaly, often diagnosed with relative ease. However, the presence of additional structural abnormalities, such as cor triatriatum dexter (CTD) or a prominent eustachian valve, can create a triatrial appearance, complicating diagnosis and management. Accurate differentiation of these anomalies is essential to guide appropriate clinical decisions. We report the case of a 25-year-old male with exertional dyspnea and fatigue. Cardiovascular examination revealed a wide, fixed splitting of S2 and a systolic murmur. Transthoracic echocardiograp

[Rare case of renal infarction in a patient with cor triatriatum sinistrum: clinical implications and management].

Cor triatriatum is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly with an estimated incidence among congenital heart diseases of approximately 0.1-0.4%. It is characterized by the presence of a fibromuscular membrane dividing the left atrium or right into two chambers. Approximately 83% of patients with cor triatriatum have cor triatriatum sinistrum (CTS) and 17% have cor triatriatum dextrum (CTD) [1]. CTS usually presents around 31 ± 23 years and is associated with higher rates of cardioembolic events, usually stroke due to mechanisms such as blood flow stagnation within the atrium, its association with a

One-stop procedure for persistent atrial fibrillation with cor triatriatum sinister under intracardiac echocardiography guidance: a case report.

This case report describes the treatment of a 76-year-old male patient diagnosed with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) and cor triatriatum sinister (CTS). The patient presented with palpitations and shortness of breath for four years, exacerbated over two weeks. Cardiac ultrasound and computed tomography angiography (CTA) confirmed Bank II type complete CTS, with all four pulmonary veins draining into an accessory atrium. The patient also had lacunar stroke and heart failure, with a CHA2DS2-VASc score of 5 and HAS-BLED score of 2, indicating high stroke risk and moderate bleeding risk. Give

Ante-mortem diagnosis of unilateral pulmonary vein stenosis in a cat: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) detection in cats may be challenging. Pulmonary venous stenosis (PVS) is rare in cats and can lead to PH. The only reported PVS case received a post-mortem diagnosis. Imaging during the cat's lifetime established the diagnosis in this case. CASE PRESENTATION: A 2 year-old Norwegian Forest cat was diagnosed with pulmonary oedema and PH secondary to cor triatriatum sinister (CTS) and showed improved breathing following two subcutaneous furosemide treatments, 1 and 2 mg/kg, during an overnight stay at the referral veterinary hospital. Sildenafil alone (0.6

Case of a Middle-Aged Woman with Sick Sinus Syndrome and Cor Triatriatum Dexter.

This case study involves a 51-year-old woman with a complex cardiovascular condition, namely cor triatriatum dexter, accompanied by sick sinus syndrome. She presented with bradycardia, dizziness, and amaurosis, and was admitted to the emergency department due to right limb numbness. Diagnostic examinations, including computed tomography and cardiac color ultrasound screening, revealed the presence of cor triatriatum dexter with an enlarged left atrium and ventricle. Additional abnormalities, such as absent inferior vena cava and polysplenia syndrome, were also detected. Based on the findings,

A Case Report of Cor Triatriatum Sinister (CTS) in an Asymptomatic Adult with Chronic Adhesive Pericarditis.

INTRODUCTION: Cor Triatriatum Sinister (CTS) is a rare congenital anomaly, accounting for 0.1%- 0.4% of congenital heart diseases. While often diagnosed and treated in infancy, some cases remain asymptomatic until adulthood due to large fenestrations. This report presents a unique case of CTS in an adult coexisting with chronic adhesive pericarditis, which may have contributed to chronic atrial dilatation, a condition not previously documented. CASE PRESENTATION: A 60-year-old asymptomatic Taiwanese male underwent a routine medical examination. Coronary computed tomography angiography reveale

Incidentally Discovered Adult Congenital Heart Disease in a Patient With Decompensated Heart Failure.

Cor triatriatum is a rare congenital heart defect that divides the right or left atrium into three chambers. Although the diagnosis is typically made within the first years of birth, it can occasionally be made later in adulthood and is frequently associated with other cardiac defects but may be present in isolation. Clinical manifestations range from lung congestion, exhaustion, coughing, and dyspnea to the onset of heart failure. The treatment depends on the existence of symptoms; asymptomatic patients need only regular follow-up, while symptomatic patients require intervention either surgic

Cardiac MR imaging of cor triatriatum sinister in an elderly man: A rare case report.

Cor triatriatum sinister an interesting and relatively rare congenital condition in which the left atrium is bisected by a fibromuscular membrane into 2 distinct chambers. Classically, patients are diagnosed at an early age, although in some cases they remain asymptomatic until adulthood and this is mainly due to differences in the degree of obstruction to pulmonary venous return and the presence of associated lesions. However, some patients may remain asymptomatic into adolescence or late adulthood due to incomplete membranes or other favorable circumstances. Although there are only a few cas

Cutis verticis gyrata associated with congenital heart disease.

Cutis verticis gyrata (CVG) is a very rare benign disorder characterised by convoluted folds and deep furrows of the scalp that mimic cerebral sulci and gyri. Associations with other pathologies as neuropsychiatric and/or ophthalmologic disorders, secondary cases to inflammatory or neoplastic processes, as well as cases associated to genetic disorders as Turner's syndrome have been reported, but there is no literature describing an association with a congenital structural heart defect and no other underlying condition. We report a case of primary CVG in a 3-week-old female infant associated wi
