People who have structural or developmental lung disease are more likely to develop non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections. We present the case of a young man in his 30s who had unilateral pulmonary artery agenesis on the right side and presented with a 6-month history of productive cough and fever. His CT scan showed nodular and cavitating lesions on the right side, and sputum analysis confirmed infection with Mycobacterium chimaera He had to undergo modifications in his treatment, including a change from rifampicin to rifabutin due to drug interactions and his amikacin had to be stopped du

d-Transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA) is the most common form of congenital heart disease that presents with cyanosis in a newborn. The aorta arises from the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery arises from the left ventricle. It constitutes 3-5% of all congenital heart defects. In a simple d-TGA (about two-thirds of patients), there is no other cardiac abnormality other than a patent foramen ovale (PFO) and a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). In a complex d-TGA additional cardiac abnormalities such as VSD, pulmonary stenosis or coronary abnormalities are present. About one-third to

BACKGROUND: Patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) have a time-dependent increased risk of ventricular tachycardia (VT). Slow conducting anatomical isthmuses (SCAIs) are the dominant VT substrates in adults with rTOF. It is unknown if they are present at younger age.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to characterize VT substrates in patients with rTOF <30 years of age.
METHODS: Data of consecutive patients with rTOF aged <30 years who underwent electroanatomical mapping and programmed electrical stimulation between 2005 and 2022 were analyzed.
RESULTS: Fifty-five patients were include

Pulmonary valve replacement and right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction with valved conduits have been the shortcomings of paediatric cardiac surgeons in the treatment of CHD. In recent decades, encouraging achievements have been made in right ventricular outflow tract technology. Since Klinner reported the first right ventricle-to-pulmonary artery connection using unvalved conduits made of autologous pericardium in 1964, various right ventricle-to-pulmonary artery conduits have gradually been used in the treatment of various complex CHD. Compared with other materials, valved homograft

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary arteriovenous fistula (PAVF) is a rare disease, and its symptoms lack specificity. For patients with coronary heart disease(CHD), hypertension and other common cardiovascular diseases, PAVF is easy to be ignored. We presented a case of massive PAVF complicated with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease by interventional treatment to improve the understanding of this complex disease.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 77-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital due to chest tightness and shortness of breath following activities, which was diagnosed with CHD and hypoxemia i

Dextro-transposition of the great arteries (D-TGA) is the second most common cyanotic heart disease, accounting for 5-7% of all congenital heart defects (CHDs). It is characterized by ventriculoarterial (VA) connection discordance, atrioventricular (AV) concordance, and a parallel relationship with D-TGA. As a result, the pulmonary and systemic circulations are separated [the morphological right ventricle (RV) is connected to the aorta and the morphological left ventricle (LV) is connected to the pulmonary artery]. This anomaly is included in the group of developmental disorders of embryonic h

INTRODUCTION: Here, we described a patient with ischemic stroke due to embolism, through an isolated pulmonary arteriovenous fistula (PAVF). Our case could be a paradigm of embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) with an uncommon cause, providing an etiologic investigation process in addition to diagnostic pitfalls and pearls, eventually raising neurologists' ability to treat ESUS.
CASE REPORT: A 37-year-old right-handed woman presented to our emergency department with sudden onset left upper limb and lower limb weakness. She denied a past medical history of hypertension, diabetes, heart

Unilateral absence of pulmonary artery (UAPA) is a rare type of congenital abnormality that may coexist with other congenital abnormalities or present as an isolated lesion, the latter form can be asymptomatic. Surgical procedure is usually carried out when UAPA was diagnosed with significant symptoms, and the aim of surgery is to restore the pulmonary flow distribution. The right-side UAPA is a considerable challenge for surgeons to process surgery, however, technical description of this type of UAPA are limited. Here we described a rare case of a two-month girl with absence of right pulmonar

BACKGROUND: Retroaortic innominate vein (RAIV) is an extremely rare anomaly of systemic venous return. The prevalence of RAIV has been estimated to be 0.02% in individuals without congenital heart disease and 0.5% in those with congenital heart disease. Previous studies have demonstrated an association between RAIV and both conotruncal abnormalities and right aortic arch. Our center specializes in surgical procedures for patients with pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (PA/VSD/MAPCAs), and we have frequently observed the presence of RA

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate early- and long-term outcomes of the surgical treatment for coarctation of the aorta based on a new classification system.
METHODS: A retrospective clinical review of 111 patients with coarctation of the aorta who underwent surgery (March 2011 to August 2020) was performed. We categorised coarctation of the aorta into type I, with all three head vessels tightly packed; type II, with the left subclavian artery separated from the two other head vessels; and type III, with all three head vessels separated from one another. Each type included subtype a, with a short isthmi

BACKGROUND: The occurrence of Isolated left subclavian artery (ILSA) is relatively rare, ILSA is caused by the persistence of the dorsal segment of the sixth left arch, with regression of the fourth arch artery and interruption of the left dorsal aorta at the distal end of the seventh intersegmental artery on the left side during embryonic development. The left subclavian artery is connected to the pulmonary artery through an arterial duct, which can be closed or unobstructed. This abnormality can lead to congenital subclavian steal syndrome and vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency.

Persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) is a congenital venous anomaly. It is frequently associated with other cardiac anomalies. The presence of dual superior vena cava is due to the lack of development of the left cardinal vein in utero. The coronary sinus gets dilated as a result of increased blood flow to the right heart and may be seen on echocardiography. This case describes a 50-year-old lady who presented to the emergency department with lightheadedness, nausea, and vomiting for one day, and her electrocardiogram showed a heart rate of 30 beats per minute. A temporary pacemaker was

BACKGROUND: With the advent of more intensive rhythm monitoring strategies, ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) are increasingly detected in Fontan patients. However, the prognostic implications of VA are poorly understood. We assessed the incidence of VA in Fontan patients and the implications on transplant-free survival.
METHODS: Medical records of Fontan patients seen at a single center between 2002 and 2019 were reviewed to identify post-Fontan VA (nonsustained ventricular tachycardia >4 beats or sustained >30 seconds). Patients with preFontan VA were excluded. Hemodynamically unstable VA was d

A three-year-old, spayed female, Bichon Frise was diagnosed with an anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery, a rare congenital coronary artery defect which has only been reported in two other dogs. Echocardiography was initially performed, though the final diagnosis was made with angiography and computed tomography angiography. An extensive network of collateral coronary circulation allowed for communication between the dilated, tortuous right coronary artery, and the anomalous left coronary artery. Though collateral circulation likely prolonged the patient's lif

UNLABELLED: The caudal and basal parts of the lungs are fused together in a rare congenital bronchopulmonary anomaly known as horseshoe lung. The majority of horseshoe lung cases are associated with scimitar syndrome. Most patients present with nonspecific symptoms. Multidetector pneumoangiography can be used to diagnose horseshoe lung, which shows that the isthmus of the pulmonary parenchyma traverses the midline, connecting the two lungs together. Treatment and prognosis are usually determined depending on the presence of other concomitant anomalies and the degree of symptom severity.
