A 47-year-old man with a history of New York Heart Association (NYHA) class III heart failure and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation presented with recurrent chest pain, exertional dyspnea, and exercise intolerance. He was diagnosed with an acute myocardial infarction and underwent stenting of the left anterior descending artery. During the same hospitalization, transthoracic echocardiography revealed a sinus venosus atrial septal defect (ASD), moderate tricuspid regurgitation, and right heart dilation, raising suspicion for partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage (PAPVD). Further imaging conf

Tetralogy of Fallot often requires transannular patch repair, leading to pulmonary insufficiency. Percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation (PPVI) with self-expandable valves offers a promising alternative, especially for enlarged right ventricular Queryoutflow tracts (RVOT). Five RVOT types identified in patients with Tetralogy of Fallot reflect anatomical variations due to disease and prior surgeries. This study assesses the Pulsta THV® valve's in vitro hemodynamic performance across these RVOT morphologies using 3D-printed models. Five RVOT morphologies were recreated as 3D models from pati

RATIONALE: Anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) syndrome, also known as Bland-White-Garland syndrome, is a rare congenital heart defect predominantly diagnosed in infants and associated with high early mortality rates without surgical intervention. While ALCAPA generally presents alone, it can sometimes occur alongside other congenital anomalies, such as a bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), a combination scarcely documented in the literature. This case report explores a rare presentation of ALCAPA syndrome in a 27-year-old adult with concurrent BAV.
PATIENT CONCERNS: Th

Homografts conduits has been the gold standard for right ventricle to pulmonary artery (RV-PA) conduit. Several different types of xenograft valved conduits have been used as an alternative to homografts, due to their limited availability. In this single center, retrospective study, we analyzed the outcomes of patients with bovine jugular vein conduit (Contegra) and porcine valved conduit (Biointegral) in terms of survival and reintervention rate. Between 2012 and 2023, 44 children underwent surgical repair with RV-PA conduits using Contegra (n = 20) or Biointegral (n = 24). Patients with trun

Heterotaxy syndrome is a congenital condition characterized by abnormal left-right axis patterning of thoracoabdominal organs, frequently accompanied by complex congenital heart disease and extracardiac anomalies. The condition demonstrates considerable phenotypic variability, posing diagnostic and management challenges. We report three pediatric cases of heterotaxy syndrome classified by atrial isomerism: two with left atrial isomerism (LAI) and one with right atrial isomerism (RAI). The first case involved a 22-month-old male with LAI and polysplenia who presented with a transitional atriove

Absent pulmonary valve (APV) syndrome is an uncommon congenital cardiac anomaly most frequently associated with tetralogy of Fallot, representing only 3% of such cases. Its occurrence with transposition of the great arteries (TGA) is exceptionally rare, and the presence of coexisting aortic valve stenosis adds significant hemodynamic complexity. We describe a term neonate who presented immediately after birth with severe cyanosis and desaturation, requiring intubation and prostaglandin E₁ infusion. Chest radiography demonstrated marked cardiomegaly, while echocardiography confirmed TGA with a

We report an alternative to nephrectomy for managing renal arteriovenous fistula (R-AVF) in patients with severe pulmonary hypertension and high-risk anaesthetic profiles. A man in his 70s, with right heart dysfunction and severe pulmonary hypertension, secondary to a left R-AVF, was deemed unsuitable for nephrectomy due to high anaesthetic risk. Instead, he underwent percutaneous transarterial embolisation, leading to significant renal function improvement and complete resolution of pulmonary hypertension on radiological imaging and clinical assessment. This is the first clinically and radiol

BACKGROUND: The Fontan procedure (FP) is a surgical palliation diverting blood flow from the caval veins to the pulmonary artery. The FP is used in several congenital heart diseases (CHDs), for instance in the absence of a heart valve and/or in the presence of an abnormality of a heart chamber. Since little information is available on the cardiac mechanics of FP-operated patients, the present study aimed to determine three-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (3DSTE)-derived basal and apical left ventricular (LV) rotations in adult patients with CHD mainly affecting the right heart la

In individuals with a single ventricle undergoing evaluation before Fontan surgery, the presence of excessive pulmonary blood flow can contribute to increased pulmonary artery pressure, notably in those who had a Glenn procedure with antegrade pulmonary flow. 28 patients who had previously undergone Glenn anastomosis with antegrade pulmonary blood flow (APBF) and with elevated mean pulmonary artery (mPAP) pressure > 15 mmHg in diagnostic catheter angiography were included in the study. After addressing other anatomical factors that could affect pulmonary artery pressure, APBF was occluded with

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Surgical correction of pulmonary artery stenosis (PAS) is essential to the prognosis of patients with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The double-patch method of pulmonary arterioplasty is usually applied in case of multiple stenosis in TOF patients' pulmonary artery (PA) and when PAS cannot be relieved by the single-patch method. The surgical planning for the double-patch design remains challenging. The purpose of this study is to investigate the double-patch design with different angulations between the left pulmonary artery (LPA) and the right pulmonary artery (RPA), and

Pulmonary sequestration (PS) is a rare congenital anomaly that accounts for 1% to 6% of all pulmonary malformations at birth. It is characterized by a focal area of pulmonary tissue that does not have direct communication with the tracheobronchial tree and does not get blood supply from the pulmonary circulation. We present the case of a 28-year-old female with a history of recurrent pulmonary infections who was found to have intralobar sequestration and underwent curative surgical excision. Because pulmonary sequestration is commonly misdiagnosed, as it can mimic other conditions on chest X-r
