Duplicated superior vena cava in a patient with tetralogy of Fallot: A rare vascular anomaly.

Duplicated superior vena cava (SVC) is a congenital vascular anomaly that is typically asymptomatic and is diagnosed incidentally upon imaging. We describe the case of a 28-year-old man with a background of achondroplasia, treated pulmonary tuberculosis, and chronic smoking and cannabis use, presenting with acute exacerbation of exertional dyspnea. Cyanosis and hypoxemia were evident on clinical examination (SpO₂ 65% on 15 L/min oxygen), and imaging revealed apical sequelae, ventricular septal defect (VSD), and pulmonary hypertension. A computed tomography pulmonary angiogram (CTPA) excluded e

Interrupted Inferior Caval Vein in the Era of High Prenatal Detection Highlighting Postnatal Computed Tomographic Findings in Those Without Complex Cardiac Malformations.

We reviewed those diagnosed pre- and postnatally with interrupted inferior caval vein (IICV), emphasizing the computed tomographic (CT) findings in those without complex cardiac malformations. We identified cases of IIVC diagnosed between January 2013 and December 2024. We defined non-complex cardiac malformations as secundum atrial communications with or without catheter intervention or surgery, mild semilunar valve stenosis, or a patent ductus arteriosus with or without catheter intervention or surgery. We identified 51 cases of IIVC, of which 49 had prenatal care. Of the 49 with prenatal ca

Successful Percutaneous Treatment of Stenosed Mustard Atrial Switch Associated With Superior Vena Cava Baffle Thrombi.

Baffle stenosis and thrombus formation are recognized complications of atrial switch operation (ASO), with no concurrent cases documented. A 23-year-old man with dextro-transposition of the great arteries who had previously undergone Mustard ASO presented with progressive dyspnea, peripheral edema, and abdominal distension. Cardiac computed tomography (CT) showed severe bicaval baffle stenosis and 2 superior vena cava baffle thrombi, one occluding the stenosed segment. Mechanical thrombus fragmentation, systemic thrombolysis, and sequential stent implantation in both baffles achieved complete

MYH6 in Congenital Heart Defects: A Genotype-Phenotype Characterization in a French Cohort.

Congenital heart defects (CHD) are among the most frequent congenital anomalies and represent a significant source of morbidity and mortality in infants. Both genetic and environmental factors are involved, and variants in the MYH6 are potential major genetic factors. The objective of the present study was to describe cardiac phenotypes in individuals with CHD and MYH6 variants. We included individuals with CHD and a MYH6 variant identified in four French genetics laboratories. Clinical and family data were collected. Of the 29 individuals included, 20 (68.9%) had a principal phenotype of left

Rare Anomalous Left Brachiocephalic Venous Drainage Affecting Pacemaker Placement.

An 88-year-old man with severe aortic stenosis and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation presented for elective dual chamber pacemaker implantation. During the procedure, an aberrant venous system was discovered. The left brachiocephalic vein was cannulated, but attempts to advance the guidewire failed due with an accessory hemiazygos vein draining into the azygous vein. Described anomalies in upper body venous return include persistent left superior vena cava (SVC), interruption of the SVC, and anomalous course of the brachiocephalic veins. This anomaly has been described twice in the literature. Co

Transcatheter Management of Coronary Sinus Atrial Septal Defect in L-Transposition of the Great Arteries.

BACKGROUND: Coronary sinus atrial septal defects (CS-ASDs) have seldom been described in patients with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries. When present, CS-ASDs typically present similarly to other atrial septal defects with left-to-right shunting and right-sided dilation. CASE SUMMARY: We describe the first reported case of hypoxemia because of a CS-ASD in a patient with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries, managed percutaneously by deployment of a covered stent and embolization with a vascular plug of a persistent left superior vena cava draini

A Rare Case of Severe Pulmonary Embolism Complicated by the Rupture of a Pancreaticoduodenal Artery Aneurysm Due to Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome and Left-sided Inferior Vena Cava.

A 70-year-old man with a history of left-sided renal donation surgery 11 days earlier developed rupture of a pancreaticoduodenal artery (PDA) aneurysm caused by median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS). The patient also had a congenital anomaly and left-sided inferior vena cava (IVC). Surgical hemostasis was performed; however, the patient developed a massive pulmonary embolism on day 4 of hospitalization. Chest contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed compression of the IVC by the abdominal aorta and a hematoma resulting from aneurysm rupture, which was considered the source of deep vein

A rare case of inferior vena cava interruption and pulmonary valve stenosis in the absence of heterotaxy syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: The complete absence hepatic portion of the inferior vena cava (IVC) is known as "interruption" of the IVC. Congenital interruption of the IVC can rarely occur in patients with a normal visceroatrial situs. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of an 8-year-old male child who exhibited mild dyspnea. Further evaluation revealed an interruption of the IVC and pulmonary valve stenosis, without heterotaxy. DISCUSSION: It is important to recognize that interruption of the IVC can occur independently or as part of a syndrome. Therefore, thorough investigations should be conducted for

Unexpected Severe Cyanosis Following Ventricular Septal Defect Closure and Repair of Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction.

Ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a common congenital heart defect that often requires surgical closure. We present the case of a seven-month-old infant with a large perimembranous VSD, moderate pulmonary valve stenosis, and hypertrophied right ventricular muscle bundles who failed to wean from cardiopulmonary bypass due to severe cyanosis after VSD closure and muscle bundle resection. An intraoperative transesophageal echocardiogram was performed with an agitated saline test, and a large atrial-level right-to-left shunt was seen. Return to cardiopulmonary bypass revealed an unroofed coronary

Cardiovascular Manifestations and Interventions in Children Living in a Histoplasmosis Endemic Region.

Histoplasmosis in children remains understudied, drawing most clinical understanding from adult populations. Located in a histoplasmosis-hyperendemic region, our institution aimed to characterize the cardiovascular manifestations and interventional treatments in children diagnosed with histoplasmosis. We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 160 patients under 18 years of age diagnosed with histoplasmosis between January 2009 and March 2023 at a tertiary-care children's hospital. Data reviewed included clinical presentation, imaging, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and catheter-based

Rodent Inferior Vena Cava Venoplasty Balloon Model.

Balloon venoplasty is a commonly used clinical technique to treat deep vein stenosis and occlusion as a consequence of trauma, congenital anatomic abnormalities, acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or stenting. Chronic deep venous obstruction is histopathologically characterized by thrombosis, fibrosis, or both. Currently, no direct treatment is available to target these pathological processes. Therefore, a reliable in vivo animal model to test novel interventions is necessary. The rodent survival inferior vena cava (IVC) venoplasty balloon model (VBM) allows the study of balloon venoplasty in n
