INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: There are many ways to manage laryngocele, including external approach and endoscopic approach. The endolaryngeal technique has gained popularity and many of the authors reviewed have begun to use this technique for the treatment of internal laryngoceles duo to the advent of microlaryngoscopic surgery and the CO2 laser during the last two decades. In this article, we describe the management of a large congenital laryngocele with temperature-controlled plasma technique (coblation) aid on endoscopy and along with review of literature.

Laryngocele is defined as the abnormal dilatation of the laryngeal saccule by air, and when it becomes infected, it is termed a laryngopyocele. Laryngopyoceles can present acutely with airway compromise and swallowing difficulties, along with other symptoms such as hoarseness and neck pain. A 78-year-old male with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease presented with a progressively enlarging left-sided neck swelling over 30 years, recently associated with hoarseness, dysphagia, and respiratory distress. Examination and imaging confirmed a mixed laryngopyocele causing significant a

Laryngoceles are rare, benign dilations of the laryngeal saccule that may present with a wide range of symptoms or remain asymptomatic, making their diagnosis challenging. We present the case of a 24-year-old male soldier, a chronic smoker with a history of persistent cough, who presented with a painless, progressively enlarging swelling on the left side of his neck that increased with straining. He reported no dysphagia, dyspnea, or hoarseness, and both systemic and ENT examinations were unremarkable. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) of the neck confirmed the diagnosis of an infec

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between laryngeal aerodynamics, acoustics, and hypernasality in children with cleft palate with or without lip (CP ± L).
METHOD: This study used a prospectively performed cross-sectional design. Fifty-six children between the ages of 6 and 17 years with CP ± L participated (Mage= 11.7, SD = 3.4; male = 32, female = 24). Children were separated into four groups based on auditory-perceptual ratings of hypernasality made using the Cleft Audit Protocol for Speech-Augmented-Americleft Modification protocol. RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: The thyroid foramen (TF) is a congenital anatomical variant of the thyroid cartilage, characterized by a small opening that may transmit neurovascular structures. Although benign, TF can be misinterpreted on imaging as a cartilage fracture or tumor invasion, and may pose a surgical risk if unrecognized. Despite these potential implications, TF remains under-recognized in routine radiological practice. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and morphological characteristics of TF using CT.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 300 noncontrast, thin-s

Background/Objectives: Congenital laryngomalacia (LM) is the most common cause of stridor in infants, presenting with a clinical spectrum that ranges from benign, self-limiting symptoms to severe airway obstruction. This study aimed to objectively characterize the type and severity of sleep-disordered breathing in infants with LM using polysomnography (PSG) and to correlate findings with LM subtypes, clinical presentation, and type of surgical intervention. Methods: A cohort of 42 infants diagnosed with LM (Type I: n = 14, Type II: n = 18, Type III: n = 10) underwent overnight PSG before surgi

OBJECTIVE: Posterior laryngeal stenosis is a vexing problem despite efforts at early tracheostomy in those intubated on ventilatory support. Treatment in advanced cases relies on permanent tracheostomy or irreversible arytenoidectomy/cordectomy, which are compromises between voice, swallowing, and airway. While having intact laryngeal neuromuscular function, there is immobility of the vocal cord due to scarring and ankylosis of the cricoarytenoid joint. In this proof of concept study, we explore the feasibility of repairing cricoarytenoid joint function with joint replacement in the fresh cada

OBJECTIVE: There is currently a paucity of literature detailing the socioeconomic implications on management and outcomes of pediatric subglottic stenosis. Through this study, we sought to ascertain whether disparities of social determinants of health did have a discernible impact on management of subglottic stenosis through endoscopic versus open procedures and whether there would be a difference in outcomes.
STUDY DESIGN: The study is a multi- institutional, academic center, retrospective case series.
METHODS: The study examines pediatric patients under the age of 18 evaluated by Ochsner-a

Liposarcomas of the larynx are an extremely rare occurrence. Though they are malignant, their presentation in the larynx may mimic benign conditions; therefore, diagnosis requires histologic evaluation. Our case represents the second known case of laryngeal well-differentiated spindle cell liposarcoma. The patient, a 74-year-old man, presented with dysphagia for two months with a history of a benign laryngeal lesion removed many years prior at another facility. His examination and operative evaluation were initially consistent with a recurrent internal laryngocele, but after pathologic evaluat

OBJECTIVE: Speech-swallow dissociation (SSD) in velopharyngeal closure on laryngoscopy is a sign of pseudobulbar palsy. We hypothesized that this finding could differentiate amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) from myasthenia gravis (MG). This study aimed to identify laryngoscopic findings useful in differentiating these two diseases.
METHODS: ALS and MG patients with bulbar symptoms who underwent fiberoptic laryngoscopy in our hospital were retrospectively examined. The following laryngoscopic items were evaluated: velopharyngeal incompetence (VPI) in phonation and swallowing, pharyngeal con

OBJECTIVES: While approximately 50 % of patients with Type 1 laryngeal cleft (LC) will tolerate thin liquids with medical management, predictive factors for success remain unclear. This study aims to identify patient characteristics that predict successful non-operative management. We hypothesize that pulmonary comorbidities and severe aspiration will decrease success with medical management.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study examined patients with aspiration on VFSS and Type 1 laryngeal cleft between January 2012 and March 2024 at a quaternary pediatric hospital. The primary outcome w

BACKGROUND: Laryngeal ultrasound (LUS) is a noninvasive, painless, and radiation-free imaging method that presents a promising alternative, especially for the dynamic assessment of laryngeal structures. It can also be utilized by general practitioners. This study assesses the diagnostic accuracy, patient comfort, and cost-effectiveness of LUS compared to flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy (FFL) for diagnosing laryngomalacia in infants aged ≤ 2 years with stridor-specific airway issues.
METHODS: A total of 43 infants presented with inspiratory stridor or other airway symptoms and underwent asses
