Laryngoceles are rare pathological air-filled dilatations of the laryngeal saccule. Rarely, laryngoceles can become infected and pus-filled, forming laryngopyoceles. If untreated, they can lead to life-threatening complications including airway obstruction and deep neck space sepsis. The generally accepted management of laryngopyoceles is surgical, but there are no consensus guidelines available. We present two cases of elderly patients (89- and 90-year-old) with laryngopyoceles who were successfully managed with endoscopic laryngeal surgery. Both presented with worsening airway symptoms on th

We studied the malaria transmission dynamics in Kassena Nankana district (KND), a site in northern Ghana proposed for testing malaria vaccines. Intensive mosquito sampling for 1 year using human landing catches in three micro-ecological sites (irrigated, lowland and rocky highland) yielded 18 228 mosquitoes. Anopheles gambiae s.l. and Anopheles funestus constituted 94.3% of the total collection with 76.8% captured from the irrigated communities. Other species collected but in relatively few numbers were Anopheles pharoensis (5.4%) and Anopheles rufipes (0.3%). Molecular analysis of 728 An. gam

A pyolaryngocele is a rare, potentially life-threatening complication of laryngocele, resulting from secondary infection and obstruction of the saccular neck. Clinical severity ranges from mild dysphonia to acute airway compromise. We report a 51-year-old man with a sore throat, dysphagia, and dyspnea. Flexible laryngoscopy and contrast-enhanced CT revealed an internal pyolaryngocele. After emergency tracheostomy and intravenous antibiotics, the patient underwent CO2 laser microlaryngoscopic excision and marsupialization. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, with complete healing and no recu

Wind instrument performance requires sustained and repetitive increases in intrathoracic and pharyngeal pressures, which may lead to rare but clinically relevant anatomical alterations of the upper aerodigestive tract. We report the case of a 46-year-old male semi-professional wind instrument player who developed massive hypopharyngeal dilatation and cervical lung herniation as a consequence of long-term, high-pressure musical activity. Dynamic imaging performed during instrument playing demonstrated marked hypopharyngeal expansion and herniation of the lung apices into the cervical region, hi

Emphysematous infections in the tonsillopharyngeal area are exceptionally unique; this type of infection occurs in immunocompromised patients. Extramedullary disease can occur in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), but oropharyngeal involvement is rare and diagnostically challenging. Furthermore, a laryngocele is defined as an abnormal dilation of the laryngeal saccule that is filled with air and fluid if infected. Although infections and cancers rarely extend to the laryngocele, they can be found in patients with laryngeal or hypopharyngeal cancer. We describe a 65-year-old male presenting with pro

Laryngoceles are rare benign dilatations of the laryngeal saccule that communicate with the laryngeal lumen and may present with variable clinical manifestations depending on their size and extent. Their presentation can range from incidental findings to clinically significant cervical masses or airway-related symptoms. The authors report a case of an unusually large mixed laryngocele in a 62-year-old male who presented with progressive right-sided cervical swelling, dysphagia, and throat discomfort. Computed tomography revealed a well-defined air-filled lesion arising from the laryngeal ventr

AIMS: This study, conducted on singers consulting at a phoniatric outpatient clinic, aims to investigate whether the relationship between subglottal pressure and vocal intensity varies depending on the type of vocal pathology.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted using the medical files, acoustic, and aerodynamic assessments of 134 singing patients at a University Hospital in France. The assessments included measurements of vocal intensity and estimated subglottal pressure during singing at different pitches and loudness.
RESULTS: A significant difference was observed in

Congenital neck anomalies in neonates often present diagnostic dilemmas, particularly when they communicate with the aerodigestive tract. This report describes a rare case of a large, compressive neck cyst in a 28-day-old neonate. Initially presenting as a progressively enlarging cervical mass, the lesion's potential for airway communication was identified by the presence of intralesional air-fluid levels on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Advanced diagnostic techniques, including virtual bronchoscopy and intraoperative laryngoscopy, were utilized to successfully localize a

The authors present a case of a combined laryngocele that manifested as acute upper airway obstruction requiring tracheostomy. The initial clinical presentation and imaging were suggestive of a laryngeal neoplasm; however, a combined laryngocele was subsequently diagnosed.A complete transoral resection of the laryngocele was performed using a CO₂ LASER. The postoperative course was uneventful, allowing for tracheostomy closure and no recurrence was observed during the follow-up period.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: There are many ways to manage laryngocele, including external approach and endoscopic approach. The endolaryngeal technique has gained popularity and many of the authors reviewed have begun to use this technique for the treatment of internal laryngoceles duo to the advent of microlaryngoscopic surgery and the CO2 laser during the last two decades. In this article, we describe the management of a large congenital laryngocele with temperature-controlled plasma technique (coblation) aid on endoscopy and along with review of literature.

Laryngocele is defined as the abnormal dilatation of the laryngeal saccule by air, and when it becomes infected, it is termed a laryngopyocele. Laryngopyoceles can present acutely with airway compromise and swallowing difficulties, along with other symptoms such as hoarseness and neck pain. A 78-year-old male with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease presented with a progressively enlarging left-sided neck swelling over 30 years, recently associated with hoarseness, dysphagia, and respiratory distress. Examination and imaging confirmed a mixed laryngopyocele causing significant a

Laryngoceles are rare, benign dilations of the laryngeal saccule that may present with a wide range of symptoms or remain asymptomatic, making their diagnosis challenging. We present the case of a 24-year-old male soldier, a chronic smoker with a history of persistent cough, who presented with a painless, progressively enlarging swelling on the left side of his neck that increased with straining. He reported no dysphagia, dyspnea, or hoarseness, and both systemic and ENT examinations were unremarkable. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) of the neck confirmed the diagnosis of an infec

Liposarcomas of the larynx are an extremely rare occurrence. Though they are malignant, their presentation in the larynx may mimic benign conditions; therefore, diagnosis requires histologic evaluation. Our case represents the second known case of laryngeal well-differentiated spindle cell liposarcoma. The patient, a 74-year-old man, presented with dysphagia for two months with a history of a benign laryngeal lesion removed many years prior at another facility. His examination and operative evaluation were initially consistent with a recurrent internal laryngocele, but after pathologic evaluat

Laryngocele, a dilation of the laryngeal saccule, is an uncommon and benign air-filled lesion that expands upwards into the ventricle of Morgagni. A unilateral growth within the larynx that is in communication with the laryngeal lumen typically signals its presence. The exact cause of the disorder remains uncertain, although there are three main theories which suggest congenital reasons, increased pressure in the larynx, or mechanical obstruction of the ventricle of Morgagni. The classification for laryngoceles is based upon their location with respect to the thyrohyoid membrane, and they may
