PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review highlights the phenotypic features that lead to the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis in adults, and the prognosis of these patients.

Pulmonary bronchogenic cyst in adults is rare and the typical appearance is a sharply circumscribed, round or oval nodule or mass, usually in the medial third of the lungs. Bronchial polyps are rare histopathologically distinct nonneoplastic endobronchial lesions and are classified as multiple papillomas, solitary papillomas, and inflammatory polyps. Baclofen is a lipophilic analogue of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter in central nervous system. The aim of the study was to evaluate some clinical aspects of acute intoxication with baclofen. Fifty two patients (37 females and 15 males) aged from 14 to 58 (mean 30.6 +/- 13.7) years were analyzed. We report an autopsy case of an 11-year-old girl who suffered mechanical asphyxia from falling off the metal bars in the playground. This autopsy case is interesting because of the atypical trauma and lesions. To our knowledge there has been no similiar published case reports in the forensic literature. The young age of the victim, the setting and the pattern of the injuries are rare in a fall at playground by a child.

This study evaluated the feasibility and accuracy of the magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) evaluation of scimitar syndrome in early infancy in 4 subjects. MRA imaging was successful, with excellent imaging quality to evaluate the main and lobar pulmonary artery branches, lobar pulmonary veins, scimitar vein, and systemic-pulmonary collateral arteries in all subjects. Emphysema is one of the major pathological abnormalities associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The protease/antiprotease imbalance and inflammation resulting from oxidative stress have been attributed to the pathogenesis of emphysema. We report a case of a 29 year old male who at age 25, developed a pulmonary abscess in the left lower lobe. A left lower lobectomy was performed following two recurrences on antibiotic treatment. The result of histopathological examination confirmed congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM), a congenital disease characterized by multiple cysts resulting from adenomatous hyperplasia of the bronchial epithelia. In many cases, respiratory distress occurs during the neonatal period, and in about 80-85% of patients, CCAM is diagnosed before the age of two years due to respiratory infection.

We report 2 cases of congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM) detected by prenatal sonography. The first CCAM was diagnosed by fetal sonography in a female fetus at 30 weeks' gestation.
