Ciliated foregut cyst of the pancreas mimicking a cystic neoplasm.

Pancreatic cystic lesions are being identified more frequently with widespread use of cross-sectional imaging. While most pancreatic cysts are mucinous neoplasms or pseudocysts, congenital cysts of foregut origin are exceptionally rare in this location, with these being commonly found in the mediastinum. Their occurrence in the hepatobiliary system is rare, and pancreatic involvement is even rarer. Fewer than 20 cases have been reported in literature since it was first described in the 1990s. Ciliated foregut cysts arise from abnormal development of the primitive foregut and, histologically, a

An auditable pipeline for fuzzy full-text screening in systematic reviews: integrating contrastive semantic highlighting and LLM judgment.

Full-text screening is the major bottleneck of systematic reviews (SRs), particularly in domains such as population health modelling of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), where decisive eligibility information is scattered across long and heterogeneous full texts. In this methodological study, we introduce a scalable and auditable pipeline that reframes inclusion and exclusion as a fuzzy decision process. We evaluate the approach within the Population Health Modelling Consensus Reporting Network (POPCORN) and benchmark it against statistical and crisp baselines. Articles are parsed into overlapp

Case Report: Bronchogenic cysts with pericardial hypoplasia are directly supplied by the descending aorta.

Bronchogenic cysts (BCs) are a type of congenital mediastinal tumor. This article reports a case that a BC associated with pericardial hypoplasia receives direct arterial supply from the descending aorta, forming a structure resembling pulmonary sequestration. A 17-year-old female was accidentally discovered to have a mediastinal cyst during a routine physical examination. The patient was asymptomatic. Computed tomography (CT) imaging revealed that there was a thick blood vessel on the surface of the cyst, which directly connected to the descending aorta. Following comprehensive preoperative v

Beyond rhythm disorder: a rare case report of a young patient with mediastinal bronchogenic cyst.

BACKGROUND: Mediastinal bronchogenic cysts are sporadic congenital tumors, accounting for approximately 10%-15% of all mediastinal masses. In most cases, they remain asymptomatic. We present a case of a young man with new-onset atrial fibrillation caused by extra cardiac compression of the left atrium by mediastinal bronchogenic cyst. We report the first documented case in our country of a patient with a mediastinal bronchogenic cyst presenting with cardiac symptoms. CASE SUMMARY: A 39-year-old man was admitted to the emergency department with palpitations, dyspnea, and tachycardia that devel

Pericardial Cyst at the Left Cardiophrenic Angle Mimicking Localized Effusion: A Diagnostic Dilemma.

Pericardial cysts are rare, benign, congenital anomalies of the pericardium, usually located within the right cardiophrenic space, often discovered incidentally during imaging performed for unrelated reasons. They usually do not cause symptoms and are detected by chance. Chest X-ray, echocardiography, and chest computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are useful diagnostic tools. Nevertheless, after safe diagnostic, management options include conservative management with follow-up, percutaneous aspiration of the cyst, and excision of the cyst (direct invasive therapeutic ap

Intralobar pulmonary sequestration with bronchogenic cyst: a case report.

Intralobar pulmonary sequestration (ILS) with concurrent bronchogenic cyst represents a rare congenital malformation often diagnosed incidentally. We present a 48-year-old asymptomatic female whose routine Computed Tomography (CT) revealed a left lower lobe mass with aberrant systemic arterial supply (thoracic aortic branch) and a separate mediastinal cyst. Thoracoscopic resection confirmed ILS (48.11 mm × 37.45 mm solid-cystic lesion with vascular anomalies) and bronchogenic cyst (27.91mm × 24.16 mm). This case demonstrates three critical findings: (i) Contrast-enhanced CT with vascular recon

Open Cyst Drainage for Reliable Decompression in a Critically Ill Neonate with Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation.

INTRODUCTION: Congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) is a rare congenital lung lesion that is often diagnosed prenatally. Large macrocystic lesions can cause severe respiratory compromise after birth, requiring urgent decompression. Although staged management with cyst drainage followed by delayed resection has been reported, the optimal method for achieving reliable decompression in critically unstable neonates remains unclear. We report a case in which emergency open cyst drainage under direct visualization enabled secure catheter placement and reliable decompression before definiti

Mediastinal thyroglossal duct cyst after thyroidectomy mimicking recurrent thyroid disease: a case report.

Thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDCs) are common congenital midline neck lesions, but mediastinal extension in adults is exceptional and may mimic recurrent thyroid disease after thyroidectomy. We report a 55-year-old woman with dysphagia and exertional dyspnoea one year after near-total thyroidectomy for benign multinodular hyperplasia. Computed tomography demonstrated a 76-mm heterogeneous cervico-mediastinal mass extending to the aortic arch with tracheal displacement. Scintigraphy showed no uptake, and fine-needle aspiration revealed squamous epithelial elements with atypia, creating concern for

Presumed Infected Bronchogenic Cyst Presenting as Acute Pericarditis: A Case Report.

Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital anomalies arising from abnormal budding of the ventral foregut during early embryogenesis. They are typically located in the mediastinum or pulmonary parenchyma and are mostly asymptomatic. However, complications such as infection, compression, hemorrhage, or rupture may cause significant morbidity. Surgical resection is recommended in symptomatic or complicated cysts and may also be justified in asymptomatic patients to prevent future complications. We report the case of a 40-year-old male who presented with chest pain and dysphagia. A presumptive diagno

One of the Largest Reported Ciliated Foregut Cysts of the Gallbladder Mimicking a Gallbladder Diverticulum.

Ciliated foregut cysts are rare congenital lesions derived from abnormal budding of the primitive foregut and are most commonly identified in the mediastinum or liver, where they may also be referred to as bronchogenic-type cysts. Occurrence within the gallbladder is extremely uncommon, with only a limited number of cases reported in the literature. We present the case of a 29-year-old male who presented with right upper quadrant abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Computed tomography and ultrasound revealed a cystic lesion adjacent to the gallbladder that was initially interpreted radiologi

A giant pericardial cyst as rare cause of reflux and chest discomfort: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Pericardial cysts are a rare form of congenital mediastinal cystic lesion. They are usually asymptomatic and are often discovered incidentally, although some patients may present with a variety of different symptoms. The presence of small, asymptomatic pericardial cysts does not need treatment; however, large and/or symptomatic cysts may require surgical intervention. CASE SUMMARY: We report a case of a 42-year-old man with a 7-year history of dysphagia and non-specific thoracic complaints. A Rare Case of an Abdominal Pedunculated Bronchogenic Cyst.

Bronchogenic cysts (BC) are rare congenital malformations that result from abnormal budding of the primitive foregut. Most of these cysts are located in the mediastinum or the lungs. Rarely, abdominal BCs result from embryonic budding migrating below the diaphragm prior to the fusion of the pleuroperitoneal membranes. We present a case of a 34-year-old male patient undergoing evaluation for bronchopneumopathy. Preoperative imaging revealed a well-circumscribed cystic lesion adjacent to the colon, which failed to provide a definitive diagnosis due to its atypical location and nonspecific radiol

Bronchogenic Cyst at the Terminal Ileum Presenting as an Enteric Duplication: A Case Report.

Bronchogenic cysts are congenital foregut malformations most often found in the mediastinum or lung parenchyma. Abdominal locations are exceedingly rare and most commonly found in the left retroperitoneum. They may mimic other intra-abdominal masses and pose a preoperative diagnostic challenge. A 17-year-old female presented with 4 days of diffuse, mild abdominal pain. Ultrasound and MRI identified a 5.5 × 3.8 × 3.1 cm unilocular, hypoechoic cyst adjacent to the terminal ileum at the ileocecal valve. Preoperative differential diagnoses included an ileal duplication cyst. Single-incision laparo

Intrapulmonary Bronchogenic Cyst Adjacent to the Inferior Pulmonary Ligament Mimicking a Paraesophageal Mediastinal Cyst: A Case Report.

Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital foregut malformations that most commonly arise in the mediastinum. Intrapulmonary bronchogenic cysts are less frequent and may present diagnostic challenges when located adjacent to mediastinal structures. We report a case of an intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst that closely mimicked a paraesophageal mediastinal cyst on preoperative imaging. A 72-year-old man was referred to our department after a cystic lesion was incidentally detected during a routine health examination. CT demonstrated a 37-mm well-circumscribed cystic lesion in the right lower thorax.

Giant pericardial cyst with coronary artery involvement: a rare case of progressive right heart compression in an infant.

Pericardial cysts are rare, benign congenital cardiovascular malformations that account for approximately 7% of mediastinal masses. Epicardial cysts attached to the cardiac surface with intimate coronary artery involvement are even rarer and pose significant diagnostic and surgical challenges. This case highlights a giant pericardial cyst with intimate right coronary artery involvement in a 10-month-old infant, where subtotal resection was necessary to preserve coronary integrity. A 10-month-old male infant with a pericardial cyst initially detected at 27 weeks of gestation presented with prog
