Cholecystopexy and Pericardial Pseudocyst Removal in a Dog with a Congenital Peritoneopericardial Diaphragmatic Hernia.

A 4 mo old spayed female golden retriever was presented with a peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia (PPDH) that was diagnosed during neutering. Echocardiography revealed a fluid-filled structure and parts of the liver in the pericardial cavity. Computed tomography confirmed the existence of the PPDH and the herniation of the right medial liver lobe and the gallbladder. Cystic masses were observed in the pericardial and the peritoneal cavities, possibly communicating through the PPDH. A median laparotomy revealed a single lobulated cystic lesion extending into both the pericardial and peri

[Perirenal cystic lymphangioma in an adult: a case report and literature review].

Lymphangioma is a rare, benign mesenchymal neoplasm, which is characterized by numerous intercommunicating cystic spaces containing lymphatic fluid. It is considered a congenital disease resulting from the obstruction of regional lymph drainage during the developmental period. Lymphangioma frequently occurs in the cervical neck and axilla, also in the retroperitoneum, mediastinum, mesentery, omentum, colon, and pelvis, rarely in the perirenal space. These tumors usually present in childhood, but infrequently, these also present in adults. Patients often complain of hematuria, flank pain, or ab

Congenital Abnormalities of the Pericardium.

Congenital abnormalities of the pericardium are a rare group of disorders that include congenital absence of the pericardium, pericardial cysts, and diverticula. These congenital defects result from alterations in the embryologic formation and structure of the pericardium. Although many cases are incidentally found, they can present as symptomatic, life-threatening disease. Owing to their rarity, many cases are inappropriately diagnosed. Alterations in the embryologic formation and structure may result in the formation of these congenital abnormalities. We review the presentation, diagnosis, a

Neurenteric cyst at the dorsal craniocervical junction in a child: Case report.

Neurenteric cysts, also known as enterogenous cysts, are uncommon, benign, congenital lesions that usually occur in the posterior mediastinum but can be seen at any level of the neuraxis. Here, we report a pediatric patient with a neurenteric cyst in the dorsal craniocervical junction as the only third reported pediatric case in the literature in this rare location, and describe the clinical course and pathologic findings with a review of the literature on this rare entity.

Esophageal duplication cyst with hemivertebrae: A case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Esophageal duplication cysts (EDCs) are rare congenital anomalies that can be associated with symptomatic spinal abnormalities, but presentations due to EDC symptoms are rarely found in the presence of spinal abnormalities. CASE SUMMARY: A 6-month-old infant weighing approximately 5.0 kg presented with a 2-month pulmonary infection and more recent difficulty swallowing and nutritional intolerance that did not improve with medical treatment. Contrast-enhanced chest computed tomography showed a well-defined, mediastinal, homogeneous, low-density cystic mass of 11.9 × 5.5 × 5.1 cm, c

Minimally invasive, multi-disciplinary approach for surgical management of a mediastinal congenital bronchogenic cyst in a 6-month-old infant.

We present a case of prenatal diagnosis of a mediastinal cyst by ultrasound, confirmed during infancy through computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A 6-month-old male infant was admitted to the hospital. A mid-mediastinal cyst was detected through a province-wide fetal ultrasonography screening program. During the infancy stage, the CT scan and the MRI confirmed the finding of a mediastinal cyst. Based on the findings on prenatal ultrasonography and postnatal imaging studies (CT, MRI), a benign mediastinal cyst was suspected. The cyst was below the tracheal carina, and

Foregut duplication cyst: a novel computed tomography finding mimicking a small bowel hernia: A case report.

RATIONALE: A foregut duplication cyst (FDC) is an uncommon congenital disease. This report presents a case of mediastinal foregut duplication cyst that mimicked a diaphragmatic small bowel hernia. PATIENT CONCERN: A 27-month-old girl was first referred for a mediastinal lesion found incidentally on a chest radiograph. At that time, our impression was cystic lung lesion such as congenital pulmonary airway malformation or pulmonary sequestration. At the age 6 years, she presented with recurrent vomiting. The physical examination and laboratory studies were within normal limits. DIAGNOSES: Ches

An atypical presentation of a pericardial cyst.

A pericardial cyst is a benign and rare congenital anomaly. The presentation of pericardial cysts varies with the extent of mediastinal involvement. Complaints can include dyspnea, pleuritic chest pain and systemic symptoms; however, the majority are asymptomatic. Imaging modalities such as MRI, CT and X-ray can visualize the cysts. Treatment approach includes aspiration or surgical resection. We describe an atypical presentation of a pericardial cyst and subsequent treatment and recommendations for these rare anomalies.

[True thymic hyperplasia : Differential diagnosis of thymic mass lesions in neonates and children].

Reactive and neoplastic thymic pathologies are the main considerations in the case of masses in the anterior and middle part of the mediastinum, while neurogenic tumors are predominant in the posterior mediastinum (which are not dealt with here). In neonates and infants, the commonest pathologies in the anterior mediastinum comprise germ cell tumors (mainly teratomas), congenital thymic cysts and true thymic hyperplasia (TTH). In toddlers, teratomas, yolk sac tumors and cysts predominate. In children over 5 years of age, lymphomas are the commonest mass lesions whereas thymomas and thymic carc

[Intrapulmonary bronchogenic cysts].

INTRODUCTION: Bronchogenic cysts are congenital malformations that are usually located in the mediastinum. Intrapulmonary location is rare. OBSERVATION: Four cases of intrapulmonary bronchogenic cysts are reported in order to discuss their clinical and radiological presentation and their treatment. CONCLUSION: Intrapulmonary bronchogenic cysts diagnostic is often missed. This condition must however be known so as to foresee a resection in order to prevent a potential complication.

Ciliated foregut cyst in the triangle of Calot: the first report.

Ciliated foregut cysts are rare anomalies arising from remnants of aberrant embryological development. Around 100 reports on the presence of these congenital masses in the tracheobronchial tree, mediastinum, liver, pancreas and, rarely, the gallbladder have been described. In this article, the case of a 33-year-old woman, who was operated for a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, is presented. During the dissection of the triangle of Calot, a cystic mass, attached to the common hepatic duct, was discovered incidentally. This cyst was dissected off the hepatic duct, and no communication between both

Oesophageal pseudodiverticulum after foregut duplication cyst excision: Case report and literature review.

Oesophageal pseudodiverticula rarely occur after excision of benign oesophageal neoplasms. While management and outcomes have been reported in the adult leiomyoma literature, sparse data exist on the occurrence and management of pseudodiverticula after foregut duplication cyst excision. We discuss our experience with a paediatric patient and review relevant literature regarding operative techniques and surgical outcomes.

Giant calcific pericardial cyst: certainly unexpected during primary percutaneous coronary intervention.

Pericardial cyst is a rare congenital anomaly that is usually diagnosed during evaluation for right-sided heart failure. We report a 50-year-old man with a primary diagnosis of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction at admission, whose emergent angiography revealed a calcific mass close to right coronary artery. Further analysis of the mass with computed tomography and three-dimensional echocardiography revealed a giant pericardial cyst causing partial obstruction of superior vena cava. Unlike previous cases reported, the patient had no symptoms compatible with right-sided heart failure.

Mediastinal bronchogenic cyst mimicking congenital lobar emphysema.

Bronchogenic cyst (BC) is a rare congenital malformation of the lung. Most patients remain asymptomatic until adulthood while some are symptomatic in the first few years of life. However, symptoms in newborn period are rare. We report a case of a 3-day-old preterm baby with respiratory distress diagnosed as congenital lobar emphysema on chest X-ray. A CT scan revealed a mediastinal cyst causing obstructive lobar emphysema. The cyst was excised and pathological examination was suggestive of BC.
