Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital anomalies arising from an abnormal budding of the primitive foregut or tracheobronchial tree. They are most commonly identified in the mediastinum though they can be found in the lung. Ectopic bronchogenic cysts are uncommon in clinical practice, and even rarer when located in the thyroid gland. We report here two cases of intrathyroidal bronchogenic cysts and discuss the patients' outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: and importance: We report a rare case of unusual initial neurologic presentation of congenital thymic cyst, which generally is asymptomatic and therefore require additional radiological evaluation. The diagnosis, however, is by histological confirmation after surgical excision.
CASE PRESENTATION: Our patient presented with first time status epilepticus from an infected congenital thymic cyst, resulting in acute cerebral edema. Although initially missed, a careful re-evaluation of chest X-ray provided the diagnostic clue of a mediastinal mass effect on cerebral venous drainage. C

A pericardial cyst is a rare and benign cause of a mediastinal mass. They are frequently asymptomatic and are usually incidental findings on imaging. Symptoms may include persistent cough, atypical chest pain, dysphagia, and dyspnea. Diagnosis is usually established with the aid of imaging, including a chest x-ray, a computed tomography (CT) scan, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Therapeutic options include surgical resection or aspiration for large and/or symptomatic cysts, whereas conservative management with routine follow-up is advised for small or asymptomatic cysts. We herein descri

Located in the mediastinum, pericardial cysts are rare and benign congenital abnormalities commonly identified as incidental findings on imaging. However, some patients with abnormally enlarged cysts present with compressive symptoms, which include recurrent infections, tamponade from cardiac compression and respiratory complications. Our report highlights a challenging case of a patient with recurrent respiratory symptoms secondary to phrenic nerve compression. Misdiagnosis over the past decade resulted in ineffective interventions. After clear identification of the cyst compression of the ip

A 31-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for evaluation of a cardiac mass in the right atrium. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging indicated a cystic mass filled with fluid accumulation in the right atrium. The mass was identified as a cardiac cyst and was surgically removed. Pathological examination revealed an extremely rare bronchogenic cyst. Bronchogenic cysts are benign congenital abnormalities of primitive foregut origins that form in the mediastinum during embryonic development. There is unusual clinical dilemmas surrounding the treatment plan for cardiac surgery or biopsy of car

Background Mediastinal cysts are benign lesions that may be seen in adulthood as well as in childhood. Mostly congenital lesions constitute 20 to 32% of lesions located in the mediastinum. The main cystic masses are congenital benign cysts (bronchogenic, esophageal replications, neuroenteric, pericardial and thymic cysts), meningocele, mature cystic teratoma, and lymphangioma. In this study, we aimed to analyze the mediastinal cysts operated in our clinic according to the histopathological type, surgical type, morbidity rates and to contribute to the literature on these rare lesions. INTRODUCTION: mediastinal cysts are rare lesions developed from mediastinal structures. They may be acquired like thoracic duct cysts or lymphangiomas or congenital like the bronchogenic cysts, enteric cysts or celomic cysts. These cysts are rare and may cause diagnostic challenges.
AIM: To assess the major characteristics of these cysts based on a single institution experience.
METHODS: the authors performed a descriptive, retrospective study from January 2009 to March 2020 in a single institution. Cystic lesions taking birth from the mediastinum for which gross features, microscopic featur

A pericardial cyst is one of the rare causes of mediastinal masses. Most of the cases are secondary to congenital incomplete fusion of the pericardial sac. More than two-thirds of the cases are present in the right cardiophrenic angle, and the left cardiophrenic angle is the second most common location. In our study, we illustrated an incidental finding of the pericardial cyst in a patient who presented with nonspecific symptoms and was found to have a left-sided cardiophrenic pericardial cyst, which is only found in about 20% of the cases. A CT scan and echocardiogram confirmed the diagnosis

We report a very rare case of large fetal mediastinal cystic lymphatic malformation (cLM), formerly called lymphangioma, that was managed with prenatal serial thoracocentesis and postnatal sclerotherapy. A fetal pericardial effusion-like lesion gradually increased the size until it occupied more than half of the thoracic cavity. Thoracocentesis was performed three times, namely at 31 and 35 weeks of gestation, and also just before the delivery for decompression. The characteristic shape changes of the lesion were observed after thoracocentesis. A boy delivered by planned cesarian section at te

Diaphragmatic defects involving the right side of the diaphragm are less common but represent a distinct entity. The clinical presentation, management, and prognosis differ significantly from a left-sided defect. We report a case of a term neonate who was diagnosed to have a congenital diaphragmatic hernia during the third trimester of pregnancy, operated at 36 h of life and subsequently found to have an associated mediastinal cyst in 1st week of life.

INTRODUCTION: Bronchogenic cyst (BC) is an uncommon, benign congenital mediastinal tumor. Its progressive course is often asymptomatic, making the diagnosis difficult or fortuitous, unless non-specific respiratory signs appear, such as persistent cough or respiratory discomfort. We herein report the first documented case in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 63-year-old man, with no prior medical or surgical history, consulted for a persistent dry cough, unresponsive to usual medical treatment. A chest CT scan revealed a cystic mediastinal mass close to both esoph

BACKGROUND: Esophageal duplication cyst (EDC) is a type of gastrointestinal duplication cyst that involves congenital malformations of the gastrointestinal tract. EDCs are frequently found in the mediastinum and thoracoabdominal region, but rarely occur in the abdominal cavity. However, intra-abdominal EDCs are frequently found in the upper abdomen near the abdominal esophagus. Here, we report, for the first time, a case of intra-abdominal EDC that occurred in the ileum.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 14-year-old female patient presented to our hospital with complaints of epigastric pain and vomiting.

BACKGROUND: Bronchogenic cysts (BCs) refer to congenital lesions that result from primitive or abnormal foregut budding, and can be pulmonary or mediastinal. Their occurrence can take place at any point on the tracheobronchial tree, but they are usually localized in the lung parenchyma and mediastinum, and may be symptomatic or asymptomatic. Bronchogenic cyst symptoms can vary, depending on the size and location of the cyst.
METHODS: A retrospective review of the charts of five patients with a histopathological diagnosis of bronchogenic cysts was performed between 2014 and 2020. The patients

BACKGROUND: Bronchogenic cysts are cystic masses caused by congenital abnormal development of the respiratory system, and usually occur in the pulmonary parenchyma or mediastinum.
CASE SUMMARY: A rare case of a bronchogenic cyst discovered in the abdominal cavity of a 35-year-old man is reported. Physical examination found a space-occupying lesion in the patient's abdomen for 4 d. Laparoscopic exploration found the cyst tightly adhered to the stomach and its peripheral blood vessels; therefore, intraoperative laparotomy was performed. The cystic mass was resected en bloc with an Endo-GIA stap

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Mediastinal thymic cysts are a relatively rare pathology. With the expansion of eligible individuals screened with cross-sectional imaging for lung cancer, it is likely that there will be an increase in the number of individuals presenting with these cysts. Understanding this rare pathology will become more important when this incidental pathology is encountered.
METHODS: Search of PubMed was undertaken using keywords "mediastinal", "mediastinum", "thymic", "thymus", "cyst". Relevant literature was reviewed and selected for this comprehensive narrative review, includ

INTRODUCTION: Bronchogenic cysts are congenital lesions found in the mediastinum, particularly the posterior-superior area. The current study aims to report a rare case of a subcutaneous bronchogenic cyst in the chest wall.
CASE REPORT: A 41-year-old patient presented with a swelling of the chest wall. The mass had been present since birth. On examination, there was a large soft, round mass over the sternum subcutaneously. It was a fixed, non-flatulence, non-pulsatile, and non-tender mass.
DISCUSSION: Usually, the condition develops between the fifth and sixteenth weeks of gestation, when th

BACKGROUND: Bronchogenic cysts are congenital cysts caused by abnormal sprouting from the ventral foregut during fetal life. They usually occur in the mediastinum or lung, but there are very rare cases of ectopic bronchogenic cysts that develop in the abdominal cavity. A unique intra-abdominal ectopic bronchogenic cyst with a mucinous neoplasm that was producing carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), harboring a GNAS mutation, is reported. The present case may contribute to clarifying the mechanism of tumorigenesis and malignant transformation of ectopic bronchogenic cysts.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Cystic scrotal lymphangiomas are very uncommon lesions caused by congenital lymphatic malformation. These tumors are usually located in the neck and axilla, occasionally in the mediastinum, retroperitoneum, and thigh. The scrotum and perineum are the least frequented sites. They present as painless scrotal swelling and are easily misdiagnosed as hydrocele. We present here a case of cystic scrotal lymphangioma in a school-aged child who presented to us with a massive scrotal swelling.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present here a case of a 6-year-old child who presented wit

INTRODUCTION: Bronchogenic cyst is a congenital aberration of bronchopulmonary malformation with bronchial-type, pseudostratified cylindrical epithelium. They are usually discovered in the mediastinum and intrapulmonary but are rarely encountered in retroperitoneum. We report a case of the retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst and perform a literature review to summarize the safety of laparoscopic resection for this rare disease.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 57-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital with no clinical symptoms and was found by chance to have masses in the adrenal gland a

Parathyroid adenoma (PA), one of the most common causes of hyperparathyroidism, generally involves a single parathyroid gland and is manifested as hyperparathyroidism. Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital cystic lesions caused by a development malformation in bronchi during the embryonic period, which mostly occur in the lung and mediastinum, with an extremely low morbidity rate in the neck. A 27-year-old young female was found to suffer from hyperparathyroidism on routine physical examination, and further examination suggested a cystic lesion in the right inferior parathyroid area combined
