BACKGROUND: Intestinal obstruction is a common pediatric surgical emergency and an important cause of morbidity and mortality. This study was conducted to evaluate the current etiological pattern and outcomes of intestinal obstruction in children.
METHODOLOGY: A retrospective observational study was conducted on 213 children aged 1 month to 15 years presenting with intestinal obstruction at the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Sir Sunderlal Hospital (SSH), Varanasi, India, over 1.5 years (January 2024-June 2025). Clinical, demographic, radiological, operative, and outcome data were reviewed.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Gastrointestinal duplication cysts are rare congenital anomalies, usually solitary and most often involving the ileum and esophagus. Multiple non-contiguous duplications are exceptionally uncommon and may mimic more frequent neonatal thoracic or abdominal conditions.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a term female neonate with a prenatal suspicion of congenital pulmonary airway malformation. Postnatally, she developed respiratory distress due to a large thoracic cyst, which was resected thoracoscopically and confirmed to be an esophageal duplication cyst. Weeks later,

BACKGROUND: Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most prevalent congenital anomaly of the small intestine. Internal hernia secondary to MD is extremely rare in children and poses a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report three consecutive paediatric cases successfully managed by laparoscopy-assisted trans-umbilical Meckel's diverticulectomy (LATUM) and provide a comprehensive review of the world literature. Clinical data of three children with MD complicated by internal hernia treated between March 2023 and April 2024 were retrospectively analysed. A systematic search

Fish bone perforation of the gastrointestinal tract is rare and frequently misdiagnosed-not because it is inherently difficult to recognize, but because it is not considered. Symptoms are nonspecific, patients may not recall ingestion, and the condition can mimic acute abdomen. We performed a systematic review of published case reports and case series with individual patient-level data extraction; 220 patients from 199 publications were included. The small bowel, including Meckel's diverticulum, was the most frequent perforation site (46.3%), followed by the colorectum (22.9%) and upper gastro

Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital abnormality of the small bowel, present in about 2% of the population. While typically asymptomatic, MD can cause complications such as small bowel obstruction (SBO), particularly in adults. Giant MD, defined as a diverticulum larger than 5 cm, is a rare cause of SBO and may lead to torsion, volvulus, or kinking of adjacent bowel. Preoperative diagnosis is often challenging as imaging findings are nonspecific, and MD may be misdiagnosed unless complications like inflammation or torsion occur. Surgical intervention, usually resection, is

INTRODUCTION AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: Concurrent remnants of the omphalomesenteric duct and urachus are exceptionally found. Diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum is mainly incidental, but a patent urachus is usually clinically possible.
CASE PRESENTATION: We admitted a 48-hour-old female patient for an eviscerated Meckel's diverticulum with a history of urine smelling around the umbilicus. Preoperative ultrasound did not identify an associated urachal anomaly. During emergency surgical exploration, a patent urachus was identified. Both remnants were resected, with the Meckel's diverticulum pres

Meckel's diverticulum (MD) represents a remnant of the embryonic vitelline duct and is recognized as a congenital anomaly of the small intestine. While it is more frequently identified in children, the majority of cases remain clinically silent, with symptomatic presentation in adults being relatively rare. When present, symptoms typically reflect complications, including gastrointestinal hemorrhage, diverticulitis, or intestinal obstruction. The probability of developing complications decreases with advancing age, making clinically significant presentations in elderly individuals uncommon and

Meckel's diverticulum is a congenital anomaly that often remains silent and is found incidentally. In adults, it may present with complications such as bowel obstruction or inflammation, sometimes precipitated by intussusception or volvulus. Imaging can raise suspicion of related complications, but confirmation frequently occurs at surgery. Operative management is recommended when complications are present, whereas prophylactic removal of incidentally discovered lesions remains a subject of debate. We present a case of a 56-year-old male with no significant medical history who presented with a

Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is one of the most common congenital anomalies of the gastrointestinal tract in children, although it may occasionally be detected in adults. It is typically located within 100 cm of the ileocecal valve in the distal ileum. The diverticulum varies in size and morphology; many patients remain asymptomatic throughout life. In children, the most common clinical presentation is painless gastrointestinal bleeding, followed by intestinal obstruction. Intussusception may also occur. Once complications develop, patients often present with acute abdomen. Failure to establish

Meckel's diverticulum is a congenital abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract, resulting from an incomplete obliteration of the vitello-intestinal duct. Generally, Meckel's diverticulum is asymptomatic, but it can present as intestinal perforation, obstruction, hemorrhage, and diverticulitis. These complications can develop through various mechanisms such as volvulus, adhesions, intussusception, and internal hernia. Small bowel obstruction due to a meso-diverticular band of Meckel's diverticulum is a rare complication. Herein, we present a case series of three male patients presenting with i

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Meckel's diverticulum is defined as a true diverticulum arising from the distal ileum and is the most common congenital anomaly of the small bowel, affecting approximately 2% of the population. The presence of Meckel's diverticulum within a hernial sac, especially in the inguinal canal, is uncommon and is known as Littre's hernia.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old male with an incarcerated Littre's hernia in the right inguinal region was successfully treated with segmental ileal resection and primary anastomosis, followed by hernial repair.

Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract, though it rarely presents with complications in adulthood. Axial torsion leading to gangrene, especially due to a mesodiverticular band, is an uncommon presentation and may pose a diagnostic challenge. We report a case of a 58-year-old female who presented with acute intestinal obstruction. Diagnostic laparoscopy revealed a gangrenous MD caused by axial rotation around a mesodiverticular band, without involvement of the adjacent ileum. Laparoscopic diverticulectomy was successfully performed. Isolat

Axial torsion with subsequent gangrene of Meckel's diverticulum represents an exceptionally rare cause of small bowel obstruction, one of the rarest causes of small bowel obstruction. Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract, and it is often discovered incidentally during abdominal surgery, particularly in pediatric patients. Approximately 4% of individuals with Meckel's diverticulum develop complications, including bleeding, obstruction, inflammation, intussusception, or perforation, with torsion being the rarest. Phytobezoar impaction within a Meckel's diverticulum is an exceptionally rare cause of mechanical small bowel obstruction and presents a diagnostic challenge because of its nonspecific clinical manifestations. We report the case of a 24-year-old previously healthy man who presented with a three-day history of progressive colicky abdominal pain, bilious vomiting, abdominal distension, and absolute constipation. Laboratory investigations revealed mild leukocytosis without evidence of systemic sepsis or biochemical evidence of bowel ischemia. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated mar

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract, yet acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding as a presentation in adults remains uncommon and diagnostically challenging. This case highlights the importance of early surgical decision-making in this setting.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 20-year-old male with no medical history presented with 2 days of hematochezia. Hemoglobin levels declined over 72 hours. The patient developed hemodynamic instability and episodes of syncope, which were managed on the surgical ward without vas

Background The present study focuses on uncommon surgically managed disorders of the small intestine. Although several of these entities, such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors, Crohn's disease requiring surgery, and symptomatic Meckel's diverticulum, are not classified as rare diseases by epidemiological definitions, they represent infrequently encountered indications for operative management at individual centers. Evaluating these surgically managed conditions together provides insight into diagnostic challenges, operative decision-making, and postoperative outcomes encountered in routine s

As one of the most common congenital gastrointestinal malformations, Meckel's diverticulum (MD) often has its clinical significance underestimated due to its atypical manifestations. MD may coexist as "concomitant lesions" with various abdominal surgical diseases, increasing the risk of misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. This article reports an extremely rare case of a 5-month-old male infant with necrotic Meckel's diverticulitis coexisting terminal ileal necrosis and perforation due to a congenital intraabdominal fibrous band. Through a systematic review of the literature on MD with surgical

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. Although it is often asymptomatic in adults, it can present with severe complications such as diverticulitis, hemorrhage, or intestinal obstruction. Due to its clinical presentation, it frequently mimics acute appendicitis, posing a significant diagnostic challenge. A 58-year-old female with no relevant surgical history presented to the emergency department with a two-day history of progressive sharp pain in the right iliac fossa, fever, and positive peritoneal signs. Computed tomography suggested compli
