Two experiments were conducted to (1) investigate developmental endocrinology of ovarian follicular cysts (cysts) in cattle and (2) evaluate effects of cysts on hypothalamic and hypophysial characteristics. Cysts were induced with oestradiol-17 beta (15 mg) and progesterone (37.5 mg) dissolved in alcohol and injected s.c. twice daily for 7 days. Two girls with precocious puberty (chronological age, 1 and 4 yr; bone age, 3 and 6 yr, respectively) were initially given the diagnosis of idiopathic, central precocious puberty and treated with the LHRH agonist deslorelin (D-Trp6-Pro9-NEt-LHRH) for 5 yr. The endocrine pattern and ovarian characteristics of 110 healthy adolescents with menstrual irregularities were investigated during the early follicular and premenstrual phases and were compared to those of 14 adolescents with regular menstrual cycles and 20 adults. We report one liver cystadenocarcinoma and two cholangiocarcinomas coexisting with developmental liver cysts. The teeth buds which are observed in some teratomas ought to provide a useful system for the study of the development of organ structures in these tumours. They exhibit well defined characteristics in space and time. In contrast with normal development tooth bud formation in teratomas display malformations and other observable characteristics which are primarily the consequence of defects in coordination of activities among cells. Cyto-differentiation appears to be normal and the defective organogenesis must represent a breakdown of the principles which underlie the organization of structures.

Of 125 laparoscopies, carried out in the Clinic of Surgical Gynaecology in the years 1972 to 1974, 12 referred to girls aged from 15 to 18 years (9,6%). As a consequence of the mentioned diagnostic-therapeutic procedure 6 girls (50%) avoided laparotomy. Laparoscopy is an excellent technique to establish diagnosis in cases of ovarian tumours especially in the developmental age.

Over a period of 12 months, 1006 ovine and 1129 caprine genitalia were collected from an abattoir. 57-5 per cent of the sheep and 89 per cent of the goat specimens were gravid of which 26-9 per cent and 30-2 per cent, respectively, of the total were estimated to be over two months of gestational age.
