Female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin diagnosed during the staging evaluation of extranodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin (FATPWO) is a rare neoplasm arising within the leaves of broad ligament or hanging from it or a fallopian tube. A 55-year-old female patient with the diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma is presented. The staging procedure revealed a pelvic mass that was not regressed by chemotherapy. Explorative laparotomy showed FATPWO. The extremely rare coexistence of FATPWO in the staging evaluation of non-Hodgkin lymphoma is reported. According to our knowledge, this is the first case of FATPWO coexisting with extranodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in the E

Uterine-like mass with features of an extrauterine adenomyoma presenting 22 years after total abdominal hysterectomy-bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy: a case report and review of the literature.

Adenomyoma is a benign tumor composed of smooth muscle and benign endometrium. These tumors typically originate within the uterus. An extrauterine adenomyoma is a rare entity. We report a uterine-like mass consistent with an extrauterine adenomyoma presenting 22 years following a total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. The mass was pear-shaped with uterine-type smooth muscle and a cavity lined by functional endometrial glands and stroma. To our knowledge, only 4 other cases of an extrauterine uterine-like mass are reported in the literature. Three involved the ovary,

Female adnexal tumor of probable wolffian origin: a clinicopathological case report and a possible new treatment.

Female adnexal tumors of probable wolffian origin (FATWOs) are rare tumors arising in the broad ligament from the remnants of the mesonephric duct. We report a case of recurrent disease. A 15-year-old girl who presented with a painful pelvic mass underwent a laparotomy with tumor resection. Pathology findings confirmed a FATWO. The tumor recurred within 2 years and was treated with multiple chemotherapy regimens, including a platinum-based drug, and surgery for progressive disease. The tumor was positive for c-kit oncogene (CD 117). Gleevac therapy, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, was prescribed,

Expression of adhesion molecules and Ki-67 in female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin (FATWO): report of two cases and review of the literature.

Female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin (FATWO) is a rare entity which is believed to originate from mesonephric (Wolffian) remnants on the basis of its location where the remnants are abundant. Its behavior is usually indolent, although some cases can recur or metastasize. The authors present the clinicopathological features of two cases of FATWO arising in the broad ligament, and focus on the expression of adhesion molecules and proliferative marker. Mesonephric duct remnants are also examined in an attempt to elucidate the histogenesis of FATWOs. The two FATWOs were well-circumscri

[Female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin (Wolffian adenoma)--2 case reports and literature review].

Presented are two cases of unusual adnexal tumor described under the term "female adnexal tumor of probable wolffian origin (FATWO)" in the bibliography. One lesion was 18 cm large tumor located in the ovary in 85-year-old woman, the second one was a 5 cm large pedunculated mass arising from broad ligament in 40-year-old female. Three main structural patterns often coexisted and comprised solid or diffuse, sieve-like and tubular arrangement of spindle or epithelial cells. Cellular atypia and mitotic figures were practically absent. Clinical follow up confirmed benign behavior in both cases. Di

Recurrent giant Gartner's duct cysts. A report of two cases.

BACKGROUND: Gartner's duct cysts are cystically dilated wolffian duct remnants found in the upper anterolateral part of the vagina. Many such giant cysts are diagnosed during childhood and result from ectopic communication with the ureter or cervix. There is a paucity of literature on recurrent and giant cysts presenting among older women. CASES: A 43-year-old woman presented in 1981 with a 7 x 14-cm, left, paravaginal, cystic mass. This was initially drained vaginally, then marsupialized vaginally. Following marsupialization, the patient began to note large gushes of fluid from the vagina. U

Mesonephric adenocarcinoma of the uterine corpus: CD10 expression as evidence of mesonephric differentiation.

Mesonephric (wolffian) neoplasms of the female genital tract are infrequent and found in sites where embryonic remnants of wolffian origin are usually detected, such as the uterine cervix, broad ligament, mesosalpinx, and ovary. Their diagnosis is difficult because of the absence of specific immunohistochemical markers for mesonephric derivatives. We present the first report of adenocarcinoma of mesonephric type arising as a purely myometrial mass without endometrial or cervical involvement in the uterine corpus of a 33-year-old woman. The tumor showed a combination of patterns, with retiform

Metastatic female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin: a case report and review of the literature.

Female adnexal tumor of probable wolffian origin is a rare neoplasm that can present diagnostic difficulties. We report herein a case of a 60-year-old woman with female adnexal tumor of probable wolffian origin arising within the leaves of a broad ligament and, 5 years later, presenting with metastasis to the liver. The morphologic, immunohistochemical, ultrastructural, and DNA ploidy findings of the original and metastatic tumor, differential diagnoses, and the results of the English-language literature review are presented.

[Non-secreting pheochromocytoma of the broad ligament revealed by appendicular peritonitis].

BACKGROUND: Non-secreting pheochromocytoma is an endocrine tumor located in the adrenal medulla in 85% of the cases. Extra-adrenal localizations account for the other 15%. A broad ligament localization related to an accessory adrenal gland is exceptional. CASE REPORT: A tumoral formation was observed during computed tomographic exploration of appendicular peritonitis in a 25-year-old patient. The tumor had developed from an ectopic adrenal gland included in the large ligament of the uterus. Pathology reported non-secreting pheochromocytoma confirmed by immunolabeling. DISCUSSION: The broad l

Wolffian adnexal tumor, so-called female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin (FATWO): immunohistochemical evidence in support of a Wolffian origin.

Wolffian adnexal tumor (WAT) is a rare neoplasm believed to originate from wolffian remnants on the basis of its location in areas where these remnants are abundant. To study its histogenesis, the immunoprofile of 25 WATs was compared with that of 10 cervical and vaginal mesonephric remnants and 12 rete ovarii. WATs were unilaterally located in the broad ligament (n = 10), mesosalpinx (n = 9), ovarian hilus (n = 5), and pelvis, not otherwise specified (n = 1). They showed varying morphologies with solid (spindle cells), tubular (lined by columnar cells), retiform and multicystic (spaces lined

Male adnexal tumour of probable Wolffian origin occurring in a seminal vesicle.

AIMS: Adnexal tumours of probable Wolffian origin are rare low-grade malignant neoplasms that have been previously described in the broad ligament, ovaries and retroperitoneum of females. All are characterized by small, bland epithelial cells growing in a diffuse, trabecular, or tubular pattern. The majority of the cases reported have pursued a benign clinical course. However, recurrences and distant metastases have been described. We present a case of a male adnexal tumour of probable Wolffian origin occurring in the left seminal vesicle of a 29-year-old man with 23 years of follow-up. RESUL

A case of female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin: histologically, tumor cells showed three different patterns.

We report a 63-year-old woman with a female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin, which arose within the leaves of the broad ligament, connected to the left ovary and the fallopian tube. She remains alive without evidence of disease 2 years after left salpingo-oophorectomy without subsequent adjuvant therapy. Microscopically, tumor cells were arranged in three different patterns; closely packed tubules, solid, and sieve-like. Cells had uniform round or oval nuclei and mitoses were rare. Although the majority of these tumors are benign, a few cases have shown malignant potential. Therefore

Tumor of the broad ligament in von Hippel-Lindau disease of probable mullerian origin.

A rare neoplasm seen in women with von Hippel-Lindau disease is the papillary cystadenoma of the broad ligament, only three cases of which have been reported. All three exhibited characteristic histologic features identical to those of epididymal tumors that occur in affected patients, and were presumed to be of wolffian origin. This is the case of a broad ligament tumor in a woman with von Hippel-Lindau disease that had features more consistent with a mullerian rather than wolffian origin. This is the first report of a broad ligament tumor of probable mullerian origin in von Hippel-Lindau dis

Female adnexal tumour of probable Wolffian origin: a clinicopathological and immunohistochemical study of three cases.

The clinical and pathological features of three adnexal tumours of probable Wolffian origin are reported. One case was an incidental finding in a patient who died from ovarian carcinoma; in the other two cases the patients presented with lower abdominal pain. The three tumours were well-circumscribed, solid masses arising in the leaves of the broad ligament and histological examination showed bland epithelial cells forming tubular, solid and microcystic patterns. The immunohistochemical profile of the tumours was similar to that of Wolffian duct remnants. They co-expressed cytokeratin and vime

Paravaginal female adnexal tumor of probable wolffian origin.

Female adnexal tumor of wolffian origin (FATPWO) is a lesion that predominantly occurs in the broad ligament. Its occurrence in the right paravaginal area is rare; only one other case has been reported to occur at this site. The authors report a case of paravaginal FATPWO in a 20-year-old woman that recurred twice during a 5-year period. The microscopic and ultrastructural features of this lesion were identical to other cases of FATPWO reported in the literature. This tumor must be recognized, especially at this site, so that it is not confused with vaginal adenocarcinoma related to diethylsti

Malignant female adnexal tumor of probable wolffian origin with review of the literature.

Malignant female adnexal tumor of probable wolffian origin is distinctly rare. To my knowledge, only four other cases have been reported in the English literature. This article reports a malignant female adnexal tumor of probable wolffian origin of the right broad ligament with extensive metastases to the omentum in an 81-year-old woman. The patient died 3 months after the diagnosis. The site and characteristic histologic features of the tumor and the absence of carcinoma of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus indicate that this tumor is of wolffian origin.

Extraovarian Brenner tumor coexisting with serous cystadenoma. Case report.

Only rare cases of extraovarian Brenner tumors have been described. This report concerns one case of extraovarian Brenner tumor detected in close association with an extraovarian benign serous cystadenoma. Coexistence of these two tumors supports the theory of a common origin either from celomic epithelium or remnants of the embryonic mesonephric system.

Extrauterine müllerian adenosarcoma of the peritoneal mesothelium: a clinicopathologic and electron microscopic study.

An unusual case of a müllerian adenosarcoma of the peritoneal mesothelium in a 32-year-old pregnant woman is described. On emergency laparotomy, a tumor was found in the pelvis connected with the right broad ligament only, and was removed. Light and electron microscopic examination showed a rare example of an extrauterine müllerian adenosarcoma composed of a stromal sarcoma, muscle tissue resembling primitive myoblasts, and sex-cord-like tubular lumens. The patient was followed, and after 22 months the primary surgery was reexplored. On laparotomy, no evidence of disease was found, and the ova

Leiomyoma in a müllerian remnant. A case report.

Leiomyomas are a rather common occurrence in the normal uterus. Müllerian dysgenesis, however, occurs in only approximately 1 in 5,000 female births. We found no case reports of leiomyoma arising from a müllerian remnant, as in the case reported here. Surgical management considerations include identification of the blood supply, separation of the mass from the broad ligament and care in identifying the entire length of the ureter. Due to the extreme rarity of leiomyoma in müllerian remnants, it should be considered low on the list of differential diagnoses of pelvic masses in women with müller
