Incidence of uterine cancer after supracervical hysterectomy.

BACKGROUND: Supracervical hysterectomy (SCH), commonly performed during sacrocolpopexy, involves removal of the uterine corpus, leaving the cervix in-situ. Significant anatomic variation exists in remnant tissue, which may develop into a uterine malignancy. No prior studies have sought to describe the future risk of developing de novo uterine cancer after SCH with benign pathology. This study aims to describe the incidence rate of uterine cancer following SCH performed for benign indication. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent SCH between June 2000 and December 2022

Registry Study of the Working Group on Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy (AGCPC) on the Diagnostic Algorithm for the New Cervical Cancer Screening - Persistent HPV Infections and Squamous Cell Lesions: Evaluation of over 10000 Patients.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer screening in Germany was newly regulated as of January 1, 2020. Since then, an organized cancer screening guideline (oKFE-RL) for cervical cancer screening has been effective. From the age of 20, a cytological smear is taken once a year and from the age of 35 a co-test is carried out every three years. In the event of abnormalities, an algorithm regulates the procedure. This algorithm states that even so-called low-risk groups should have a diagnostic colposcopy at an early stage. This approach has been widely discussed and continues to serve as the basis of this

Efficient production of cynomolgus monkeys via transabdominal uterine puncture embryo transfer.

Embryo transfer is a key application of assisted reproductive technology (ART) in non-human primates (NHPs), underpinning research in reproductive biology, disease modeling, and conservation. The conventional approach-tubal embryo transfer (TET)-typically requires laparoscopy system and abdominal incision to expose the oviducts and reproductive tract for embryo transfer, and is associated with complex procedures, high cost, and cumulative reproductive tract injury following repeated surgeries. Moreover, implantation and pregnancy rates decline with increasing recipient age and surgical history

Genetic and embryonic transcriptome analyses reveal the molecular and developmental basis of Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKHS) is characterised by aplasia of the uterus, cervix and upper part of the vagina. The genetic aetiology remains incompletely understood. METHODS: We performed gene-level and gene set-level burden analyses based on exome sequencing/genome sequencing data from 727 probands with MRKHS and 2504 female control individuals. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) was performed on human and mouse embryonic metanephros at different developmental stages. Genetic and transcriptomic data were integrated to prioritise suboptimal genetic signals, id

Maternal death from ruptured rudimentary horn pregnancy: a rare case report.

Pregnancy in a rudimentary horn is rare but can lead to severe complications, including life-threatening complication like rupture of the rudimentary horn. Herein, we report a case of maternal death due to massive hemorrhage from a ruptured non-communicating rudimentary horn pregnancy. A 26-year-old female died at home after experiencing severe abdominal cramps three hours prior to her death. She contemplated seeking medical attention at the beginning of her cramps but decided to wait as her pain initially subsided. Tragically, her condition worsened suddenly, and she collapsed before accessin

Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome: From Radiological Diagnosis to Further Challenges-Review and Update.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome encompasses a range of Müllerian duct anomalies characterized by congenital absence of the uterus and the upper two-thirds of the vagina in young women who otherwise exhibit normal endocrine function and a 46,XX karyotype. MRKH syndrome can occur in an isolated form (type I) or in association with other congenital anomalies (type II or MURCS association), which may include renal, vertebral, auditory, and cardiac defects. It represents one of the most frequent causes of primary amenorrhea, affecting approximately 1 in every 4000-5000 women. MRKH sy

Neonatal hyperoxia exposure causes cerebellar lesions and behavioral abnormalities in rats.

In humans, fetal cerebellar development peaks during the final stages of pregnancy. Preterm infants experience hyperoxia (excessive oxygen) outside the uterus. Hyperoxia exposure causes neurological deficits in preterm infants. However, detailed mechanisms underlying hyperoxia-induced neurological deficits remain unclear. Previous studies on neurological deficits have focused on cerebral lesions. However, recently, cerebellar lesions have been observed on brain magnetic resonance imaging in preterm infants. We herein aimed to investigate behavioral and cerebellar tissue–level changes in Spragu

Unraveling the Genetic Mysteries of Müllerian Anomalies: Research Approaches and Clinical Significance.

Müllerian anomalies are a collection of heterogeneous anatomical disorders of the female genital tract that present with complex clinical features of which severe subtypes like congenital aplasia of the vagina and uterus, may present with primary amenorrhea and dyspareunia, while mild cases like septate uterus, are often asymptomatic. Regardless of the types, the Müllerian anomalies impose both psychological and physical burdens on patients. Currently, the etiology of Müllerian anomalies remains largely unclear, which hinders early diagnosis and intervention. Although the advent of next-genera

Metroplasty before IVF in women with a T-shaped uterus: A clinical challenge.

A T-shaped uterus is a uterine malformation, which can be either congenital or acquired, potentially impairing fertility and increasing the risk of miscarriage. Diagnosis primarily relies on three-dimensional ultrasound and hysteroscopy. Hysteroscopic metroplasty is the standard surgical intervention aimed at restoring normal uterine anatomy and potentially improving reproductive outcomes. This narrative review, conducted in accordance with SANRA (Scale for the Assessment of Narrative Review Articles) guidelines, is based on a comprehensive database search and critically evaluates observationa

Phenotypic impact on coat color and uterine development in mice carrying a missense mutation associated with bovine White Heifer Disease.

White Heifer Disease (WHD) is a congenital reproductive abnormality, especially in white female offspring in certain breeds of cattle like Belgian Blue. The roan locus was reported to affect coat color and fertility. It was suggested that a missense mutation (Ala218Asp) in the transmembrane domain of Kit ligand (KITL) gene was responsible for WHD. Here we generated two types of knock-in (KI) mice to reproduce the missense KITL mutation using pigmented agouti ICR mice. KI mice carrying compound mutations mimicking bovine transmembrane domain showed moderate coat color change, but single missens

Maternal PM2.5 exposure causes fetal growth restriction and alters placental morphology: Role of uterine inflammation.

Maternal exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) correlates with low birthweight. The mechanism, however, remains elusive. We thus investigated the effects of maternal PM2.5 exposure on maternal uterus and placenta. To this end, female C57BL/6 J mice were exposed to filtered air (FA) or concentrated ambient PM2.5 (CAP) for 20 weeks and then mated with normal males. Placentas and fetus of gestation day 18.5 were harvested and analyzed. Pregnancy outcomes were also assessed, and after weaning, the uteri of those subgroups of dams were collected and analyzed either at estrus or diestrus stage

Reproductive outcomes of different management strategies after hysteroscopic resection of the uterine septum with endometrial polyps: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: The presence of a septate uterus combined with endometrial polyps significantly impacts women's fertility. There is currently no study on whether medication is needed after surgery and which postoperative regimen is more beneficial for uterine recovery and pregnancy outcomes. This study aims to compare the reproductive outcomes and complications of artificial cycle therapy with those of short-acting contraceptives or no hormonal treatment after hysteroscopic resection of the uterine septum with coexisting endometrial polyps. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 189 wome

Total laparoscopic excision of pelvic retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma: a case report and review of the literature.

Ganglioneuroma is defined as a rare, benign neurogenic tumor. This paper reports a case of pelvic retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma in a 12-year-old girl and reviews the relevant literature. The patient was found to have a pelvic retroperitoneal mass incidentally during a health check-up and had no significant clinical symptoms. Gynecological ultrasound revealed a hypoechoic mass posterior to the uterus, measuring approximately 63 × 52 mm, with clear boundaries. No obvious abnormalities were observed in the uterus and adnexa. Pelvic CT showed a well-defined, low-density mass measuring 59 mm × 55

Mosaic variants in the LIM homeobox 1 (LHX1) gene contribute to Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome.

Mayer–Rokitansky–Küster–Hauser (MRKH) syndrome presents as the congenital absence of the uterus and vagina and affects approximately 1 in 4500 women. Affected individuals have normal breast development, primary amenorrhea, and a 46,XX karyotype. Müllerian aplasia may be isolated (type 1) or associated with renal, skeletal, cardiac, and auditory anomalies (type 2). The pathogenesis of MRKH largely remains unknown, but the LHX1 gene, which encodes a transcription factor, is an attractive candidate. LHX1 has been extensively studied in animals but less studied in humans. The Lhx1-null mouse model

Step-by-step ultrasound guide for rudimentary horn pregnancy diagnosis.

Rudimentary horn pregnancy (RHP) is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy that poses significant risks if not recognised early, as rupture can result in severe maternal morbidity. Early diagnosis is both challenging and crucial. Ultrasound pattern recognition plays a central role in identifying RHP, with MRI serving as a valuable adjunct in suspicious cases. Here, we report a case of an unruptured RHP diagnosed in the early second trimester, following a failed medical termination attempt 6 days prior due to early fetal demise. We present a step-by-step ultrasound diagnostic approach, emphasising th
