Developmental disorders of the reproductive tract in C57BL/6N-XYPOS mice.

Mammalian embryos possess undifferentiated gonads and primordial male and female reproductive tracts. In males, sex-determining region of the Y chromosome (Sry) triggers the differentiation of gonadal supporting cell precursors into Sertoli cells. In C57BL/6N-XYPOS (B6N-XYPOS) mice, a model of disorders of sex development, Sry expression is delayed relative to wild-type B6N mice, and several reproductive tract malformations have been reported. In this study, we investigated the developmental stage and regions at which reproductive tract development fails in B6N-XYPOS. In B6N-XYPOS at 15.5 days

A Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome Adapted for Other Disorders of Sex Development: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Variations in Sex Characteristics (VSC) also called Differences in/Disorders of Sex Development (DSD) include a range of conditions of congenital abnormalities of the reproductive system. Either the internal and/or external genital tract are affected, presenting as androgenisation of the external genitalia, or incomplete formation of the vagina and uterus, and/or gonads. We previously developed a model of the core psychological impact of diagnosis/medical treatment of one of these conditions, namely utero-vaginal-agenesis or Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome (MRKH), and a Cog

Waiting as a frontier: (Un)making patients for uterus transplantation in Denmark.

Uterus transplantation (UTx) is an emerging frontier in reproductive medicine, that offers women born without a uterus the possibility of gestation through transplantation. While clinical programs are being established elsewhere, UTx remains unavailable in Denmark, where it has existed for nearly a decade as an anticipated yet inaccessible option. Based on in-depth interviews conducted between 2023 and 2025, this article explores experiences of waiting for UTx in Denmark. Drawing on interviews with ten women diagnosed with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome and eight medical profes

Short-term exposure to a mixture of tributyltin plus cadmium disrupts the female reproductive organs, inducing ovarian follicular depletion and metabolic offspring outcomes in rats.

Tributyltin (TBT) and cadmium (Cd) are environmental pollutants that separately cause reproductive problems. However, the reproductive effects of exposure to a mixture of TBT plus Cd are not well known. We hypothesized that exposure to a mixture of TBT plus Cd (TBT + Cd) changes reproductive function. Female rats were treated with the TBT + Cd mixture daily for 15 days, after which tissue chemical deposition, histology, hormone levels, inflammation, collagen deposition, and protein expression in the ovary and uterus were assessed. Increased tin (Sn) and Cd levels were identified in the sera an

Pelvic pain and generalized persistent pain in people with mayer-rokitansky-küster-hauser syndrome: a cross-sectional survey study.

BACKGROUND: Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is characterised by congenital underdevelopment of the uterus and vagina. While absence of menstruation might be expected to reduce pelvic pain, the prevalence and nature of pain syndromes in MRKH are not well established. AIMS: To determine the prevalence and severity of self-reported chronic pelvic pain (CPP) and generalised persistent pain (GPP) in a large Australian sample of women with MRKH, and to compare findings with general population estimates. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in collabor

A primary study: high-throughput sequencing analysis of amniotic fluid microbiota in 50 high-risk pregnant women during the second trimester.

OBJECTIVE: Whether bacteria exist in the pregnancy uterus without pathological infection has long been a controversial topic. Through this study, we aim to determine whether characteristic amniotic fluid microbiota exists in the uterus of high-risk pregnant women during the second trimester. METHODS: This study recruited high-risk pregnant women in the second trimester from September 1, 2024, to August 30, 2025, and recorded their age and gestational age. Amniotic fluid samples were obtained through amniocentesis under strictly sterile conditions, and 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing was p

First Record of Morphological Abnormalities in an Embryo of the Longtail Stingray (Hypanus longus) From the Ecuadorian Pacific.

This short communication reports the first record of multiple morphological anomalies in an embryo of Hypanus longus from Ecuadorian waters. A gravid female H. longus contained two embryos in the uterus: one exhibiting normal morphology and the other presenting several severe anomalies, including an opening in the chondrocranial membrane, separation of the pectoral fins and an incomplete pelvic fin. In addition, a helical torsion of the caudal fin was observed, an anomaly not previously reported in batoids. The deformities observed would likely have severely impaired the embryo's growth and de

Ectopic Kidney With Vesicoureteral Reflux and Associated Gonadal and Müllerian Anomalies in a Prepubertal Child: A Case Report.

The association between congenital renal abnormalities and Müllerian duct anomalies (MDAs) has long been recognized. We present an unusual case, which is of a female child with left grade 4 vesicoureteric reflux (VUR) with ectopic pelvic kidney, who underwent laparoscopic extravesical ureteric reimplantation. Incidental findings on laparoscopy were a left-sided unicornuate uterus placed below the iliac vessels and an ectopic right ovary placed near the deep inguinal ring, which was missed on imaging. Parents of the patient were counselled regarding the complications associated with Müllerian a
