Co-occurrence of Unicornuate Uterus with Noncommunicating Functioning Rudimentary Horn and VACTERL Association-A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: The co-occurrence of a unicornuate uterus with a noncommunicating, functioning rudimentary horn and VACTERL association represents an extremely rare condition, with only 3 similar cases reported in the literature. CASE: The patient, aged 12 years and 9 months, presented with pelvic pain and severe dysmenorrhea, which started shortly after her menarche at 12 years and 4 months. At birth, she exhibited 3 characteristic components of VACTERL association: bronchoesophageal fistula/esophageal atresia, anal atresia, and polydactyly. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a unicornuate ut

Imaging of the Vagina: Spectrum of Disease with Emphasis on MRI Appearance.

The vagina is a median fibromuscular structure of the female reproductive system that extends from the vulva inferiorly to the uterine cervix superiorly. As most vaginal lesions are detected at gynecologic examination, imaging performed for nongynecologic indications can frequently cause concomitant vaginal pathologic conditions to be overlooked. The vagina is often underevaluated at routinely performed pelvic transvaginal US because of a narrow scan area and probe positioning. MRI has progressively become the imaging method of choice for vaginal pathologic conditions, as it provides excellent

Congenital anal atresia with rectovestibular fistula, scoliosis, unilateral renal agenesis, and finger defect (VACTERL association) in a patient with partial bicornuate uterus and distal vaginal atresia: A case report.

RATIONALE: Vertebral defect, anal atresia, cardiac defect, tracheoesophageal fistula/esophageal atresia, renal defect, and limb defect (VACTERL) association and Müllerian duct anomalies are rare conditions. We present a rare condition with the co-occurrence of the VACTERL association and Müllerian duct hypoplasia to characterize patients' clinical presentations, outcomes, and treatment. PATIENT CONCERNS: An 11-year-old girl presented to our hospital with severe lower abdominal pain, lower vaginal atresia with enlargement of the upper vagina and a bicornuate uterus with a Y-shaped uterine cavi

Müllerian anomaly in a woman with Hirschsprung's disease.

Müllerian anomalies are usually isolated or found in association with abnormalities of the renal tract. Rarely, they are encountered with coexisting Ggastrointestinal anomalies. Similarly, Hirschsprung's disease may coexist with additional somatic abnormalities, yet only a single case report has reported a müllerian anomaly coexisting with Hirschsprung's. A 35-year-old woman with long-standing dysmenorrhoea and infertility and history of Hirschsprung's disease and some components of VATER syndrome (vertebral anomalies, anal atresia, tracheoesophageal fistula, renal anomalies) underwent operati

Management of lower vaginal agenesis in a patient with unicornuate uterus.

BACKGROUND: Absence of the lower vagina occurs from abnormal development of the sinovaginal bulbs and vaginal plate. CASE: We present a case of an adolescent girl, with a history of VACTERL and VATER status post flap vaginoplasty at 8 m of age and correction of vaginal-urethral fistula, with primary amenorrhea and cyclic pelvic pain. MRI showed a right hematocolpos. On exam the obstructed vagina was deviated to the right. Given prior urologic and rectal surgery, and laterality of unicornuate system, intra-operative ultrasonography (US) was performed. A needle was used to enter the inferior as

A newborn with caudal duplication and duplex imperforate anus.

There are case reports of duplication of the colon, rectum, anus, urinary system, lower genital tract, and external genitalia, spinal anomalies, and abdominal wall defects. However, it is rare to encounter a single newborn with all of the mentioned abnormalities, which have been defined as the caudal duplication syndrome (CDS). Herein, we present a newborn with an omphalocele, duplex external genitalia (with duplex labia minora and labia majora), duplex urethral orifices, duplex vaginal orifices, and duplex anal dimple with imperforate anus and rectovestibular fistula on both sides. Exploratio

Retroperitoneal duplication cyst with a fistulous tract to the vagina: a case report.

OBJECTIVES: To describe a rare case of a retroperitoneal duplication cyst that fistulized to the vagina. METHODS: Case description and discussion of a patient found to have an intestinal duplication cyst. RESULTS: A patient presented for a laparoscopic hysterectomy because of menorrhagia and a fibroid uterus. She also complained of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and a vaginal discharge. A retroperitoneal intestinal duplication cyst that fistulized to the vagina and caused her recurrent UTIs was identified. Surgical resection of the cyst resolved her complaint of recurrent UTIs. C

The anomalous clinical anatomy of congenital pouch colon in girls.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the anomalous clinical anatomy of congenital pouch colon (CPC) associated with anorectal agenesis in 22 consecutive girls managed over a study period of 7 years. METHODS: The 22 patients were categorized into 2 groups. Group A consisted of 10 patients who presented during the neonatal period (n = 9) or as a young infant (n = 1). In these patients, only preliminary assessment results were available. Group B (12 patients) comprised 5 newborns who remained on follow-up and 7 patients who presented after the age of 1 year. These 12 patient

Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome and anal canal stenosis: case report and review of literature.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) is a characteristic syndrome in which the mullerian structures are absent or rudimentary. It is also associated with anomalies of the genitourinary and skeletal systems. There are very few cases reported regarding its association with anorectal malformations, particularly perineal fistulas. To the best of our knowledge, there have not been any reported cases of anal canal stenosis in patients with MRKH. We describe a very rare association of MRKH with anal canal stenosis and multiple renal calculi. The patient underwent corrective surgery for the anomalies

MURCS association and rectovestibular fistula: case report of a patient treated with one-stage posterior sagittal anorectoplasty and sigmoid loop vaginoplasty.

MURCS association is rare, first described by Duncan in 1979, including nonrandom association of Mullerian duct aplasia or hypoplasia (MU), renal agenesis or ectopy (R), and cervicothoracic somite dysplasia. A 5-year-old girl was admitted to the clinic with a complaint of anteriorly located anus. Physical and radiologic examination of the patient found MURCS association with anorectal malformation (ARM) of rectovestibular-type fistula. She had multiple vertebral anomalies, left renal agenesis, vaginal and uterine agenesia, with a normal female 46,XX karyotype. Posterior sagittal anorectoplasty

Congenital pouch colon in females.

From January 1995 to March 1998, congenital pouch colon (CPC) with anorectal agenesis was diagnosed in ten girls who were classified into four groups based on the length of normal colon proximal to the colonic pouch. Of six girls with little or no normal colon, one had a cloacal anomaly while five had a colovesical or colovestibular fistula along with a completely bifid uterus and cervix and a septate vagina. Initial surgery consisted of ligation of the fistula and subtotal pouch excision with tubularization of the remaining colon in four girls, ileostomy after excision of a gangrenous pouch i
