Implications of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in a Patient With Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a heterogenous group of connective tissue disorders characterized by defective collagen production. Patients with EDS have lax and fragile connective tissue in their joints, skin, blood vessels, and hollow organs. This can lead to, among other complications, joint hypermobility, aneurysms, organ prolapse, and musculoskeletal chronic pain. Given that patients with vaginal agenesis, which occurs with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, often require vaginal dilation as part of their treatment, tissue elasticity and fragility are important

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome as an interdisciplinary problem.

The Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, also known as Müllerian agenesis or aplasia, is a congenital disease manifested by the aplasia of the uterus and the upper 2/3 of the vagina; its incidence is 1 in 4,000-5,000 female live births. We can distinguish 2 types of the MRKH syndrome: type I, which is characterized by an isolated absence of 2/3 of the vagina and uterus; and type II or MURCS (Müllerian duct aplasia, unilateral renal agenesis and cervicothoracic somite anomalies), which is also associated with other symptoms. The treatment of the MRKH syndrome patients aims at creatin

Monochorionic diamniotic twins of discordant external genitalia with 45,X/46,XY mosaicism.

BACKGROUND: Monozygotic twins with 45,X/46,XY mosaicism, discordant for phenotypic sex, are extremely rare. METHODS: This report describes the clinical findings of a rare case of 45,X/46,XY mosaicism in monozygotic twins with different external genitalia. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array analysis, performed by collecting DNA from each umbilical cord, showed identical SNPs in the autosomal chromosomes of both fetuses. RESULTS: Chorionic villus sampling of a 37-year-old primigravida carrying monozygotic twins revealed a 45,X/46,XY karyotype. Autopsy of the aborted fetuses revealed a

A rare form of Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome associated with ovarian endometrioma: a case report.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome is a congenital malformation that affects the uterus and upper two-thirds of the vagina. Its prevalence is estimated to be 1 in 4500 live births. We present the case of a 19-year-old patient that presented with primary amenorrhea and cyclic abdominal pain. Upon the exploratory laparoscopy, a right rudimentary uterine horn and left unicornuate uterus were found. These two entities were completely separated from each other and from the vaginal vault. In addition, a left ovarian endometrioma was also found. The unicornuate uterus was resected with an intent

Hidradenitis Suppurativa in a Patient Affected by Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome: Insight into the Role of Hormones in HS.

INTRODUCTION: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is an inflammatory skin disease, which usually occurs after puberty. Even if the pathogenesis of HS is still unproven, numerous studies hypothesized that the disease is triggered by genetic and environmental factors, with hormones playing a central role. Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is a congenital malformation in which a failure of Müllerian duct development results in absent uterus and fallopian tubes and malformations of the vagina. New Consideration of Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich Syndrome Diagnosed by Ultrasound.

OBJECTIVES: As a rare malformation of the female reproductive system, Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome (HWWS) was categorized into 3 classifications. It was recommended recently that, on the basis of the past classification, cervicovaginal atresia without communicating uteri should be newly added as classification 4. The surgical intervention will differ by type. To better optimize patient counseling as well as the preoperative evaluation and planning, our objective was to describe the ultrasound characteristics of each type of HWWS, including the new type. METHODS: From January 1995 to Nove

Rare case of pseudohypoaldosteronism in a neonate secondary to congenital hydrometrocolpos.

Pseudohypoaldosteronism (PHA) due to obstructive uropathy, urinary tract infections and congenital urogenital malformations has been reported in the literature; however, there are no reports of PHA associated with hydrometrocolpos due to a common urogenital tract. Hydrometrocolpos is a condition resulting in distension of the vagina and uterus due to accumulation of secretions (other than blood), caused by increased oestrogenic stimulation and vaginal outflow obstruction. We report on a neonatal case of PHA caused by recurrent hydrometrocolpos presenting with vomiting and poor weight gain. The

Interpreting body MRI cases: classic findings in pelvic MRI.

The high contrast resolution provided by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compared to all other modalities allows the interpreting radiologist to make a specific diagnosis for many common and uncommon findings. In some cases, the diagnosis can be so certain that there is no differential diagnosis. In this article, we review the most classically recognized findings when interpreting MRI of the pelvis including the following: Ovaries: Simple cyst, hemorrhagic cyst, corpus luteum, dermoid, fibroma/fibrothecoma. Uterus: C-section scar, adenomyosis, endometriosis, fibroid, congenital uterine anomal
