Journal of laparoendoscopic & advanced surgical techniques. Part A2026eng
BACKGROUND: Ectopic testis (ET), testicular descent outside the normal pathway, is a rare condition with variants such as perineal ET (PET), femoral ET (FET), and transverse testicular ectopia (TTE). Most studies on ET have reported open surgical techniques, whereas laparoscopic evidence remains limited. This retrospective single-center study evaluated the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic orchiopexy for pediatric ET.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 2306 pediatric patients aged <10 years who underwent laparoscopic orchiopexy for abnormal testicular descent between January 2016 and D

BACKGROUND/AIM: Perineal ectopic testis (PET) is a very rare condition in the spectrum of abnormally located testis and should be looked for in all children with an empty scrotum who do not have undescended testis (UDT). While the etiology of testicular ectopia is not completely known, the complications are similar to that of UDT, and timely placement in scrotum is critical. Single incision scrotal orchiopexy is increasingly used for low-lying UDT. The aim of this study is to present our experience with parascrotal orchiopexy in the management of PET.

The torsion of an ectopic testis is a rare urological condition encountered only infrequently in clinical practice, and its symptoms may be misleading and interpreted as signs of other common conditions. We report an unusual case of a 20-year-old male patient who sought emergency medical care for acute abdominal pain. On examination, an empty left hemiscrotum was found, and an immediate (CT) scan of the abdomen showed torsion of an intra-abdominal testis. The patient underwent urgent surgical exploration, during which the ectopic testis was found to be viable and was successfully preserved and

The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l

Spigelian hernia and cryptorchidism syndrome in children is increasingly reported in the literature. A variety of phenotypes have been reported, so diagnostic approaches and operative techniques remain poorly defined. The case of an infant male who presented with a left spigelian hernia and ipsilateral cryptorchidism who was initially misdiagnosed with an ectopic inguinal testis is presented. He underwent diagnostic laparoscopy which revealed an ectopic left testis within the spigelian hernia defect with a gubernaculum present. Collaborative decision making between paediatric surgery and paedi

Cryptorchidism is the most common congenital anomaly of the male genitalia, and if left untreated, it can cause infertility, inguinal hernias, testicular torsion, and an increased risk of testicular germ cell cancer. Torsion of the intra-abdominal testis is a rare cause of acute abdomen that is often misdiagnosed unless there is a strong index of suspicion, a clear history of cryptorchidism, and a scrotal examination. We present a case of torsion of the intra-abdominal testis diagnosed intraoperatively during surgery performed for suspected appendicitis. We also review the management of crypto

BACKGROUND: Pediatric inguinal surgeries, including procedures for inguinal hernias, undescended testes, and hydroceles, are among the most common surgical interventions in children. While these conditions are well-understood, rare intraoperative findings and anatomical variations can complicate surgical management. This study reviews a decade of experience at a single institution to evaluate the incidence, management, and outcomes of such rare findings.
METHODS: A retrospective observational study was conducted at a tertiary pediatric surgery center in Egypt, analyzing all inguinal surgeries

Transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is a variant of ectopic testis in which both testes are located in the same scrotum. Persistent Müllerian duct syndrome (PMDS) is a congenital anomaly characterized by the retention of Müllerian duct remnants in males. TTE is a characteristic clinical finding in PMDS. This case report describes a patient in his 50s who was diagnosed with PMDS based on TTE findings and a pelvic structure suggestive of a Müllerian duct remnant. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed the normal left testis within the left scrotum. The soft tissue

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of traumatic ectopic testis with torsion.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data on a case of traumatic ectopic testis with torsion and reviewed relevant literature.
RESULTS: After diagnosed with traumatic ectopic testis with torsion, the patient underwent exploratory operation for confirmation of orchiocatabasis, followed by testicular reduction and fixation. Follow-up visit at 1 month after surgery showed good blood supply and no obvious testicular atrophy.
CONCLUSION: Traumatic ectopic testis with t

The Spigelian hernia-cryptorchidism syndrome is a rare clinical entity observed in male neonates. It is characterized by a congenital defect in the Spigelian fascia, resulting in a hernia along the semilunar line, often associated with intestinal obstruction. A hallmark feature is the presence of an ectopic testis, typically located within or immediately adjacent to the hernia sac. This association suggests a developmental anomaly involving both the abdominal wall structures and the genitourinary system. We present the case of a male infant with a history of surgically corrected Tetralogy of F

BACKGROUND: Crossed ectopic testis is one of the rare congenital anomalies of testicular migration that is observed in < 0.67% of men.
CASE PRESENTATION: In this study, we reported a rare case of a 36-yr-old infertile man with a normal karyotype who was referred to the Royan Institute, Tehran, Iran. He suffered infertility for 8 yr and underwent inguinal hernia surgery. By ultrasound study, the left testis, vas deferens, and spermatic cord were detected. In ultrasound, the right testis was not seen in the right scrotum. The right ectopic testis was observed in the superior part of the left sc

Traumatic testicular dislocation is rare and usually occurs in patients after a traumatic motor accident. Manual reduction or surgical exploration is the main treatment for this condition. We report a rare case of unilateral traumatic testicular dislocation in a man with an ectopic testis in the middle of the penis after a motorcycle crash injury. On the sixth day of hospitalization, the patient found a lump in the middle of his penis. Doppler ultrasound showed an ectopic testicle in the middle of the penis with good blood flow. After consultation, a manual reduction was successfully performed

Transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is an infrequent ectopic testis where both testes descend via the same inguinal canal, located in the same hemiscrotum, and augments the risk of developing testicular tumours. Type II TTE is accompanied by persistent Müllerian duct syndrome, where the Müllerian structures persist for various reasons. Here, we present a case of an adult in his early 30s, who presented with a right testicular swelling and was diagnosed as type II TTE and testicular mixed germ cell tumour after surgery. We could find only 13 similar cases of TTE and testicular tumours in the li

INTRODUCTION: Transverse testicular ectopia is a rare anomaly in which both testes descend toward the same side of the hemiscrotum.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old man presented with right inguinal enlargement. Computed tomography showed a normal testis in the right hemiscrotum and a 58 mm heterogeneous mass in the right inguinal area. No testis was observed in the left hemiscrotum. The vascular structures extended from the right inguinal mass to the left renal vein. Consequently, the left testicular tumor was diagnosed as transverse testicular ectopia, and a left orchiectomy was performed.

A 2-year-old male child presented to us with absent left testis in scrotum since birth. Parents noted a pinkish white globular mass in medial aspect of left thigh. At the time of presentation (2 years old) he had a 2 x 2 cm, firm, subcutaneous swelling located on the medial aspect of the left thigh. Ultrasonography was suggestive of left ectopic testis of size 1 x 1.2cm in the femoral region. Orchidopexy was done. In our case the term scrotoschisis will not be appropriate as testicular extrusion has occurred through femoral region and not the scrotum. This can be considered as extracorporeal t

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Perineal ectopic testis (PET) is a rare congenital anomaly; the diagnosis is typically made by conducting a physical examination of the ectopic areas and noting an empty scrotum on the corresponding side. We report two pediatric cases of PET in whom this condition was diagnosed by a discomfort induced by the sitting position.
CASES PRESENTATION: Two cases of PET were operated on in our pediatric surgery department over the past three years. Patients were referred for perineal discomfort in the sitting position. Children had difficulty staying seated at home or schoo

Since ectopic twisted testes are a rare condition, correctly and opportunely diagnosing them preoperatively is difficult and can result in testicular necrosis. We report a clinical case of a twisted ectopic testis that was diagnosed preoperatively by ultrasonography, and the testis could be rescued. A generally healthy 13-year-old boy was referred to our Urology Department after experiencing a painless swelling in the left inguinal region two weeks before, and mild exercise-induced pain in the same area one week before the referral. The mild pain persisted without worsening. On examination, a

Cryptorchid bulls have low economic value owing to the effects of masculinization. Moreover, surgical removal of an ectopic testis is difficult in certain clinical cases. Recently, immunocastration has garnered popularity as a nonsurgical castration method in pig farming; however, the effects of immunocastration on cryptorchid bulls are yet to be yet. Herein, we investigated endocrine changes due to immunocastration in cryptorchid bulls and studied its effectiveness. This study included 13 Holstein bulls diagnosed with cryptorchidism and classified into two groups based on pubertal period: <8
