Testicular ectopia: A case report.

This paper mainly describes three cases of children with ectopic testis, of which two patients with transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) and one with perineal ectopic testis (PET). All patients who underwent orchidopexy at the same pediatric surgical unit in the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University (Jining, China) between June 2010 and February 2021 were retrospectively evaluated (age range, 14-34 months). A total of two patients (67%) was admitted with asymptomatic unilateral inguinal masses and the contralateral testis missing; the first patient was diagnosed with TTE intraoperati

Streptococcus canis prostatitis and endocarditis with thromboembolism in a dog with sertoli cell tumour in a cryptic testis and prostatic squamous metaplasia.

We describe an unusual case of prostatitis caused by Streptococcus canis evolving to endocarditis and splenic, renal, and cerebral thromboembolism in a dog, associated with a Sertoli cell tumour in a cryptic testis and diffuse prostatic squamous metaplasia. A nine-year-old, intact male, mixed-breed dog was presented to a veterinary teaching hospital with abdominal pain and prostration. Physical examination and abdominal ultrasonography revealed an atrophic right testicle located in the subcutaneous tissue. The left testicle was in the abdominal cavity with increased dimensions and irregular co

Novel compound heterozygous WDR35 variants in a Chinese patient associated with cranioectodermal dysplasia and ectopic testis: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: WDR35 variants are known to cause a rare autosomal recessive disorder-Cranioectodermal dysplasia (CED). The CED patients are commonly present with facial dysmorphisms (frontal bossing and low-set ears), sagittal craniosynostosis, growth retardation, dolichocephaly, skeletal deformities (brachydactyly, terminal hypoplasia of the fingers and narrow thorax), ectodermal abnormalities (sparse hair, and finger/toe nail dysplasia), nephronophthisis, retinal dystrophy and hepatic fibrosis. Diagnosis of CED can be difficult because it presents with high genetic heterogeneity. However, our u

Misdiagnosis and mistreatment of transverse testicular ectopia-two case report and review of literature.

RATIONALE: Transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is a rare congenital malformation with a high rate of misdiagnosis and mistreatment before operation, which cannot be diagnosed even during operation due to lack of knowledge. PATIENT CONCERNS: Two patients with ectopic testes who were misdiagnosed as right inguinal hernia for the first time and underwent surgery. The "ovary" and "testicle" like structures was seen in the right inguinal region during the first operation. After being transferred to our hospital for laparoscopic surgery, it was found that the left spermatic cord and testis were tra

Surgical resection therapy of a rare presentation of persistent Mullerian duct syndrome: a case review.

Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS) is an extremely rare disease with less than 300 cases recorded in medical literature. Our patient was a 37 year old male who presented at the medical office with hematospermia as his sole complaint. He had previously undergone left orchidopexy and presented with hypotrophic left testicle and right testicle agenesis. PMDS differential was considered with the clear observation of a uterus-like structure during pelvic ultrasonography. The organs were later studied in magnetic resonance imaging and confirmed by post-surgery anatomopathological examination.

Perineal ectopic testis in adult: Experience from tertiary hospital, northern Tanzania.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Perineal ectopic testis is a rare congenital abnormality mostly diagnosed during childhood period. The diagnosis can be easily reached by physical examination. The treatment of choice is either orchidopexy or orchiectomy through scrotal or inguinal approach. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of 30 year old male with painful perineal mass and empty right hemiscrotum. Ultrasound of the mass was done prior to operative procedure and the ectopic testis was the working diagnosis ever since. At exploration there was no abnormality found on the testis; thus, orchidopex

Intra-abdominal mass with empty scrotum in adult male revealed as testicular seminoma: A case report.

During fatal development, the testes grow in the abdomen and descend into the scrotal sac. It can be stopped at any point along its path (cryptorchidism) or migrate to an atypical side (ectopic testis). A 47-year-old man from Somalia's lower Shabelle region was presented to the urology OPD, He had a history of non-tender abdominal mass for the previous four months, An examination revealed a mass in his abdomen that was firm, non-tender, and immobile, an abdominal ultrasound and a contrast enhanced CT abdomen showed a 15-cm heterogeneous bean-shaped mass above the bladder. After patient counsel

Congenital Spigelian Hernia With Ipsilateral Ectopic Testis.

Background: The association between congenital spigelian hernia and ipsilateral ectopic testis has been debated in the literature, and the management of such cases has yet to be standardized. Both pediatric surgeons and sonographers should be aware of this entity to allow for prompt diagnosis and monitoring/repair because congenital spigelian hernias have a high risk of incarceration. Case Report: A 3-month-old male presented with left-sided abdominal wall swelling present since birth with coexisting left-sided undescended testis. Ultrasound confirmed the suspicion of a congenital spigelian he

An Asian case of combined 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency due to homozygous p.R96Q mutation: A case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Combined 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency (17-OHD) is a very rare form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) caused by mutations in the CYP17A1 gene. Almost 100 different mutations of the CYP17A1 gene have been reported, including p.R96Q mutation, but no case of p.R96Q mutation has been described in Asian populations. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a 22-year-old female patient of 46,XY karyotype, who presented with pseudohermaphrodism, primary amenorrhea, underdeveloped secondary sexual characteristics, delayed epiphyseal healing, hypertension, and hypokalemia. Scrotal orchidopexy for perineal ectopic testis.

Perineal ectopic testis (PET) is a rare form of testicular migration abnormality. We report a case of neonatal PET diagnosis and early management. In reported cases, diagnosis is often late, well after the age of 1 year, and surgery is conventionally performed by an inguinal and scrotal approach. Here, surgery consisted of scrotal orchidopexy, with placement in the dartos, at the age of 6 months. Follow-up was uncomplicated. This approach has not been reported for this form of ectopy, but seems perfectly suitable. There is no advantage to delaying the treatment of this type of ectopy.

Left-right reversal of the testes within the scrotum: An extremely rare variant of testicular ectopia.

INTRODUCTION: Testicular ectopia refers to abnormal positioning of testis, which includes a wide variety of variants. An ectopic testis is located off the normal path of male gonadal descent, unlike conventional undescended testis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old man presented with the complaint of a palpable lesion in the scrotum. Magnetic resonance imaging of the scrotum revealed bilateral testes on the respective opposite sides of the scrotum with bilateral spermatic cords crossing under the base of the penis. Accordingly, he was diagnosed as "left-right reversal of the testes within the

Penopubic testicular ectopia with bilateral cryptorchidism presenting as obstructed inguinal Amyand's hernia.

Testicular ectopia is an aberrant deviation of the migration of the testis from its usual path of descent into the scrotum. Of the forms of ectopic testis, the penopubic (also called pubopenile) type is one of the least common; in this case, presented as an obstructed hernia. We report a rare case of penopubic testicular ectopia with bilateral cryptorchidism in a 17-year-old boy who presented to the emergency room with right obstructed inguinal hernia. Intraoperative findings included bilateral cryptorchidism, hernia sac with right undescended testis and normal vermiform appendix, a left penop

A case presentation with tranverse testicular ectopia.

Transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is a rare congenital anomaly, in which both gonads migrate toward the same hemiscrotum with increased risk of testicular malignancy and associated with various abnormalities. Proper knowledge and imaging techniques are essential in diagnosis. Ultrasonography(USG) offer an easy, safe, and convenient alternative in assessment of TTE. We report a case of 41-year-male with infertility, who presented with left reducible inguinal hernia and right undescended testis. Final diagnosis was confirmed by USG and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). The embryology, imaging f

Penile epidermal inclusion cyst mimicking ectopic testis mass: A case report.

Epidermal inclusion cyst is a benign lesion that can originate in all parts of the human body. However, the penile location is quite rare. We reported a 24-years old man with a painless, soft, progressive-growing mass at the distal part of the penis with a history of ectopic undescended testis. Complete resection was performed, and further histopathologic study revealed an epidermal inclusion cyst of the penis. This report would like to present a rare case of a penile epidermal inclusion cyst mimicking an ectopic testis mass at our institution.

Validation of ultrasound biomicroscopy for the assessment of xenogeneic testis tissue grafts and cell implants in recipient mice.

BACKGROUND: Subcutaneous grafting/implantation of neonatal testis tissue/cells from diverse donor species into recipient mice can be used as an in vivo model to study testis development, spermatogenesis, and steroidogenesis. Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) allows obtaining high definition cross-sectional images of tissues at microscopic resolutions. OBJECTIVES: The present study was designed to (a) validate the use of UBM for non-invasive monitoring of grafts/implants overtime and to (b) correlate UBM findings with the morphological attributes of recovered grafts/implants. Detection and Treatment of Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome With Transverse Testicular Ectopia.

The coexistence of persistent Mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS) with transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is extremely rare. Due to a lack of distinctive clinical features in the early stages, PMDS coexists with TTE is usuallydiagnosed when patients are examined for other diseases, including cryptorchidism and inguinal hernia. We present a case of a 51-year-old man who presented with a recurrent left indirect inguinal hernia for 2 years and right congenital cryptorchidism. The patient was diagnosed as PMDS with TTE by preoperative magnetic resonance imaging and underwent laparoscopic resection of t

Inguinal hernia in girls: A retrospective analysis of over 1000 patients.

BACKGROUND: In girls with inguinal hernia, timing of surgical repair to prevent ovarian strangulation and screening for Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS) remain controversial. This study assesses the incidence of ovarian strangulation and AIS, and its associated risk factors. METHODS: Electronic patient records were used to study girls aged 0-15 years who underwent inguinal hernia repair between 2000 and 2017. Patients with incomplete data were excluded. Risk factors were identified using logistic regression. RESULTS: This study includes 1084 girls (median (IQR) age: 133.5 (14-281) weeks

Spigelian-cryptorchidism syndrome in an adult male complaining of primary infertility: Case report.

History of cryptorchidism is present in about 10% of infertile patients seeking medical help, whereas 20% of them are azoospermic. Most of the patients with bilateral cryptorchidism have a low testicular volume and high serum FSH level. Ectopic testes are present only in 5% of the patients with cryptorchidism. The anterior abdominal wall is a rare site for ectopic testis where Spigelian hernia is usually accompanied. We present a case of bilateral ectopic anterior abdominal wall testes associated with Spigelian hernia on the left side.
