PURPOSE: We present the main morphological modifications in the human gubernaculum during testicular migration in humans.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We obtained 12 gubernacula from fresh, macroscopically normal human fetuses at 15 to 29 weeks of gestation. Collagen was evidenced using trichrome and Sirius red staining procedures, while Weigert's resorcinol-fuchsin and anti-human elastin antibody were used to reveal elastic system fibers. Smooth muscle cells were detected by anti-human smooth muscle alpha-actin antibody.

OBJECTIVE: To report the overall success rate of a laparoscopic orchidopexy (LO) series over 5 years including over 100 procedures.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The records were reviewed of children who underwent laparoscopic procedures for an impalpable testis at our institutions. The laparoscopic procedures included the standard LO and one-stage and staged Fowler-Stephens (F-S) LOs. We investigated the effect of inguinal canal closure as a new mechanically induced cryptorchid rat model. The effectiveness of this new model was evaluated by histopathological examination. Thirty-one 21-day-old Wistar rats were divided into four groups. PURPOSE: We describe modified techniques of laparoscopic orchiopexy using 2 mm. instruments that enable straightforward delivery of the testis into the scrotum.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The preferred technique involves a radially dilating trocar advanced over the 2 mm. grasper placed antegrade through the new internal ring. The other method is similar but Amplatz dilators are used when a radially dilating trocar system is not available.
RESULTS: We used these techniques with complete success to deliver 18 testes into the scrotum.
CONCLUSIONS: The testis may be safely and effectively delivered

Gubernaculum testis and androgens play an important role in physiologic testicular descent. A direct androgen stimulation of the gubernaculum is only possible in the presence of specific receptors, which have not yet been demonstrated. PURPOSE: Laparoscopic orchiopexy is extremely effective for treating patients with nonpalpable testis. However, despite the high dissection and wide mobilization it allows in some cases, vessel length prevents the testis from reaching the scrotum. There have been only incidental cases reported in which laparoscopy has been used for vessel transection and testicular mobilization orchiopexy. Over the past 10 years, we have seen sixteen children (15 males and 1 female) with the prune-belly syndrome. We have managed 12 of these children, but 4 of them were never reviewed. Abdominal wall reconstruction was performed in 11 children by dissection of spermatic vessels and fixing the testis in the scrotum.
