A multidisciplinary FEVAR and stent graft repair to exclude mycotic aneurysms by interventional radiology and vascular surgery: Case report.

Mycotic pseudoaneurysms are rare arterial wall disruptions caused by infectious or inflammatory destruction of the vessel wall. They account for a small percentage, about 0.7%, of all aortic aneurysms. Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy for nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer has been associated with rare vascular complications, including infectious aortitis and pseudoaneurysm formation. We present a 69-year-old male with a history of intravesical BCG therapy who presented with severe bilateral flank and abdominal pain and was found to have multifocal pararenal aortic and left common iliac p

Prune Belly Syndrome Complicated by Congenital Urinary Fistula in a Neonate: A Case Report from Hargeisa Group Hospital, Hargeisa Somaliland.

BACKGROUND: Prune Belly Syndrome (PBS), also known as Eagle-Barrett syndrome, is an uncommon congenital disorder characterized by a combination of abdominal wall hypoplasia, urinary tract malformations, and bilateral cryptorchidism. The condition predominantly affects males and is frequently associated with significant neonatal morbidity and mortality related to renal and pulmonary complications. Congenital urinary fistula formation represents a particularly rare and complex manifestation of this syndrome. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 2-day-old male neonate presenting to a hospita

Diagnostic and Clinical Challenges of Hantavirus-Associated Acute Kidney Injury.

INTRODUCTION: Hantavirus infection is an uncommon zoonosis in Europe but remains an important cause of acute kidney injury, particularly in patients with environmental exposure to rodents. Renal involvement is the hallmark of the disease, although pulmonary manifestations may coexist and mimic immune-mediated pulmonary-renal syndromes, leading to diagnostic challenges in internal medicine. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 46-year-old previously healthy man living in a rural area was admitted for acute febrile illness with asthenia and myalgia. Initial investigations revealed severe thrombocytopenia and ac

Pseudo-renal failure with hyponatremia and proteinuria after gynecologic surgery: a case report with literature comparison.

BACKGROUND: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined by an increase in serum creatinine according to the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes criteria. In contrast, pseudo-renal failure is a rare condition characterized by azotemia and electrolyte imbalance that mimic AKI, while the actual renal function remains preserved. Because of its rarity and nonspecific presentation, pseudo-renal failure is often misdiagnosed as true AKI. We report a rare case of pseudo-renal failure caused by intraperitoneal bladder rupture following gynecologic surgery. This case is unique in that pseudo-renal failur

Fetal Hydronephrosis: A Narrative Review of Diagnostic Pathways, Prognostic Markers, and Management.

Fetal hydronephrosis is the most frequently detected prenatal urinary tract abnormality and encompasses a broad clinical spectrum, ranging from transient physiological dilation to clinically significant obstructive uropathy with potential long-term renal consequences. The broader term urinary tract dilation integrates renal pelvic and calyceal dilation with abnormalities of the renal parenchyma, ureters, bladder, and amniotic fluid volume, thereby supporting more comprehensive risk stratification. This narrative review synthesizes evidence on fetal urinary tract development, prenatal diagnosis

Expanded Phenotype of PAX2-Related Papillorenal Syndrome: A Case Featuring FSGS, Atypical Retinopathy, Cerebellar Hypoplasia, and ADHD.

Papillorenal syndrome (PAPRS), or renal coloboma syndrome, is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by PAX2 mutations. It classically manifests with renal hypodysplasia and optic nerve anomalies. However, recent literature suggests an expanding phenotypic spectrum. We report a 7-year-8-month-old boy born to consanguineous parents, presenting with stage 4 chronic kidney disease (CKD), nephrotic-range proteinuria, visual impairment, and ADHD. Renal biopsy revealed focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), and ocular examination showed bilateral peripheral scalloped chorioretinal atrophy wit

Approach to the diagnosis of bilateral ureteral transitional cell carcinoma in a cat.

A cat with bilateral ureteral obstruction and long-term urolithiasis that had been medically managed for a year was presented to the emergency department of our hospital. Severe azotemia and metabolic acidosis were identified. Ultrasonography and computed tomography supported a diagnosis of ureteral calculi, with no evidence of other underlying abnormalities. During exploratory laparotomy, irreversible renal failure secondary to bilateral ureteral obstruction was suspected, and euthanasia was elected. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examination of the ureters revealed tubulopapillary

Whole exome sequencing identifies three novel variants and establishes the molecular diagnosis of ATP6V0A4-related distal renal tubular acidosis in a lebanese infant.

BACKGROUND: Distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) is a rare inherited disorder characterized by impaired urinary acidification, leading to metabolic acidosis, hypokalemia, nephrocalcinosis, and growth impairment. Pathogenic variants in ATP6V0A4 are among the most common genetic causes of autosomal recessive dRTA. METHODS AND RESULTS: We report a Lebanese infant presenting with failure to thrive, recurrent vomiting, severe hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis, hypokalemia, and bilateral nephrocalcinosis, in whom whole-exome sequencing (WES) was performed to establish the molecular diagnosis and pe

Factors associated with spontaneous resolution and surgery in non-obstructive non-refluxing megaureters.

OBJECTIVES: Clinical and radiological criteria for predicting surgical approach or spontaneous resolution have been evaluated mainly in primary non-refluxing megaureters detected prenatally. We aimed to analyze these criteria in a retrospectively collected cohort of children with either prenatal or postnatal diagnosis of non-obstructive non-refluxing (NONR) megaureter. METHODS: Hospital files of the children with NONR megaureter were evaluated retrospectively for age at diagnosis, presenting complaint, follow-up period, accompanying urologic abnormalities, complications (renal scar and urinar

Urinary bladder agenesis presenting with bilateral pelviureteric junction obstruction in an infant: a rare urological anomaly.

Urinary bladder agenesis is an extraordinarily rare congenital anomaly, often associated with complex genitourinary malformations and poses significant diagnostic challenges in infancy. We report an infant girl with progressive abdominal distension, continuous urinary dribbling and bilateral hydronephrosis, ultimately found to have bladder agenesis with bilateral pelviureteric junction obstruction, ectopic ureteric insertion into the vagina and malrotated kidneys. Multimodality imaging, including ultrasonography, radionuclide diuretic renography with single-photon emission CT/CT and contrast-e

Concurrent Vascular and Pelvic Anomalies of the Kidney: A Rare Cadaveric Observation.

This case report describes the concurrent occurrence of rare renal vascular and pericalyceal variations and highlights their surgical significance. The renal vasculature and pelvis exhibit a wide spectrum of anatomical variations, many of which are clinically and surgically significant. Awareness of these deviations is of immense importance during retroperitoneal and renal surgeries and interventions. This report presents concurrent variations in both renal arteries and veins, as well as the renal pelvis, observed in a cadaver during routine dissection at the All India Institute of Medical Sci

An Asymptomatic 42-Year-Old Woman With Randomly Distributed Semicalcified Pulmonary Nodules.

A 42-year-old woman with a 25 pack-year smoking history, who quit 5 years prior to presentation, was referred to our outpatient clinic for reevaluation of multiple bilateral pulmonary nodules first identified 4 years earlier on chest computed tomography, performed following a self-limited flu-like illness with transient rash and nonproductive cough. Her symptoms resolved without intervention, and she remained clinically stable in the years that followed, with only occasional episodes of dry cough; however, the radiologic findings and her medical history prompted progressive diagnostic workup.

Prenatal and postnatal outcomes of foetal megacystis: What to expect when posterior urethral valves are excluded? A retrospective multicentre study.

BACKGROUND: Foetal megacystis (FM) may be associated with a wide range of conditions beyond posterior urethral valves (PUV). This study aimed to describe the outcomes of FM cases, excluding PUV, in order to better understand the long-term consequences of these conditions and improve prenatal counselling. METHODS: This retrospective multicentre study, conducted between 2009 and 2023, included pregnant women referred for suspected FM across three foetal medicine units. Patients with confirmed PUV, diagnosed either postnatally or through pathological examination following medical termination of

Incidental findings of ipsilateral agenesis of the ovary and fallopian tube during cesarean section delivery successfully managed in a resource-limited setting: a case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Unilateral agenesis of the ovary and fallopian tube is a rare reproductive anomaly that may occur with or without associated uterine malformations. Both variations have been reported in the literature. As patients are often asymptomatic, diagnosis typically occurs incidentally during surgery. This case presents a rare combination of ipsilateral ovarian and fallopian tube agenesis with a unicornuate uterus and normal bilateral kidneys. It underscores the need for a multidisciplinary approach involving obstetricians, neonatologists, and nursing care to improve matern
