A Preterm Infant with Feeding Aspiration Diagnosed with BOR Syndrome, Confirmed Case by Whole-Genome Sequencing and Structural Variant Calling.

Branchiootorenal (BOR) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant inherited disease with a prevalence of approximately 1 in 40,000 newborns. This disease is characterized by hearing loss, preauricular pits, branchial fistulas or cysts, and renal dysplasia. We discovered a case of BOR syndrome in a premature 2-week-old female infant with a gestational age of 32 weeks and two days. She and her family had major symptoms and a family history of BOR. BOR syndrome was confirmed by whole-genome sequencing and structural variant calling, which revealed an EYA1 exon 5-6 deletion. The infant had recurrent sl

Bainbridge-Ropers Syndrome in a Texan Boy: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Bainbridge-Ropers syndrome (BRPS) or additional sex combs-like 3 (ASXL3)-related disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by a de novo missense mutation in the ASXL3 gene found on chromosome 18. The number of BRPS cases recorded to date is less than 100. In this report, a six-year-old Texan boy with global developmental delay, aggressive behavior, insomnia, microcephaly, strabismus, facial dysmorphic features, vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), bilateral congenital renal dysplasia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hypotonia, failure to thrive, dysphagia, and status post-gastrostomy tu

OHVIRA syndrome: Early recognition prevents genitourinary complications.

INTRODUCTION: The obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA) syndrome is characterized by the triad uterus didelphys, obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal dysplasia. To make a radiological diagnosis, knowledge of this syndrome is of paramount importance. Early recognition may prevent complications such as unnecessary surgical procedures, endometriosis, and infections, which could adversely affect fertility. CASE REPORT: A 1-day-old female newborn in whom a right-sided cystic kidney abnormality was seen on antenatal ultrasound was admitted with anuria and intralabial

Predictive factors for survival in patients with oligohydramnios secondary to antenatal kidney disease.

BACKGROUND: Renal oligohydramnios (ROH) is caused by bilateral congenital abnormalities, either of renal parenchymal or obstructive origin. ROH is a poor prognostic factor of neonatal survival; lung hypoplasia is reported to be the main cause of mortality. We aimed to describe the fetal morbidity and pre- and postnatal mortality in case of ROH due to renal congenital pathologies and to find predictive risk factors for morbidity and mortality. METHODS: All data were collected in Trousseau Hospital in the obstetric, neonatology, and pediatric nephrology units, from 2008 to 2020. RESULTS: We in

Multiple vas deferens with polyorchidism and many congenital malformations in a symptomatic 11-year-old male patient: a rare case report.

BACKGROUND: Ductus deferens may manifest in a variety of anomalies such as its absence, duplication, ectopy, or diverticulum. Ectopic seminal tract opening has two main types, ectopic ejaculatory duct opening, and ectopic vas deferens opening. Generally, ductus deferens anomalies affect approximately 0.05% of the population. Patients may be asymptomatic or complaining of urinary tract infections and/or epididymitis. Most of these cases are associated with renal dysplasia. To confirm the diagnosis Cystourethroscopy catheterization and retrograde urethrogram should be performed, but the definiti

Prenatal diagnosis and genetic analysis of a fetus with Branchio-oto-renal syndrome: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Branchio-oto-renal (BOR) syndrome is an autosomal-dominant disorder characterized by branchial arch anomalies, hearing loss, and kidney defects. Mutations in the human EYA1 gene have been reported associated with BOR syndrome. Here we identified that a novel variant, EYA1: NM_000503.4: c.827-1G > C (Intron 8, shear mutation) was associated with BOR in a fetus of a Chinese family. CASE PRESENTATION: Prenatal ultrasound examination showed that both kidneys of the fetus were small and the echo of both kidneys was enhanced. The amount of amniotic fluid was normal, and no other structu

Variants in AQP11 may result in autosomal recessive bilateral cystic renal dysgenesis.

Congenital renal cystic dysplasia is a rare disease that occurs in approximately 1 in 4000 children and is often discovered in the antenatal period by ultrasound. It is commonly associated with oligohydramnios in utero and/or renal insufficiency or failure in the postnatal period. Aquaporins are membrane proteins that serve as transport channels in the transfer of water or small solutes across cell membranes. They play a role in the development of renal cysts. Aquaporin 11 (AQP11) deficient mice develop polycystic kidney disease in utero due to disruption of polycystin-1. Here we describe a ca

Renal Dysplasia with Hydronephrosis and Congenital Ureteral Stricture in Two Holstein-Friesian Calves.

We investigated the pathological characteristics of renal dysplasia with hydronephrosis and congenital ureteral stricture in two calves. Macroscopically, the affected kidneys were enlarged and the renal calyces were dilated and associated with ureteral strictures. Histopathologically, multifocal regions of mesenchyme were observed in the renal medulla. This mesenchyme was weakly eosinophilic with haematoxylin and eosin, blue with Alcian blue and pale blue with Masson's trichrome, and was immunopositive for vimentin and smooth muscle actin, consistent with persistent mesenchyme. There was async

Predictors of advanced chronic kidney disease in infancy after definitive vesicoamniotic shunting for congenital lower urinary tract obstruction.

BACKGROUND: Severe congenital lower urinary tract obstruction (cLUTO) is associated with poor postnatal outcomes, including chronic and end stage kidney disease, and high mortality. Studies of the impact of fetal intervention through vesicoamniotic shunting are marred by a device malfunction rate of up to 60%. In this study, we delineate the postnatal course and infant kidney function following definitive urinary diversion in utero. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective, single-center cohort study of 16 male infants who survived the fetal intervention to birth, from 2010 to 2014 at a

[Evaluation of isoflurane inhalation -anesthesia machines available in Switzerland for on farm piglet -castrations].

Since 2010, genomic selection in Swiss cattle breeding has led to significant progress in the two local Braunvieh populations, Brown Swiss and Original Braunvieh. However, it has also contributed to further inbreeding, leading to an increased risk of outbreaks of monogenic recessive defects. Some long-known inherited diseases such as arachnomelia, spinal muscular atrophy, spinal dysmyelination, Weaver syndrome and renal dysplasia are now of little clinical importance, while new haplotypes and gene variants associated with reproductive disorders have recently been described. These include so-ca

Contemporary diagnosis and management of pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction.

Pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction (PUJO) is defined as a functionally significant impairment of the flow of urine from the kidney's renal pelvis into the proximal ureter. Symptomatically, the patient may experience flank pain, recurrent infections, stone formation, and impairment of renal function. Although many cases of intrinsic PUJO are diagnosed at birth, a minority of patients may present in adulthood with previously silent disease or develop secondary PUJO to other causes. PUJO is therefore broadly categorised into both primary and secondary PUJO. A wide array of diagnostic scans and t

Radiological and surgical correlation of pelviureteric junction obstruction in positional anomalies of the kidney in children.

Pelviureteric junction obstruction, also known as ureteropelvic junction obstruction, is a congenital narrowing of the urinary excretory tract at the junction between the renal pelvis and the ureter and is a common cause of congenital pelvicalyceal dilatation. The outcome is variable, from spontaneous resolution to renal parenchymal function loss in cases of untreated high-grade obstruction. Abnormalities in renal ascent, rotation and vascularity can be associated with pelviureteric junction obstruction and easily overlooked radiologically. In this pictorial review, we explore the anatomical,

Hypertension crisis as the first symptom of renovascular hypertension in children.

BACKGROUND: Renovascular hypertension (RVH) is one of the main causes of hypertensive crisis (HTN-C). It is characterized by acute onset and severe disease, and early diagnosis and treatment are difficult. The objective was to describe the characteristics of RVH and factors associated with RVH leading to HTN-C in children. At present, there are few clinical studies on RVH in children with large cases in China. METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of inpatient children with RVH. Patients were divided into non-hypertensive crisis (non-HTN-C) group, and HTN-C group acco

Zinner's syndrome: Masquerading as pyonephrotic ectopic kidney.

Zinner's syndrome is a rare developmental anomaly of Wolffian duct, comprising a triad of seminal vesicle cyst, ipsilateral renal agenesis and ejaculatory duct obstruction, first described by Zinner in 1914. Several aberrations have been reported like renal dysplasia, ectopic ureteric orifice in one of the derivatives of Wolffian duct. Usually it presents in second to fourth decade of life with symptoms of urinary bladder irritation/obstruction, cyst distension, ejaculatory duct obstruction. The diagnosis is principally based on imaging studies, usually confirmed by MRI. Treatment is based upo
