AIM: New diagnostic strategies for evaluation of the kidney by fast MR imaging techniques.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A comprehensive morphologic and functional evaluation of the kidney is proposed using fast MR imaging of renal morphology, multiphase 3D gadolinium MR angiography, MR urography and MR flow measurements. BACKGROUND: Retroperitoneoscopic surgery was performed on a 41-year-old man with a retrocaval ureter.
METHODS: The retrocaval segment of the ureter was retroperitoneoscopically separated and the ureter was reanastomosed using an automatic suture device.
RESULTS/DISCUSSION: He returned to normal activities four days postoperatively. Postoperative excretory urography showed improvement of hydronephrosis and no residual stenosis.

The manifestations of polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) are varied, but urological abnormalities other than ureteric stenosis and orchitis have not been described. We report a case of hepatitis B-associated PAN with bilateral hydronephrosis without obstruction. Retrograde urography conclusively demonstrated the absence of obstruction. OBJECTIVE: To improve the diagnosis of retrocaval ureter.
METHOD: 20 cases of retrocaval ureter with an average age of 33.4 years were reported. The diagnosis of this disease depends on urography and retrograde ureterography. Operation was the principal treatment. Ureter orthopedics and reduction were performed in 19 cases of type 1 (low loop) except one case of type II (high loop). After removing 3 - 4 cm retrocaval ureter with pathological changes, we anastomosed the ureter without tension and regained its normal anatomic position.

BACKGROUND: Urinary tract reconstruction is required in many congenital and some acquired urological conditions in childhood. The majority are managed by clean intermittent catheterization (CIC), for which purpose the appendix or other tubular structure may be used to provide a continent catheterizable abdominal stoma.

Four variants of segmentary dysplasia in paravesical ureter are described: segmentary aplasia, segmentary atresia, segmentary hypoplasia, fibrous block. Megalourethra was described originally by Nesbitt as a rare congenital abnormally characterized by dilation of the peneal urethra. This defect has been classified as scaphoid or fusiform deformity. 11 children were treated in our hospital from 1987 to 1990 for the congenital urological defomities. They were diagnosed prenatally and were treated early after birth, and 5 of them were compared with 28 children who had been treated in the same hospital in the same stage for hydronephrosis due to the congenital pelvic-ureter stenosis, that was not prenatally diagnosed. Analysis of a series of renal functional test, special methods and clinical study, showed the possibility of prenatal diagnosis and the necessary of early treatment of congenital urological deformities.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of our study was to assess renal helical CT (RHCT) as the primary imaging technique in the evaluation of potential kidney donors.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Unenhanced and enhanced (3-mm collimation) RHCT was performed in 154 kidney donors using 125-150 ml of i.v. contrast material at an injection rate of 3 or 4 ml/sec and a pitch of 1.3-2. Scans were reconstructed at 1.5-mm intervals for a three-dimensional image. RHCT images were compared with the results of renal arteriography (RA) (50 subjects) and surgery (117 subjects).
RESULTS: CT and surgical findings agreed in 95%
