We recently treated one female infant and two young girls with coincidence of three anomalies: --hypoplastic ectopic kidney; --single vaginal ectopic ureter; --ipsilateral genital abnormality. Thirteen cases (20 ureters) of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) associated with neurogenic bladder, treated with anti-reflux operation are reviewed. Twelve of the 13 cases had meningomyelocele and 1 had spina bifida occulta as an underlying disease. The type of neurogenic bladder was hypoactive detrusor-active sphincter in 11 patients and hypoactive detrusor-hypoactive sphincter in 2 patients. Vesicoureteric reflux (VUR) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in children with neuropathic bladders secondary to myelomeningocoele. The majority deteriorate with age and early treatment is necessary to avoid this. Endoscopic subureteric Teflon injection ("STING") allows correction of reflux in small children who would otherwise be difficult to manage. Forty two TUU have been performed from 1974 to 1986 in children and young adults: the youngest was 10 years, the oldest 26. The mean follow-up has been more than 5 years: 23 bladder exstrophies, 12 neurogenic bladders, 5 mega-ureters and 2 retroperitoneal tumors. TUU were performed after failure of uretero-cysto-neostomies (8/42) ou uretero-sigmoid reimplantation (19/42). The technique with details about drainage (16/42) is described. From 1981 to 1987, the authors observed 69 patients with ureteropelvic junction obstruction diagnosed by antenatal ultrasound, representing a total of 77 pathological renal units. Seventy renal units were treated by ureteropelvic resection, one renal unit returned to normal without treatment. There were 3 primary nephrectomies and 3 secondary nephrectomies for non-improvement after percutaneous nephrostomy. An early antenatal surgical management of ureteropelvic obstruction after antenatal ultrasound diagnosis does not seem to give better results than when diagnosis is made at a later stage. T

A new method for urinary diversion to the rectum was elaborated in animal experiments and currently has been used in 19 patients. Reflux of the rectal content to the colon and to the upper urinary tract is prevented by the fashioning of an intussusception valve at the rectosigmoid junction. The rectum is augmented by anastomosing an ileal patch to the anterior rectal wall. A transverse colostomy protects the construction for 6 to 8 weeks. A deletion of the long arm of chromosome 9(pter----q32:) in a newborn infant at 38 weeks of gestation was associated with a syndrome of arrhinencephaly, rudimentary ears, hypoplastic lungs and ureters, redundant nuchal skin folds, and congenital heart defects. Other findings included a Sydney line, macrocephaly, talipes equinovarus, oligohydramnios, and amnion nodosum. Detailed pathologic observations and the chromosome abnormality are described.

Two cases of ureteral triplication are reported, on in a child of 4 years the other in a 2-week-old baby. In both cases the triplication was associated with one or two ureteroceles. A literature review is used as a basis for describing the characteristics of this rare malformation.

We performed suprapubic percutaneous urography in two patients to diagnose unusual duplication anomalies of the urinary tract, since preoperative diagnosis was unclear after routine noninvasive studies. In both patients standard suprapubic puncture technique was employed. The procedure was used to confirm the diagnosis of duplication of the bladder in one case and to establish the site of origin of a ureterocele in the other. The technique employed in suprapubic cystography may be extended to the diagnosis of unusual cystic abnormalities in the pelvis that may be of urinary tract origin.

Numerous inherited and congenital disorders may affect the urinary system of cats. Those associated with clinical signs include renal dysplasia, renal hypoplasia, polycystic kidneys, ectopic ureters, urachal anomalies, and fistulas between the lower urinary tract and other structures. Acquired disorders of the urinary system of immature cats have been uncommonly recognized. Further studies are warranted to better define their prevalence in immature cats.

19 specimen of pathologically proved multicystic kidneys were opacified; first through the ureter and second, if the ureter was not patent, through a puncture of one of the cysts (or several if the first cyst did not communicate with the ureter or with other cysts). The vesicourachal diverticulum in association with other urological anomalies is a rare condition. It is easily demonstrated by ultrasound examination. We report a rare case of vesicourachal diverticulum in association with a large posterior bladder diverticulum; the latter obstructing the trigone of the bladder, and with the ureter of a right solitary ectopic and hydronephrotic kidney draining into it. Diagnosis was initially made by ultrasound and later confirmed by cystography. A CT examination was also supplementary. The literature on vesicourachal diverticulum is briefly reviewed.

Congenital seminal vesicle cysts represent a rare but illustrative type of embryological malformation. They often are combined with ipsilateral upper urinary tract abnormalities. In most of the cases described in the literature the diagnosis has been made with rather invasive procedures. On the basis of our experience with 3 cases we recommend pelvic ultrasonography as the initial study in patients in whom such a malformation is suspected. Although other radiological procedures may be required to confirm the diagnosis, this approach appears to be cost-effective and accurate in most instances.

The occurrence of nodular renal blastema and renal dysplasia was determined in a retrospective study of 75 cases of congenital obstructive uropathy.
