BACKGROUND: To demonstrate and analyze the 18F-FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) findings in this rare nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS).
CASE PRESENTATION: A 71-year-old woman with the left invasive breast cancer was treated with hormone therapy for six months and underwent the 18F-FDG PET/CT examination for efficacy evaluation. 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed the improvement after treatment and other unexpected findings, including multiple nodules on the skin with 18F-FDG uptake, bone expansion of cystic lesions in the bilateral ribs, ectopic calcifications an

BACKGROUND: Crossed fused renal ectopia (CFRE) is a common congenital anomaly where one kidney is positioned abnormally on the opposite side of the midline, often fused with the other kidney. However, single ureter draining crossed fused renal ectopia is a rare occurrence.
CASE REPORT: Here, we report a case of crossed fused renal ectopia with a single ureter in a 46-year-old Nepali male who presented with history of lithuria. Computed tomography revealed that the left kidney was situated on the right side and fused with the right kidney. The renal pelvises of both kidneys were fused, and a s

Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is caused by balanced translocation t(9::22)(q34;q11) resulting in formation of pathogenic BCR-ABL fusion gene. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) have revolutionised the treatment of CML. Ongoing treatment with TKI leads to side effects and has financial impact. Teratogenic potential of TKI and growth disturbance also represent an important challenge. Thus, TKI discontinuation in form of treatment free remission (TFR) has emerged as a new and important therapeutic goal. In this retrospective study, we reviewed CML patients who were kept on TFR. Inclusion criteria

OBJECTIVE: To report a rare, misleading fibroid degeneration involving a nonfunctional, noncommunicating horn in a woman with a unicornuate uterus. Although the presence of a functional rudimentary horn may lead to signs and symptoms that recommend its removal, nonfunctional cases are rarely reported, and because of their apparent functional inactivity, the need for their removal has not yet been reported. No previous report showed the possibility of a degenerative process in a nonfunctional rudimentary horn causing patient discomfort.
DESIGN: This is a step-by-step narrated video showing a u

AIMS: Current guidelines advise against the use of lipid-lowering drugs during pregnancy. This is based only on previous observational evidence demonstrating an association between statin use and congenital malformations, which is increasingly controversial. In the absence of clinical trial data, we aimed to use drug-target Mendelian randomization to model the potential impact of fetal LDL-lowering, overall and through PCSK9 drug targets, on congenital malformations.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Instrumental variants influencing LDL levels overall and through PCSK9-inhibitor drug targets were extract

Complex congenital lacrimal drainage anomalies are known to be associated with several syndromes and present unique surgical challenges. Duplication of human body structures is uncommon and has been reported in the uterus (uterine didelphys), ureter (duplex ureter), duodenum, transverse colon, and nose. Lacrimal drainage anomalies have been reported in proboscis lateralis. To the best of the authors' knowledge, there are no prior reports on duplication of the lacrimal sac. The present case reports a complex congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction that was associated with duplication of the la

Congenital malformations of the urogenital system with fully developed duplications, such as urinary bladder, are sporadic. They are often present in the setting of endogenous molecular disbalance, such as steroid metabolism disturbances. Other rare manifestations of hormonal disbalance present as intersex conditions in which the individual has karyotype-specific internal genital organs with opposite-sex signs of the external genitalia, known as ambiguous genitalia. Congenital variations and malformations are often fully recognized and understood during radiological exams. Herein we present a

PURPOSE: The use of postoperative prophylactic antibiotics in pediatric upper urinary tract reconstruction remains controversial. In this study, we examined whether low dose antibiotics administered following pediatric pyeloplasty reduce the incidence of febrile urinary tract infections at our institution. As a secondary outcome, in those patients with infection, additional analysis was performed to better quantify which patient population benefits the most from low dose prophylactic antibiotics.
METHODS: Institutional review board approval (IRB) was obtained. All methods were carried out in

Background: During the management of patients with hydronephrosis, a possibility of retrocaval ureter (RCU) may emerge indicated by a fish-hook sign or its mimickers. Owing to infrequent incidence, the proper way to diagnose or exclude an RCU is challenging and has not been discussed previously. Methods: The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the children who were suspected to have an RCU during management for urinary tract dilation. An RCU may be missed or misdiagnosed owing to rare incidence. Results: The children with urinary tract dilation in whom RCU was considered are enro

INTRODUCTION: Zinner syndrome is a rare congenital abnormality defined by a clinical triad of unilateral renal agenesis, ipsilateral seminal vesicle cyst, and ipsilateral ejaculatory duct obstruction.
CASE PRESENTATION: Most patients are asymptomatic, but if the cystic dilatation of the seminal vesicle becomes significant, it can result in urinary symptoms such as dysuria and urinary retention. This rare developmental anomaly related to mesonephric duct can also present with other abnormalities.
CONCLUSION: Here, we report our experience of Zinner syndrome with bladder outlet obstruction and

BACKGROUND: Ductus deferens may manifest in a variety of anomalies such as its absence, duplication, ectopy, or diverticulum. Ectopic seminal tract opening has two main types, ectopic ejaculatory duct opening, and ectopic vas deferens opening. Generally, ductus deferens anomalies affect approximately 0.05% of the population. Patients may be asymptomatic or complaining of urinary tract infections and/or epididymitis. Most of these cases are associated with renal dysplasia. To confirm the diagnosis Cystourethroscopy catheterization and retrograde urethrogram should be performed, but the definiti

BACKGROUND: Zinner syndrome (ZS), the association of congenital seminal vesicle cyst (SVC) and ipsilateral kidney anomalies, is rarely diagnosed in childhood. This study aimed to assess presentation, imaging findings, management, and outcome of pediatric ZS.
METHODS: Sixteen children with ZS were diagnosed and managed at our hospital from 2003 to 2021. We reviewed the medical records to collect data on initial symptoms, results of imaging studies, complications, operation, and follow-up.
RESULTS: Ultrasound was used in all 16 cases as initial diagnostic tool. Fourteen patients were asymptoma

BACKGROUND: Retrocaval ureter is a rare congenital anomaly resulting from anomalous development of inferior vena cava (IVC) and not from anomalous of the ureter. The anomaly always occurs on the right side due to regression of right supracardinal vein and persistence of right posterior cardinal vein. Retrocaval ureter tends to be associated with various vena cava anomalies because of the embryogenesis. We aimed to identify the prevalence of associated congenital venous anomalies (CVA) resulting from cardinal vein development in adults with retrocaval ureter using computed tomography (CT) image

BACKGROUND Encrustation of the ureteral stent is a common complication that occurs after a prolonged indwelling duration. Other identified risk factors in the literature include urinary sepsis, chemotherapy, chronic renal failure, metabolic or congenital abnormalities, and nephrolithiasis. This report presents the case of a 39-year-old man with nephrolithiasis and fragmentation of a calcified right ureteric stent that required ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy. CASE REPORT A 39-year-old man was initially admitted for ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy after the diagnosis of bilateral urolithi

ALG8 protein-truncating variants (PTVs) have previously been described in patients with polycystic liver disease and in some cases cystic kidney disease. Given a lack of well-controlled studies, we determined whether individuals heterozygous for ALG8 PTVs are at increased risk of cystic kidney disease in a large, unselected health system-based observational cohort linked to electronic health records in Pennsylvania (Geisinger-Regeneron DiscovEHR MyCode study). Out of 174,172 patients, 236 were identified with ALG8 PTVs. Using ICD-based outcomes, patients with these variants were significantly

INTRODUCTION: and importance: Bilateral complete ureteral duplication is a rare urinary tract abnormality and presence of unilateral ectopic ureter makes it a rarest entity. Continuous urinary dribbling with normal voiding pattern and recurrent UTI are frequent presenting complains in case of ectopic ureter. Long term childhood problem of urinary incontinence with delayed diagnosis in adult in this case makes it a perfect case to report.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present a case of 17-year-old girl with continuous urinary dribbling and constant wetting with normal voiding pattern since childhoo

IMPORTANCE: The prevalence and importance of congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) in preterm infants is unknown.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of CAKUT in preterm infants and association with in-hospital morbidity and mortality.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This cohort study included infants cared for in neonatal intensive care units managed by a large US network of hospitals and doctors. Eligible participants were infants born at 23 to 33 weeks' gestation between 2000 and 2020. Infants transferred from or to other health care facilities prior to discha

A ureterocele is a rare congenital anomaly with cystic dilation of the terminal segment of the ureter entirely within the bladder (orthotopic) or associated with ectopic ureter (ectopic). Its aetiology has not been fully clarified; however, it may involve genetic or acquired factors. Urothelial carcinoma (UC) is the most common type of canine urinary tract neoplasm, among which over 90% of cases are invasive. The non-papillary (flat) non-infiltrating form accounts for a very small percentage of canine UCs and is considered carcinoma in situ (CIS). The neoplastic cells of CIS remain within the

Pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction (PUJO) is defined as a functionally significant impairment of the flow of urine from the kidney's renal pelvis into the proximal ureter. Symptomatically, the patient may experience flank pain, recurrent infections, stone formation, and impairment of renal function. Although many cases of intrinsic PUJO are diagnosed at birth, a minority of patients may present in adulthood with previously silent disease or develop secondary PUJO to other causes. PUJO is therefore broadly categorised into both primary and secondary PUJO. A wide array of diagnostic scans and t

Bladder agenesis is a rare congenital anomaly infrequently reported in the literature, with an incidence of 1/600,000 patients.1 Commonly associated with other fatal malformations, the condition is often incompatible with life.2 Prior reports estimate that over 90% of living children born with this malformation are female, owing to renal preservation resulting from low pressure drainage of urine into the vagina, uterus, and vestibule.3,4 Herein we report a rare case of an infant male born with penoscrotal transposition and end stage renal disease secondary to bilateral cystic renal dysplasia f
