Unilateral absence of the pulmonary artery, patent ductus arteriosus, and ectopic Kidney: A multimedia case report.

This report describes a rare case of unilateral absence of the right pulmonary artery (UAPA) with several artery malformations, patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), and an ectopic kidney. A 65-year-old male with arrhythmia underwent chest computed tomographic angiography (CTA), which revealed an absence of the right pulmonary artery with increased tortuous vascular shadows in the right lung hilum. The patient underwent PDA at the age of 13. An ectopic left kidney was detected via urinary ultrasound. This anomaly in adults requires treatment according to symptoms, and there is often no commonly acce

Prenatal diagnosis of fetuses with renal abnormalities: a retrospective analysis of 329 Chinese cases.

BACKGROUND: There is no clear guidance on prenatal diagnostic testing strategies for congenital renal anomalies. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the retrospective analysis of ultrasound and genetic diagnostic results in cases of fetal renal abnormalities and to establish genotype-phenotype correlations. METHODS: A total of 329 fetuses with renal abnormalities that underwent prenatal diagnostic testing from January 2020 to April 2023 were recruited in this study. These cases were classified into 11 subgroups based on their ultrasound diagnosis. All cases underwent chromosomal microar

[Application of chromosomal microarray analysis in the prenatal diagnosis of fetuses with isolated Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the detection rate of copy number variations (CNVs) in fetuses with isolated Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) and pregnancy outcomes in order to provide a basis for genetic counseling. METHODS: One hundred and eighty eight fetuses who underwent chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) due to isolated CAKUT detected by prenatal ultrasonography at Qingdao Women and Children's Hospital from January 2021 to December 2024 were selected as the study subjects. According to the ultrasound findings, the fetuses were divided into 8 groups, including renal

Acute obstructive pyelonephritis revealing a crossed non-fused renal ectopia in the early postpartum period: A case report.

Non-fused crossed renal ectopia (CRE) is a rare congenital anomaly where one kidney migrates contralaterally without fusion. We report a 31-year-old woman presenting nine days postpartum with febrile abdominal pain revealing a left non-fused crossed ectopic kidney complicated by bilateral ureterohydronephrosis and acute pyelonephritis. Management involved bilateral ureteral stenting and antibiotic therapy with favorable recovery. This case highlights the potential for pregnancy-related physiological changes to unmask previously silent renal anomalies and underscores the diagnostic importance o

Management of Giant Bilateral Adrenal Myelolipomas in Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia.

Adrenal myelolipomas are rare, benign lesions containing mature adipose tissue and hematopoietic elements, typically identified incidentally on radiographic imaging. Management of small masses less than 5 cm usually requires no intervention, whereas those exceeding 6 cm in size are classified as "giant" and can cause mass effect and potentially fatal hemorrhage. Surgery must be considered for masses deemed at risk to cause complications. A 44-year-old man with a history of congenital adrenal hyperplasia presented with giant bilateral adrenal myelolipomas, which on computed tomography (CT) imag

Ectopic Kidney Masquerading as a Pelvic Mass: A Case Report.

Renal ectopia is a congenital anomaly caused by abnormal migration of the kidneys during the process of embryogenesis. Under typical development, the kidneys ascend to the lumbar region during the early gestational period. A failure in this process can result in ectopic kidneys, most commonly found in the pelvis. Although often asymptomatic, pelvic kidneys can be complicated by pelviureteric junction obstruction (PUJO), infection, reflux, or malrotation in a few cases. We present a rare case of a pelvic kidney with PUJO presenting as a lower abdominal mass in an elderly female. A 60-year-old f

Three-dimensional Laparoscopic Management of a Large Prostatic Utricle Cyst in a 6-month-old Boy: An Efficient Minimally Invasive Approach.

Prostatic utricle cysts (PUCs) in males with normal external genitalia are rare and often asymptomatic. Minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as laparoscopic excision, have demonstrated effectiveness for symptomatic cases. This report highlights the advantages of a three-dimensional (3D) laparoscopic approach in managing a large PUC in a 6-month-old boy. A 6-month-old male presenting with urinary obstruction and recurrent infections underwent diagnostic imaging and isotope renography, revealing a large PUC with associated nonfunctioning right ectopic kidney and ureter opening in the cys

An Ectopic Polycystic Kidney With Embryological and Clinical Significance: A Cadaveric Case Report.

Renal ectopia is a rare and usually asymptomatic anomaly. We report a cadaveric case of a 70-year-old male with the right pelvic polycystic kidney with two pairs of renal vessels and a curved right common iliac artery, observed during the routine dissection of the cadaver at a teaching institute. An ectopic kidney extended from the L4 to S1 vertebral levels. Its arterial supply consisted of a superior renal artery arising from the abdominal aorta just inferior to the origin of the inferior mesenteric artery, and an inferior renal artery originating from the aortic bifurcation. Similarly, venou

Pancake kidney in infant: A case report with literature review.

Pancake kidney (PK) is a rare anomaly, accounting for only 2% of all cases of fused kidneys. In this condition, the renal pelvis faces anteriorly, the ureters do not cross, and the collecting systems of the kidneys are separate, with no communication between the 2 sides. The PK may be associated with various urinary tract defects and anomalies in other organs. This report presents a case of an infant diagnosed with pelvic PK accompanied by ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction and an undescended right testis, representing an exceedingly rare combination of conditions. A 2-month-old male inf

Right renal ectopia following major weight loss.

Presenting with severe stomach pain from sigmoid volvulus, a woman in her 90s was effectively treated with colonoscopic desufflation. Interestingly, serial imaging over 16 years demonstrated gradual cranial displacement of the right kidney to the hepato-diaphragmatic space without prior trauma, surgery or congenital abnormalities. The patient remained asymptomatic with respect to renal function despite significant anatomical displacement. No specific intervention was required for the ectopic kidney. It is important to recognise the potential for organ migration associated with ageing, signific

Malrotation of Kidney Ectopia and Spontaneous Renal Vein Thrombosis.

Renal ectopia and malrotation are uncommon congenital anomalies that arise from abnormal kidney ascent and rotation during embryologic development. Although often discovered incidentally, these structural variations may alter venous drainage and predispose to stasis and thrombosis. Renal vein thrombosis (RVT) is rare in adults and usually occurs secondary to nephrotic syndrome, malignancy, dehydration, or hypercoagulable disorders. The coexistence of renal malrotation, ectopia, and spontaneous RVT in an otherwise healthy adult is exceptionally unusual. A 35-year-old woman presented with severe

Revisiting the Neuropsychological and Clinical Profile of Mosaic Turner Syndrome With a Ring X Chromosome.

Determining karyotype-phenotype correlations for individuals with Turner syndrome ("TS individuals") is a longstanding research endeavor. The limited literature on Turner syndrome (TS) with a ring X chromosome hinders counseling about the neuropsychological and clinical features. To further characterize these phenotypes, we compared 27 TS individuals with 46,X,r(X)/45,X ("ring X") to 50 non-mosaic 45,X, and 27 mosaic 45,X/46,XX ("mosaic 45,X") individuals. This retrospective cohort study of 104 individuals reported on cardiac and renal malformations, endocrine and neuropsychological conditions

Crossed fused renal ectopia diagnosed in an adult: Case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Crossed fused renal ectopia is one of the rare congenital anomalies in which a kidney is found on the side opposite to its normal anatomical location and is fused with the contralateral kidney. Most patients are asymptomatic and diagnosed incidentally. CASE PRESENTATION: In this case report we present a 60 year old woman diagnosed with a left to right crossed fused renal ectopia with fusion of the left kidney to the inferior pole of the right kidney. The patient presented with vague abdominal pain and diagnosis was made with abdominal ultrasound and CT urography.

Diabetes mellitus in Kabuki syndrome 1 on a background of post-transplant diabetes mellitus.

SUMMARY: Kabuki syndrome is a genetic disorder characterised by distinctive facial features, developmental delays, and multisystem congenital anomalies. Endocrine complications such as premature thelarche and short stature are common, whereas disorders of glycaemic control are less frequent. We describe a 23-year-old white female referred to the diabetes clinic for hyperglycaemia during haemodialysis. She was subsequently diagnosed with Kabuki syndrome based on characteristic clinical features, confirmed by detecting a heterozygous pathogenic variant in KMT2D. She was known to have had multipl
