BACKGROUND: The ectopic pelvic kidney, a common renal anomaly, is often smaller and malformed, with a shorter and sometimes tortuous ureter (1). Muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), constituting 15-25% of bladder cancer cases (2), mandates radical cystectomy with a 50% 5-year survival rate (2). Despite the growing use of robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) (3, 4), there is limited data on its application in ectopic kidneys. Only one RARC case has been reported (5), in contrast to numerous open radical cystectomies (1, 6) involving an ectopic kidney.

An ectopic ureter (EU) is a ureter that does not connect appropriately to the bladder and drains somewhere other than the urinary bladder. Ectopic ureter is not so common in kidney anomalies. In men, the EU usually opens near the prostate into the urethra; however, in females, it mainly opens into organs of reproduction or into the urethra. Differential diagnosis of urinary incontinence from other causes, such as EU has a potential cure through surgery. Most women with ectopic ureters have duplex kidneys. An EU emptying a single-system ectopic dysplastic but functioning kidney is uncommon, esp

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Ectopic pelvic kidneys are an extremely rare congenital renal system anomaly. This embryological occurrence transpires between the 4th and 8th gestational weeks, and is seen in 1 in every 2100-3000 births. Moreover, research articles indicate an incidence of ectopic pelvic kidneys ranging from 0.033 to 0.047%. The co-occurrence of this anomaly with an abdominal aortic aneurysm is an even rarer finding.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a rare case involving a 62-year-old Middle Eastern male with a right ectopic pelvic kidney. The condition initially manifested as vague

This report explores the diverse spectrum of congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT), ranging from asymptomatic presentations to the most severe form characterized by bilateral renal agenesis. Genitourinary anomalies, a prevalent subset within this domain, account for a significant proportion, constituting 15-20% of anomalies identified during prenatal screening. An ectopic kidney is defined by the presence of an empty renal fossa and the displacement of the kidney from the lumbar region to alternative locations, with the pelvic region emerging as the most prevalent site.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Renal ectopia, a rare congenital anomaly, can occur in various body regions and may be associated with other abnormalities. It is often asymptomatic, commonly found incidentally, as in our 70-year-old patient during appendicitis exploration. This case highlights the importance of recognizing renal ectopia and associated anomalies, such as vascular abnormalities and renal malrotation, which may predispose patients to potential complications and require vigilant monitoring for urinary tract infections and lithiasis events, as well as potential challenges during lapar

Urothelial tumors in patients with anatomical abnormalities may pose significant challenges. Management follows the same principles which are employed in normal anatomy, however, thorough diagnostic investigation is warranted in order to delineate key anatomical landmarks. Meticulous pre-operative investigation should utilize every imaging modality which can assist the surgeons. We present a case of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) in a crossed-fused kidney treated with nephro-ureterectomy. Only a handful of cases of TCC in CFRE have been reported. The case demonstrates the critical role of p

This case report presents a rare occurrence of isolated bladder exstrophy with a normal phallus in a one-day-old male newborn. The patient also presented with imperforated anus, congenital heart disease, and a left ectopic kidney. Surgical interventions included cut-back anoplasty, bilateral ureteral reimplantation, and primary bladder closure in a single operation, resulting in a successful outcome without complications. Three months of follow-up showed satisfactory results.

Bochdalek hernia is an inherited posterior lateral defect in the diaphragm that allows the abdominal organs to herniate into the thoracic cavity. In addition to being the most prevalent variety of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), it is also the type that is observed on the left hemithorax the majority of the time. Ectopic kidney is an uncommon condition, and the occurrence of ectopic intrathoracic kidney is even more uncommon, accounting for only a few of all the cases of renal ectopias. The occurrence of intrathoracic kidney associated with Bochdalek hernia is infrequent among adult ind

An ectopic kidney is often found inadvertently during CT, ultrasonography, MRI, or urologic physical examination. Ectopic kidneys usually occur in the pelvis. A pelvic ectopic kidney may be misinterpreted for a pelvic tumor by less experienced physicians and surgeons. We present an extremely rare case of ectopic kidney in the deep subcutaneous region of the abdominal wall and associated with the additional abnormality of spina bifida. MRI found an ectopic kidney but failed to identify ureteropelvic drainage. Diuretic renography with 99mTc-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid showed normal functi

We report a case of a 57 years old woman with a solitary mass located in the pelvis diagnosed as an extrarenal papillary renal cell carcinoma, in the absence of a primary renal cancer. The diagnosis was based on cytomorphological features and further confirmed by immunochemistry findings following surgical excision. The hypothesis of a tumor developing in a supernumerary or ectopic kidney was excluded, since no normal renal tissue could be identified in the specimen and in the preoperative computed tomography and MRI images.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORATNCE: Introduction: Bochdalek's hernia (BH) is a congenital diaphragmatic hernia predominantly diagnosed in the pediatric population but infrequently found in adults. This paper presents a unique case of an adult patient with a left-sided BH accompanied by gastric volvulus and an intrathoracic kidney.
CASE OF PRESENTATION: A 21-year-old male presented with abdominal pain and vomiting. An MDCT scan revealed a twisted stomach, spleen, and kidney herniated into the chest due to left diaphragmatic eventration. Surgery involved untwisting the stomach, relocating the organs,

We report a case of a child who presented clinically with features of nephrotic syndrome and May-Thurner syndrome consecutively in the first decade of life. Initially, the nephrotic syndrome was diagnosed and treated. May-Thurner syndrome was suspected clinically in later childhood when there was remission of nephrotic syndrome with persistent left lower leg swelling. The specific imaging modalities are used to document the mechanical compression of the left common iliac vein by the lower abdominal ectopic left kidney before definite management. Our discussion highlights the role of various im

BACKGROUND: Ectopic renal hydronephrosis is a relatively rare condition, with literature primarily consisting of scattered case studies. The ectopic kidney poses technical challenges to surgeons due to its structural and anatomical abnormalities. This study aims to share our initial experiences with minimally invasive pyeloplasty as a management approach for ectopic renal hydronephrosis in adult patients.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Between August 2018 and January 2023, six patients underwent minimally invasive pyeloplasty for ectopic kidneys. The patient cohort consisted of four individuals with pelvi

(1) Background: Crossed fused renal ectopia is a rare migration and fusion renal anomaly, more frequently affecting males, with an incidence of between 1:2000 and 1:7500 observed at autopsy. (2) Case presentation: This paper presents the case of a 34-year-old woman, IIIG IIIP, who presented to our clinic for a first-trimester screening evaluation. The risk calculation was performed using the Fetal Medicine Foundation's first-trimester screening software, version 2.8.1. The screening indicated a low risk for aneuploidies, but the ultrasound scan revealed an empty right renal fossa in the standa

INTRODUCTION: To evaluate the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of different pyeloplasty procedure approaches for pelvicureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction in kidney anomalies. The presence of difficult, unfamiliar and anomalous anatomy makes pyeloplasty challenging in these conditions.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of pyeloplasty in patients with congenital anomalous kidneys at our national tertiary referral centre. Seventeen patients who had pyeloplasty for PUJ obstruction from December 2013 to July 2019 were included.
RESULTS: Seventeen cases had anomalous
