Kidney development is a complex process that begins during the fifth to ninth weeks of life. Different types of renal congenital anomalies exist; however, they are rare and usually asymptomatic. Renal ectopia is a rare malformation that affects 0.01-0.05% of patients. Of all the locations, the most frequent is the pelvic (55%). We present a case of a 21-year-old man with bilateral renal ectopia.

BACKGROUND: The objective of our study was to share the experience of the ectopic ureter and to characterize associated clinical features, medical images, and management.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 13 cases of ectopic ureter confirmed by surgery. The gender, age, abnormal urinary leakage, the site of the ectopic ureter, renal dysplasia, and surgical methods of the patients were compared and analyzed.

The thoracic kidney is the rarest form of renal ectopia. Furthermore, it is usually asymptomatic and discovered incidentally. It is seen as a mass in the posterior mediastinum or juxta-diaphragmatic on chest radiography. A computed tomography scan or magnetic resonance imaging is usually needed for a definitive diagnosis. The thoracic kidney typically exits the retroperitoneal space through the foramen of Bochdalek.
