A Capillaria sp. was recovered from the kidneys of 28 (93.3%) of 30 small Indian mongooses (Herpestes auropunctus) collected in St. Lucia, West Indies. The nematodes were embedded within distended pelvic fornices of the kidney and surrounded by accumulations of eggs. A chronic, low-level inflammation of the transitional epithelium was characterized by hyperplasia, giant cells surrounding embedded eggs and a plasmacytic infiltration. This is the first record of a capillarid nematode from the kidney of the mongoose.

Biochemical and morphologic studies on a patient with homocystinuria due to a deficiency of 5, 10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (EC. 1.1.1.68) were performed. The concentrations of homocystine in the patient's plasma and urine were 2.97 mumol/dl and 44.67 mumol/24 hr, respectively. Activities of 5, 10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (expressed as nanomoles of formaldehyde formed per hr per mg of protein) in cultured skin fibroblasts and liver tissue were 0.53 (control: 5.14) and 0.00 (control: 13.80), respectively. The resorption of experimental murine amyloidosis induced by Freund's adjuvant was studied over a period of 45 weeks. Three weeks after cessation of the injections splenic amyloid was found in 56·4 per cent of the animals and hepatic amyloid in 10·3 per cent of the animals. Thereafter the incidence of amyloid decreased steadily by the 20th week but splenic amyloid was still present in 14·3 per cent of the animals after 45 weeks. Resorption of hepatic amyloid paralleled that of the splenic amyloid. Renal amyloidosis was not striking and did not increase during the resorption of splenic amyloid.

In 87 rabbits, some of which received intravenously at various intervals small, and some large, doses of killed staphylococci, the following findings were obtained. 1. There occurred a hyperplasia of lymph nodes, spleen and thymus, that is to say, a status thymicolymphaticus.
