Hydrocolpos in a mixed-breed dog: a case report.

A 3.5-year-old, 5.2-kg mixed-breed dog was presented with persistent stranguria after being neutered due to dystocia 6 months ago. Plain abdominal radiographs revealed an intrapelvic soft-tissue attenuating mass that displaced the urinary bladder cranially and constricted the descending colon. Abdominal ultrasonography yielded inconclusive results. Computed tomography revealed the mass as a tubular, hypodense structure compressing the urethra and the descending colon. This finding was defined as hydrocolpos induced by an imperforate hymen, segmental vaginal aplasia, or a vestibulovaginal disor

Case Report: A rare case of renal failure secondary to in utero megalourethra.

BACKGROUND: Megalourethra is a rare congenital condition marked by dilation and elongation of the penile urethra, resulting from hypoplasia of either the corpus spongiosum or corpus cavernosa. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a novel case of a male infant prenatally diagnosed with megalourethra who subsequently developed rapid-onset anhydramnios and advanced renal failure. CONCLUSION: Unlike previously described cases, this case is unique due to the patient's abrupt progression to anhydramnios at 34 weeks and 5 days, despite having normal amniotic fluid levels prior to that. With late-onset an

Rapport de cas Suspected congenital unilateral ureteral atresia and hydronephrosis in a 6-year-old dog.

A 6-year-old neutered male giant schnauzer dog was presented to an emergency clinic with stranguria and pollakiuria. On physical examination, the abdomen was generally and non-painfully distended. Diagnostic imaging revealed several large, anechoic, fluid-filled, space-occupying lesions from the cranial to caudal abdomen placing extramural pressure on the bladder and urethra and apparently causing the clinical signs. Unilateral ureteral atresia with secondary ipsilateral hydronephrosis and hydroureter were diagnosed on post-mortem examination. Due to a lack of history of abdominal surgery or t

Laparoscopic surgery for female posterior urethral bladder diverticulum with bladder outlet obstruction: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Bladder diverticula (BD) can be classified into congenital and acquired forms, with the latter accounting for approximately 90% of all cases, primarily among male patients. Although BD-associated anatomical bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) is uncommon, existing literature suggests that congenital BD are more frequently observed in male children and rarely in female children. While around 70% of acquired BD are linked to BOO secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia in male patients, clinical reports of female BD are less common. Furthermore, cases of female BD located posterior t

Laparoscopy Assisted Peritoneal Pull-Through Vaginoplasty in Transgender Women.

BACKGROUND: Penile inversion vaginoplasty still remains the gold standard in genital gender affirming surgeries in transwomen. However, insufficiency of the penile skin due to either radical circumcision or puberty blockers presents great challenge in vaginal reconstruction. Peritoneal pull-through vaginoplasty is well known technique for the treatment of vaginal absence in cis-woman due to vaginal agenesis or trauma. OBJECTIVE: We describe our laparoscopy assisted technique of using peritoneal flaps for neovaginal construction in male to female gender affirming surgery METHODS: In period fro

Urinary Incontinence and Urinary Tract Infections.

Urinary incontinence results from disorders of the lower urinary tract or neurologic diseases either of the nerve supply to the bladder/urethra or within the central nervous system. Congenital causes include patent urachus and ectopic ureter. Coordination of lower urinary tract function involves the interaction of both the sympathetic and parasympathetic system as well as somatic branches of the central nervous system. Well-recognized causes of incontinence include equine herpes virus 1 myeloencephalopathy, polyneuritis equi (neuritis of the cauda equina), and sacral/coccygeal trauma. Idiopath

The use of rotational fluoroscopy and 3-D reconstruction in the diagnosis and surgical planning for complex cloacal malformations.

INTRODUCTION: Cloacal malformations, a confluence of the urinary tract, vagina and rectum into a single common channel, has a broad and complex anatomic spectrum requiring an imaging tool for visualization, measurement, and surgical planning for the reconstruction of these structures. We evaluated the role of 3-D fluoroscopy for this purpose, as it offers a combination of spatial correlation with precise anatomic measurements. METHODS: We examined our imaging protocol for patients with a cloacal malformation and report our experience with rotational fluoroscopy and 3-D reconstruction in 16 co

Repair of Iatrogenic Urethral and Bladder Neck Injury Due to Missed Diagnosis of Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome is a congenital malformation disorder resulting in agenesis of the proximal vagina, absence of cervix, and variable development of the uterus. This report describes the repair of a complex iatrogenic urethrovaginal injury due to a missed diagnosis of Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser. Our treatment utilized a primary urethroplasty through a transvaginal approach with bladder neck reconstruction and a Martius flap for secondary coverage. Urinary continence was restored postoperatively.

Bladder Neck Collagen Injection in the Treatment of Congenital Retrograde Ejaculation: A Case Report.

The present study describes the first successful treatment of a congenital retrograde ejaculation case with a submucosal collagen injection to the bladder neck. A 28-year-old male (height 170 cm, weight 80 kg) attended to the urology outpatient clinic with complaints of scattered urine stream and absence of ejaculation. The laboratory tests, including hormone profile (follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and testosterone) and the routine blood count were within normal ranges, whereas semen analysis demonstrated a total absence of ejaculation. The analysis of post-ejaculate urine

[IIA2-Y-type urethral duplication].

Urethral duplications are extremely rare congenital malformations. The most used classification is that of Effmann and Lebowitz, describing 6 types of urethral duplications. The under type IIA2-Y is one of the most rare duplications corresponding to duplicated urethra originating from the bladder neck and extending toward the ectopic perineal or anal insertion. We here report the case of a 32 year patient, with no previous personal history, suffering from urinary leakage during and after urination since childhood. Clinical examination showed a bottleneck at the level to the perineum initially

Prostatic urethra malformation associated with retrograde ejaculation: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Retrograde ejaculation can have anatomical, neurogenic, or pharmacological causes. Among these factors, malformation of the prostatic urethra is an uncommon cause. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a 29-year-old Han Chinese man with absence of his verumontanum combined with ejaculatory duct cysts, and no other cause for ejaculatory dysfunction. His verumontanum was replaced by a deep groove adjacent to his bladder neck, which could significantly influence bladder neck contraction. In addition, the large cysts in the ejaculatory duct could obstruct the anterior outlet of his prostatic

Megalourethra: a case report managed with a single intrauterine bladder aspiration.

Congenital megalourethra is a rare mesenchymal anomaly of the male urethra, characterised by severe dilatation of the penile urethra due to congenital absence of the corpus spongiosum and/or corpus cavernosum. Postnatal complications include voiding and erectile dysfunction as well as renal insufficiency and pulmonary hypoplasia. We present a unique case of congenital megalourethra diagnosed prenatally in the early second trimester. The parents opted to continue pregnancy and vaginal delivery of a live neonate occurred with a favourable outcome.

Persistent Urogenital Sinus: Diagnostic Imaging for Clinical Management. What Does the Radiologist Need to Know?

BACKGROUND: Persistent urogenital sinus (PUGS) is a congenital pathological condition characterized by an abnormal communication between the urethra and vagina. It may be a part of a complex syndrome and can be more often associated with congenital malformations affecting the genitourinary tract system (33%) such as intersex, rectovaginal communication, bladder agenesis, absence of vagina, and hydrocolpos. The correct radiological assessment of PUGS is especially useful for clinicians since the exact anatomical evaluation of this abnormality is a crucial factor for surgical planning. The imagi
