PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify morphological differences between the symptomatic and asymptomatic hips in patients with bilateral hip dysplasia (HD).
METHODS: From 109 patients who underwent eccentric rotational acetabular osteotomy (ERAO) between 2017 and 2022, 33 patients were selected as the First Cohort. These patients had undergone ERAO on the symptomatic side, while the contralateral side remained completely asymptomatic for ≥ three years postoperatively. Among them, 18 patients with matching lateral centre-edge angles (CEA) on both sides were selected as the Second Cohort. The a

French pediatric orthopedics has profoundly influenced global surgery through its approach based on an understanding of growth, biomechanical rigor, and the pursuit of simple, safe, and teachable techniques. On the occasion of the SOFCOT centenary, the SOFOP board pays tribute to these innovations that have become international references. The French school distinguished itself by first seeking to measure in order to treat better, with Duval-Beaupère's work on the evolution of scoliosis, Hechard and Carlioz's growth tables, Mallet's functional score for obstetric palsy, and Diméglio's classifi

INTRODUCTION: Hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) is a bone-preserving option for young, active patients. The influence of the underlying diagnosis on long-term outcome remains unclear, particularly the distinction between primary osteoarthritis (OA), developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and non-OA conditions.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 104 consecutive metal-on-metal HRAs in 101 patients (three bilateral) performed by one surgeon between 2006 and 2011, stratified into Primary OA (n = 50), DDH (n = 29) and Non-OA (n = 25: avascular necrosis [AVN] n = 15, inflammatory

Pelvic and femoral osteotomies, including soft-tissue balancing of the pediatric hip joint, aim to restore as physiological a geometry and biomechanics as possible in order to improve function and prevent wear. The main indications are developmental (DDH) and neurogenic dysplasia (NDH), Perthes disease (LCP), and femoral head slippage (ECF/SCFE). In childhood, acetabular roof plasty (PDP) and the Salter osteotomy (SIO) are the primary options; after growth is complete, triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO) and periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) are available, with the former potentially being performed ev

MATERIAL AND METHOD: Acetabular anteversion angle (AAA) and orientation angle of the iliac bone (AOOI) determined by use of a CT scan were studied in CDH. 55 children with CDH were selected on hip arthrography for this study. Subluxated hips were excluded (i.e. opposite hip of a unilateral CDH is normal). 10 boys and 45 girls with a mean of age of 2 years 1 month (extremes from 1 to 4 years 3 months) were studied. CT scan was performed before any orthopaedic treatment in 3 cases of bilateral luxation and 14 cases of unilateral. In the other cases, time between the end of orthopaedic treatment

BACKGROUND: Femoral version (FV) affects hip biomechanics and postoperative outcomes in developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) as well as femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). However, its assessment depends on advanced imaging modalities such as CT and MRI with limited clinical utility for cost-effective screening of FV. This study aimed to implement and test the diagnostic accuracy of the lesser trochanter index (LTI) as an indicator for increased femoral FV on pelvic radiographs in patients with symptomatic DDH and FAI.
METHODS: This prospective, diagnostic cohort study included symptomati

BACKGROUND: Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy (FCMD) is a rare neuromuscular disorder associated with severe muscle weakness and a high risk of hip displacement. Surgical management of hip dislocation is challenging because of cardiopulmonary risks, and the role of hip bracing in FCMD has not been established.
OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility and radiographic outcomes of hip bracing in nonambulatory children with FCMD.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series.
METHODS: Three nonambulatory children with genetically confirmed FCMD underwent hip bracing for 6 months. Radiographic parameters, includ

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Arthrochalasia Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (aEDS) is a rare connective tissue disorder characterized by severe joint hypermobility, congenital hip dislocation, skin hyperextensibility, and muscle hypotonia. It is typically caused by heterozygous splice-site variants in COL1A1 or COL1A2, leading to exon 6 skipping. Autosomal recessive forms are extremely rare and have been reported predominantly in families from Saudi Arabia carrying the homozygous COL1A1 missense variant c.2050G>A, p.(Glu684Lys), with clinical presentations ranging from severe to mild.

PURPOSE: Early diagnosis is essential for the treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), and the use of abduction bracing is considered the gold standard for patients < 6 months of age. The aim of this study is to report an analysis of the results of using the Coxaflex abduction brace.
METHODS: This multicentre prospective study included 44 hips in infants younger than 6 months with unilateral or bilateral reducible (Barlow-positive) developmental dysplasia of the hip, treated with the Coxaflex brace. DDH was diagnosed by clinical examination and ultrasound during outpatient scree

Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase 1 (NTRK1) gene, characterized by impaired pain perception, autonomic dysfunction, and progressive musculoskeletal damage. A 6-year-old girl with ocular and cutaneous albinism, psychomotor retardation, and bilateral hip dislocation was diagnosed with CIPA due to the presence of atraumatic lower limb fractures. Genetic testing revealed a novel NTRK1 splice site mutation (c.851-2A>G). The patient experienced bilateral medial longitudinal a

MYO18B is an unconventional class XVII myosin that is predominantly expressed in muscle and heart tissue. Recessive pathogenic MYO18B variants cause a rare myopathy associated with Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS), facial dysmorphism, short stature and less frequently cardiomyopathy. Reported neuromuscular manifestations were variable, with nemaline bodies observed in one patient. We report six novel patients from four families with an early onset myopathy due to biallelic MYO18B variants. Facial, axial, proximal upper and lower limb weakness was prevalent. Three patients had congenital findings in

OBJECTIVES: The coexistence of multiple genetic disorders in a single individual is more frequent in populations with high consanguinity rates. When a single diagnosis does not fully explain the clinical phenotype, the presence of additional genetic conditions should be considered. This approach is essential for accurate genetic counseling and optimal long-term management. Here, we aimed to present two siblings diagnosed with both neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM) and leukocyte adhesion deficiency type 1 (LAD-1), a combination not previously reported.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report two sisters b

BACKGROUND: Maudsley Family Therapy (MFT), and its manualised version, Family-Based Therapy (FBT), are the only well-established treatment interventions for adolescent anorexia nervosa (AN), with treatment efficacy primarily measured by improvements in eating behaviours and weight restoration. A crucial component of this therapy is an intensive home-based refeeding intervention that requires a substantial commitment from parents for up to one year. While this treatment works to restore weight in a proportion of adolescents, very little is known about its impacts on family distress, relationshi
