The Relationship Between Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) and Congenital Talipes Equinovarus (CTEV)-A Retrospective Case Series.

BACKGROUNDS: There is no consensus if a relationship exists between idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV) and developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Our research aim was to provide a contemporary Australian population statistical relationship between DDH and idiopathic CTEV, compared to published data. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective data analysis of a continuous sample of infants with idiopathic CTEV, who attended a Ponseti Clinic at Sydney Children's Hospital, born between 2010 and 2019. The prevalence of DDH requiring treatment was diagnosed utilising screening ultrason

Modular and Non-modular Conical Tapered Stems in Total Hip Arthroplasty for Crowe III and IV Hip Dysplasia.

BACKGROUND: Conical stems are effective in total hip arthroplasty for high-degree dysplasia, but no comparative studies about modular and non-modular versions are available. By comparing 3 conical stems in 3-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT)-based simulations in Crowe III and IV dysplasia, the study sought to assess the rate of implants allowing correct biomechanical reconstruction and the correlations between the 3 stem reconstructions and native hip morphology. METHODS: Using a 3D CT-based simulation, 3 different conical stems (single-taper, modular neck, and proximal junction modul

Comparison of robotic and conventional total hip arthroplasty in Crowe type 3-4 hip dysplasia: a retrospective analysis of radiological precision and early clinical outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is an effective treatment for advanced hip osteoarthritis, particularly in complex cases such as Crowe Type 3 and 4 developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). This study aimed to compare radiological and early clinical outcomes of conventional (cTHA) and robotic (rTHA) THA in patients with Crowe Type 3 and 4 DDH. METHODS: Patients who underwent cTHA or rTHA were retrospectively analysed. Preoperative and postoperative clinical parameters, including range of motion (ROM), visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores, modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS), and leg-

Bernese Peri Acetabular Osteotomy-A Review Article.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip remains a significant cause of hip pain, hip joint dysfunction, and premature hip osteoarthritis worldwide. The typical deformity involves anatomic acetabular insufficiency, with decreased acetabular contact area and subsequent overload of the acetabular rim. Bernese periacetabular osteotomy, a complex and powerful acetabular redirectional surgery, first described by Ganz and colleagues in 1988, remains a reliable option to manage the skeletally mature dysplastic hips with excellent outcomes precluding the need for a hip joint arthroplasty at an early age.

Finite element analysis of the treatment of infant developmental dysplasia of the hip by traditional Chinese medical physical manipulation.

This study used finite element analysis to biomechanically evaluate a traditional Chinese medicine physical manipulation for the reduction of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in infants. An infant-specific 3-dimensional finite element model of the hip, incorporating the pelvic bones and Y-cartilage, was developed. As direct segmentation of infant hip cartilage from clinical magnetic resonance imaging was unreliable, a validated scaling method based on an adult model was employed. A dynamic analysis compared the stress distribution and contact area in the acetabulum and femoral head dur

Hybrid Symmetry Mamba Network for Ultrasound-Based CAD of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is the most common congenital joint disease in infant. The B-mode ultrasound (BUS) based computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) can help sonologists improve diagnostic accuracy for DDH. The routine CAD models mainly developed based on convolutional neural network or Transformer, which cannot fully learn the inherent structural and texture properties in the hip BUS images. The newly proposed Mamba model has shown its superior performance for learning feature representation with linear computation complexity. However, the scanning mechanism still effect the perfo

Ultrasonographic predictors of residual acetabular dysplasia in high-risk infants.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) encompasses a spectrum of hip abnormalities that, if undiagnosed and untreated, can lead to long-term complications. While ultrasound is the gold standard for early diagnosis, the criteria for recommending radiographic follow-up remain unclear. This prospective cohort study investigated the predictive validity of ultrasonographic parameters at five months of age for residual acetabular dysplasia at one and two years of age in untreated high-risk infants. A total of 278 high-risk infants underwent ultrasound at the initial visit and at five months, with

Intraosseous Tunneling and Ligamentum Teres Ligamentodesis "Teretization" to Enhance Stability in Congenital Hip Dislocation Surgery: Surgical Technique and Mid-Term Outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) with complete dislocation (grade ≥III) in older patients often requires open reduction. However, achieving long-term stability remains challenging. This study introduces and evaluates a novel surgical technique, intraosseous tunneling and ligamentodesis of the ligamentum teres (LT), conceived to enhance postoperative hip stability while preserving the ligament's anatomic course. METHODS: Pediatric patients with grade ≥III DDH, as classified by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI), underwent open reduction using a novel ligamentu

Game-Changing Advances in Infant Hip Dysplasia Evaluation With Ultrasound.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) causes preventable morbidity when diagnosis is delayed. We review advances that address screening gaps: 3-dimensional (3D) ultrasound for volumetric visualization with retrospective plane selection; artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted 2-dimensional (2D) cine sweeps that add automated quality control and classification for lightly trained operators; and open-source software and datasets that enable external validation and standardization. A pragmatic pathway is universal newborn screening using brief AI-assisted 2D sweeps, with abnormal or indeterminat

Can the increase in the use of perinatal hip sonography really reduce the number of developmental hip dislocations needing closed/open reduction? The experience of a large Italian pediatric hospital.

Perinatal hip sonography (PHS) is not mandatory in Italy, but during the last years, it has been performed increasingly more even in babies with negative Ortolani maneuver. We aimed to investigate whether the increased use of PHS decreased the number of Graf's type IV hips needing closed/open reduction (COR) at the Bambino Gesù Hospital of Rome, Palidoro (BGHRP). We consulted the BGHRP database from 2012 to 2022 to determine the number of patients with Graf's type IV hips who had COR; the COR patients who had PHS done inside and outside the hospital; the patients who had brace treatment after

Outcomes of Total Hip Arthroplasty for Congenital Hip Dislocation: A Retrospective Study.

Introduction Congenital hip dislocation (CHD) represents a long-standing public health issue in Morocco, with a late diagnosis often leading to advanced joint degeneration. While periacetabular osteotomy is preferred in young adults with preserved joint space, total hip arthroplasty (THA) becomes necessary in end-stage cases. However, THA poses challenges due to anatomical deformities and the increased likelihood of revision surgeries. This study evaluates the clinical, radiological, and functional outcomes of THA performed for CHD and compares them with existing literature. Materials and meth

Radiographic criteria in developmental dysplasia of the hip in late infancy, inter and intrareader agreement.

INTRODUCTION: Developmental Dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a common pediatric disorder screened for by antero-posterior (AP) pelvic radiographs in infants aged between 4-9 months. We chose from the radiographic indicators commonly used in the diagnosis the acetabular index, the Shenton line and the ossification and symmetry of the femoral head to assess for their reliability and variability among readers. In addition, this study aimed to obtain the mean age of appearance of the ossification center of the femoral head in the Lebanese population. METHODS: 149 pelvic AP radiographs of children be

A Rare Case of Congenital Knee Dislocation.

Congenital knee dislocation (CKD) is a rare condition that can present as an isolated finding or in association with genetic syndromes. It is most commonly diagnosed postnatally and classified into three grades based on severity. While generally having a favorable prognosis, particularly for milder cases, prompt treatment is crucial. We present a case of CKD successfully treated with conservative measures, with serial casting and Pavlik harness, in an otherwise healthy infant. This report aims to increase awareness of the clinical presentation and management of CKD in general practitioners giv

Congenital Knee Dislocation: A Case Report.

Congenital knee dislocation (CKD) is a rare musculoskeletal condition that may occur in isolation or be associated with other congenital abnormalities. Prognosis depends on the severity of the deformity and the timing of diagnosis and treatment. Comprehensive assessment and close follow‑up are essential to optimize recovery and to exclude associated anomalies. We report the case of a female newborn with CKD, diagnosed postnatally, associated with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), generalized ligamentous laxity, congenital heart disease, and a chromosomal abnormality. Early conservative
