Aesthetic use of recycled perforator flaps to correct contour deformities during abdominoplasty procedures.

INTRODUCTION: Pedicled perforator flaps can be used not only in reconstructive scenarios but also for aesthetic purposes, thereby enhancing both the aesthetics and functionality of the treated area. The authors present two representative cases demonstrating an innovative indication for correcting contour deformities using de-epithelialized perforator flaps recycled from abdominoplasty excision patterns. CASE REPORTS: Two patients presented with abdominal skin redundancy and contour deformities due to previous surgeries. The first patient, with a history of bladder exstrophy, underwent a fleur

Quantification of the changes in acetabular index and Center-edge angle of pelvic radiograph induced by photography angles.

BACKGROUND: In regions lacking professional digital imaging equipment, parents sometimes use smartphones to take photos of pelvic X-ray films and transmit them to clinicians via a messaging application for consultation. However, the accuracy of measuring parameters through photos is unknown. Certain factors that affect photograph quality may lead to deviations in pelvic radiographic measurements. This study investigates the impact of photography angles on measurements of the Acetabular Index (AI) and Center-edge Angle (CEA). METHOD: We collected pelvic radiographs from 50 patients who were su

Long-Term Outcomes of Total Hip Arthroplasty With Subtrochanteric Osteotomy for Crowe IV Dysplasia.

BACKGROUND: Cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA) with subtrochanteric shortening osteotomy (SSO) is a well-established treatment for Crowe IV developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). However, series to date are limited by mid-term follow-up. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term (mean 18 years) implant survivorship, radiographic results, and clinical outcomes of our previously published series. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 28 hips (24 patients) that underwent cementless THA with SSO for Crowe IV DDH between 1992 and 2005 using our institutional total joint regist

Risk Factors for Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip Before 3 Months of Age: A Meta-Analysis.

IMPORTANCE: Two meta-analyses published in 2012 found breech presentation, family history of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), female sex, and primiparity to increase the risk of DDH. However, the DDH definition, reference tests, and the age of the examined children varied considerably, complicating the translation of those findings to current screening guidelines. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association of previously proposed risk factors with the risk of sonography-verified DDH. DATA SOURCES: A literature search strategy used MeSH (Medical Subject Heading) terms and text words assoc

The epidemiology of hip dysplasia in the nationwide Norwegian Mother, Father, and Child Cohort Study.

AIMS: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a congenital disorder with several assumed risk factors, including breech presentation, female sex, and familial predisposition. Although several of these risk factors are included in national screening programmes, delayed diagnoses of DDH still occur. The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of these and other risk factors in order to improve the current screening programmes. METHODS: This study used data from the Norwegian Mother, Father, and Child Cohort Study (MoBa) and the Medical Birth Registry of Norway (MBRN). We used descri

Birth-Related Traumatic Proximal Femoral Physeal Separation: A Case Report.

CASE: A full-term baby, born through emergency cesarean section, presented with pain and limited movement in his left leg. Radiographs at day 5 demonstrated superolateral displacement of the left femur, initially interpreted as a congenital hip dislocation. Ultrasound imaging demonstrated a normally positioned femoral head with no acetabular dysplasia, and repeat radiographs at 2-weeks revealed callus formation. Separation of the proximal femoral epiphysis was suspected and subsequently confirmed with magnetic resonance imaging. No active intervention was recommended, and 1-year radiographs de

3D-printed porous tantalum for acetabular reconstruction in complex primary arthroplasty and revision of hip.

INTRODUCTION: In cases of hip joint damage, such as osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), avascular necrosis, or hip fractures, total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a critical surgical intervention. For individuals whose hip abnormalities stem from congenital issues, injuries, or previous operations, this procedure can encounter considerable obstacles, including complex bone defects, soft tissue deficiencies, and an increased risk of infections, which may result in poor alignment, joint instability, and higher need for revisions. This study explored the application of personalized, three-
