An evaluation of clinical and ultrasound results of Pavlik harness treatment for developmental dysplasia of the hip.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is the instability or dislocation of the hip joint at birth that may occur in utero, during infancy, and childhood. This condition was identified as an important challenge. This study aimed to determine the clinical and ultrasound results of Pavlik harness treatment for DDH in patients referred to the pediatric clinic of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ahvaz. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study in which 100 newborns aged 15 to 30 days were included by the census method after obtaining parental consent. Follow-up of the infants was performed at 3 and 6

[Application of the Graf method for diagnosis and early detection of hip dysplasia].

INTRODUCTION: Developmental hip dysplasia (DHD) is the most common disorder affecting pediatric hip; screening all neonates clinically, and using ultrasonography selectively for those babies who are at high risk is a widespread recommendation. our goal is to evaluate the impact that USG diagnosis and early treatment of DHD has had on the child population of our unit. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study. Records of those children from one to six months of age, with a diagnosis of DHD, without distinction of sex, subjected to ultrasonographic tracking in t

[Age of initiation of treatment for hip dysplasia with Pavlik harness and residual dysplasia].

UNLABELLED: The successful treatment of hip dysplasia consists of achieving a concentric reduction and avoiding residual dysplasia. One of the essential factors is early diagnosis and treatment. OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the relationship between the age at initiation of hip dysplasia treatment and the presence of residual dysplasia at one year of age. PATIENTS AND METHOD: Prognostic retrospective study. Patients with hip dysplasia treated with Pavlik harness in a tertiary healthcare center were selected. Residual dyspla sia was defined as an acetabular index greater than 28 degrees at one year of

Epidural Anesthesia and Continuous Epidural Analgesia in a Pediatric Patient With Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Disease: A Case Report.

Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease (PMD) is a genetic leukodystrophy, which is a progressive and degenerative central nervous system abnormality caused by dysmyelination. Because the incidence of PMD is extremely low, only a few case reports have been published regarding its anesthetic management. In particular, epidural anesthesia has only been reported in one case of general anesthesia combined with caudal anesthesia. We performed general anesthesia combined with epidural anesthesia for the soft-tissue release surgery for bilateral hip subluxation in a six-year-old male patient diagnosed with PMD.

Use of ultrasonography to evaluate early outcomes of reduction in developmental dysplasia of the hip.

OBJECTIVE: To compare pubo-femoral distance (PFD) in normal hips and those treated for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and to investigate the value of ultrasonography from the medial hip in early follow-up of dislocated DDH after reduction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 58 infants (49 females) with DDH who presented with 65 dislocated hips (51 unilateral and 7 bilateral). Dislocation was treated by closed reduction for 53 and open reduction for 12 hips. Ultrasonography on the medial side of the hip was performed within 1-2 weeks and 4 weeks after reduction. The distance

Anteroposterior pelvic radiograph is not sufficient to confirm hip reduction after conservative treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether an anteroposterior pelvic radiograph alone is sufficient to confirm hip reduction after conservative treatment or whether MRI could be alternatively performed. A total of 133 children (145 hips) were enrolled. All children were examined by anteroposterior pelvic radiographs and MRI. Three experts interpreted anteroposterior pelvic radiographs and then verified these results on MRI. For patients with inconsistent results between anteroposterior pelvic radiographs and MRI, the continuity of Shenton's line and Calve's line was recorded, and the

Characteristics of surface electromyogram signals after Pemberton pelvic osteotomy combined with femoral osteotomy in children with unilateral developmental dysplasia of the hip.

This study aimed to assess the surface electromyogram (sEMG) signal characteristics of the muscle around the hip joint after Pemberton osteotomy in children with unilateral developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). A total of 21 children with unilateral DDH who had received Pemberton osteotomy were selected as the DDH group, and 21 healthy children of the same age were selected as the control group. The children in both groups were tested using sEMG, the Root mean square (RMS) values of the tensor fascia lata, rectus femurs, and medial head of the hamstring and gluteus maximum on both sides in

Watchful waiting for the undisplaced hip dysplasia when undergoing contralateral hip reconstruction.

PURPOSE: Patients undergoing surgical reduction of the dislocated hip secondary to developmental dysplasia may have a contralateral undisplaced dysplastic hip. This study aimed to compare the observation of the contralateral undisplaced dysplastic hip with the treatment by acetabuloplasty in terms of persistent dysplasia to determine the need for bilateral surgery. METHODS: Acetabular dysplasia was defined by an acetabular index (AI) of more than 30 degrees plus a center edge angle (CEA) of less than 20 degrees. A surgical database was queried retrospectively for a cohort between 2008 and 201

Is Hip Medial Ultrasound More Accurate Than Radiography for Determining the Status of Hip Reduction in Children Treated With a Spica Cast? A Retrospective Diagnostic Accuracy Study.

BACKGROUND: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is the most common hip abnormality in children. Closed or open reduction and cast immobilization are the most commonly used treatments for patients aged 6 to 18 months with dislocation; they are also used in children younger than 6 months when brace treatment is not effective. During cast immobilization, surgeons need reliable and timely imaging methods to assess the status of hip reduction to ensure successful treatment and avoid complications. Several methods are used, but they have disadvantages. We developed and, in this study, evaluated

Open Reduction at 15 Months of Left Hip Dislocation in a Male Infant Diagnosed with Arthrogryposis.

BACKGROUND Arthrogryposis is a congenital condition of multiple contractures of joints associated with hip dislocation. The outcome of open reduction of hip dislocation in arthrogryposis patients is debatable. Open reduction of arthrogryposis is challenging for shallow acetabulum and extensive adhesions and fibrosis. For this reason, a careful extensive release must be carried out to achieve the open reduction of the hip in arthrogryposis patients. The literature lacks surgical recommendations for open reduction of the hip in arthrogryposis patients and how to deal with cases of the extruded b
