Hip microinstability remains one of the most challenging conditions we encounter in hip preservation surgery. The difficulty is not performing a capsular plication but determining when instability is truly present and clinically relevant. In our experience, no single clinical, radiographic, or intraoperative finding should define the diagnosis. Rather, the entire clinical picture must be considered when evaluating the potentially unstable hip. Capsular plication represents an important component of this strategy but should not be considered in isolation. Careful diagnosis and thoughtful patien

As per Internet world stats, with 560 million Internet users, India is the second largest online market in the world, ranked only behind China. Out of these 560 million Internet users in India, almost 375 million people use social media. These facts are enough to highlight the deep penetration of Internet and social media in Indian society. This deep penetration of social media among the Indian workers has further more deepened in the era of COVID-19. The employees are working from home, so they are more prone to use mobile and social media platforms for non-work-related purposes. It is a prov

BACKGROUND: Current methods to classify developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) on ultrasound (US) images, such as the Graf method, provide limited prognostic information. This study aimed to improve the prediction of the clinical course and outcome at age five of decentered hips, diagnosed on the first US made in the first months after birth, by identifying acetabular shape variants on these US images using a statistical shape model (SSM).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: US images of the hip were retrieved from a single-center retrospective cohort of patients with DDH Graf type D/III/IV. A SSM was cr

BACKGROUND: Bracing is considered the most effective treatment for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in infants aged < 6 months with reducible hips. The Tübingen splint was developed as an advancement in abduction brace for managing hip dysplasia, in stable and unstable hip cases. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the outcomes of the Tübingen splint in treating patients with DDH aged < 6 months were evaluated. The outcomes were categorized according to the Graf classification (IIa, IIb, IIc, IId, III, and IV), based on success and complication rates.
METHODS: The systematic

Direct inferior hip dislocation is the rarest type, sometimes referred to as luxatio erecta. To the author's knowledge, an adult inferior hip dislocation with an associated displaced intertrochanteric fracture has only been reported once in the literature. Accordingly, there are few described treatment options for this injury. An 18-year-old male presented after a motor vehicle collision with an inferior hip dislocation and an associated ipsilateral intertrochanteric hip fracture. He was taken to the operating room urgently for the reduction of the dislocation and definitive treatment. In this

UNLABELLED: Guidelines for the definitive surgical management of pediatric femoral shaft fractures have recently been established. Initial preoperative immobilization of these patients varies by age and size; limited guidelines exist to guide caregivers in appropriate preoperative care. Here, we present our recommendations based on clinical experience and literature review. We prefer temporary splints for patients younger than 5 years and Bucks boot traction for skeletally immature patients older than 5 years. In small patients, the splint should extend past the iliac crest and down to the foo

CASE: A 39-year-old woman who was involved in a motor vehicle collision sustained a right hip posterior wall acetabular fracture-dislocation. Subsequent dislocation was noted at the 4-week point with gross instability and heterotopic ossification. She underwent a hip containment technique using a transfemoral neck tunnel through the quadrilateral surface and FiberTape. At 1-year postoperatively, she reported improvement in mobility without evidence of repeat dislocation.
CONCLUSION: This technique can be used for unstable hip sockets with a small posterior wall acetabular fracture to maintain

INTRODUCTION: The Girdlestone resection arthroplasty procedure is one of the options for treating an infected hip arthroplasty. It is a surgical procedure that involves resection of the head and neck of the femur, resulting in pseudarthrosis of the hip joint. This is often kept as a last resort for patients with significant co-morbidities or when other treatments have been ineffective. This procedure should be considered a salvage procedure, primarily aimed at pain relief and infection control.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 73-year-old male who sustained a fracture of the neck of the fem

CASE: A 19-year-old T8-T9 level spinal cord injury patient experienced significant pain and recurrent right posterior hip dislocations. Closed reductions, bracing, casting, and soft tissue procedures were unsuccessful in keeping his right hip reduced or alleviating pain.
CONCLUSION: An anteverting periacetabular osteotomy and subtrochanteric femoral shortening flexion osteotomy were performed. Three years following the procedure, the patient had minimal pain and a stable reduced right hip. This case report describes an approach for treating a painful, unstable hip in a spinal cord injury pati

Radiographs have been used for more than a century as standard practice to diagnose bony pathology. Although cost-efficient, their limitations to display 3-dimensional structures may compromise our ability to correctly diagnose-and treat correspondingly-conditions of the hip that cause microinstability and ultimately lead to cartilage wear. Several radiographic measurements-such as the lateral center-edge angle, anterior center-edge angle, Tönnis angle, crossover sign, etc.-have historically been used to determine instability. More recently, the femoro-epiphyseal acetabular roof index has been

INTRODUCTION: The treatment option for borderline hip dysplasia (BHD) includes hip arthroscopy and periacetabular osteotomy (PAO). To the present day the controversial discussion remains, which intervention to prefer. Literature reports supporting an educated choice are scare, based on small patient cohorts and do not address the variability of acetabular morphology. Consequently, we intended to report PAO outcomes, from patients diagnosed with BHD, dependent on acetabular morphology, in a large patient cohort and aimed to define risk factors for poor clinical results and patient satisfaction.

INTRODUCTION: Cutaneous traction is used to temporize lower extremity fractures and relies on friction between the skin and surrounding material to apply a longitudinal force. This circumferential compressive force can lead to pressure sores, skin sloughing, or compressive neuropathies. These complications have been reported in up to 11% of patients when the cutaneous traction relies on adhesive tapes, plaster, and rubber bandages being in immediate contact with the skin. The rates of these complications are not well documented when using modern foam boots.
METHODS: A retrospective chart revi

Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis is an extremely rare disorder characterized by congenital generalized loss of pain and thermal sensation, decreased sweating, intellectual disability, and self-mutilating behavior. Skeletal complications can develop even after minor trauma or an unknown cause, and management is difficult and sometimes unsuccessful, leading to the development of Charcot joints. We report 3 patients whose hip instability was treated with a hip action brace (HAB) that allowed for free abduction but prevented adduction. In 2 patients, metal attachments were added to

INTRODUCTION: The treatment of ultrasound unstable hips with the Tübingen splint is currently under discussion. However, there is a lack of long-term follow-up data. This study presents to the best of our knowledge first radiological mid-term to long-term data of the successful initial treatment with the Tübingen splint of ultrasound unstable hips.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 2002 to 2022 the treatment of ultrasound unstable hips type D, III and IV (age ≤ 6 weeks, no severe limitation of abduction) with the Tübingen splint worn as a plaster is evaluated. Based on data derived from routine X-r

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the success rate for treatment of ultrasound unstable hips (type D, III and IV) with Fettweis plaster in terms of a midterm follow-up from the very beginning in the neonatal period until the age of 4 to 8 years.
METHODS: In total, 69 unstable hips, which were successfully treated with Fettweis plaster and after with a flexion-abduction splint, were included into the study. Hip delvelopment was followed by determining the acetabular index (ACI) on routine pelvic radiographs at the age of 12 to ≤24, 24 to ≤48 and 48 to ≤96 months and the center ed

Background Hip fractures, including intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures, are among the most common types of fractures. The dynamic hip screw (DHS) and the cephalomedullary hip nail (CHN) are the two main techniques used for the fixation of these types of fractures. This study aims to explore the association of the fracture type with the use of walking assistance devices post-surgery, regardless of the fixation technique. Methodology This study is a retrospective study based on the review of de-identified patient data from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality I
