Surgical treatment of hallux valgus can be very difficult when it occurs together with pes adductus. The medially displaced metatarsal bones prevent a sufficient shifting of the first metatarsal during hallux valgus correction. This can lead to inherently high reoccurrence rates. Open surgical corrections lead to a profound soft tissue trauma and prolonged swelling, while requiring relief from weight-bearing in the affected foot. In this paper, we aim to introduce a useful midshaft modification of the lateralising Distal Metatarsal Minimal-invasive Osteotomy (lat. DMMO) to perform an effective

Background: Caregivers often seek medical assistance when their child experiences podiatric medical ailments. Podiatric medical diseases such as ingrown toenails, callosities, warts, metatarsus varus, and hallux valgus frequently occur in children and adolescents. However, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation are often based on empirical experiences; thus, as a first endeavor, clinical and epidemiologic mapping of podiatric medical diseases in children is warranted. We describe the prevalence of common foot conditions-callosities, ingrown toenails, hallux valgus, metatarsus varus, and war

PURPOSE: The representation of anatomical variations in Renaissance art offers a unique opportunity to explore the historical perception of normality and deformity. This study aims to analyse a previously undescribed anatomical feature in the marble statue of Adam (c. 1490-1495) by Tullio Lombardo.
METHODS: A detailed visual and morphological analysis of the statue was performed, focusing on the lateral aspect of the forefoot. The observed features were compared with current clinical descriptions of bunionette deformity and interpreted within the broader context of Renaissance anatomical repr

OBJECTIVE: To explore effectiveness of the Lapidus arthrodesis combined with the middle metatarsal base rotation osteotomy in the treatment of hallux valgus (HV) with metatarsus adductus (MA).
METHODS: Between February 2023 and September 2024, 18 patients (18 feet) of HV with MA were underwent Lapidus arthrodesis combined with the middle metatarsal base rotation osteotomy. There were 5 males and 13 females with an age of 50-68 years (mean, 55.3 years). The foot deformity was characterized by severe HV, redness and swelling at the utricle, and the corpus callosum on the plantar side of the for

Minimally invasive surgery has a high learning curve and multiple instructional courses and trainings should be completed by the surgeon prior to patient application. Modified Lapidus also is still a valid procedure selection in patients that may have concomitant medial column pain and/or dysfunction. Procedure selection is not "one-size fits all".

BACKGROUND: Forefoot Varus is characterized by inversion of the metatarsal heads relative to the calcaneal bisector. It is present in 83.67 % of cases and contributes to overpronation and related foot/knee/hip pathologies. Despite multiple assessment methods, their reliability remains unclear. This systematic review evaluates the most reliable measurement technique.
METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis selected studies from several databases: PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and PEDro. The search strategies included keywords such as "forefoot", "varus forefoot",

INTRODUCTION: Hallux valgus (HV) is a common foot deformity, with metatarsus adductus (MA) identified as a potential predisposing factor. MA has been shown to negatively affect surgical outcomes for HV, particularly in severe cases. This study aims to clarify the prevalence of MA in the HV population using different metatarsus adductus angle (MAA) measurement methods and assess whether MAAs are influenced by HV severity.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 294 feet from 147 participants. Patients were classified into non-HV (normal) and HV subgroups, with HV severity grad

Failure to address metatarsus adductus (MTA) with coexisting hallux valgus (HV) has resulted in mixed outcomes and increased deformity recurrence. The purpose of this study was to investigate early radiographic and clinical outcomes of a novel instrumented 2nd and 3rd TMT corrective arthrodesis combined with instrumented triplanar 1st TMT arthrodesis with early weightbearing. Radiographs and medical records from subjects undergoing this surgical approach were retrospectively reviewed. Forty-three subjects (N = 43 feet) with a mean ± SD age of 41.6 ± 14.2 (range 15 to 62) years were treated at

BACKGROUND: Metatarsus adductus is a relatively common congenital foot deformity often unrecognized at birth. There is adduction of the metatarsals, supination of the subtalar joint, and plantar flexion of the first ray.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to utilize the most commonly used methods for assessing metatarsus adductus deformity in children and to identify the measurements with the least intra- and inter-observer variability.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: All consecutive patients between 2 and 9 years of age with metatarsus adductus by roentgenographic evaluation on weight-bearin

Metatarsus adductus (MA) is an isolated, transverse-plane dominant deformity occurring primarily at the tarsometatarsal joints. The deformity is commonly associated with increased rates of fifth metatarsal base fractures, hallux valgus deformities, lesser metatarsophalangeal joint deformities, and multiplanar deformities of the hindfoot. Periarticular osteotomies of the metatarsals, cuboid, and cuneiforms have been discussed thoroughly in the literature, both isolated and in combination. Recent techniques have described intraarticular osteotomies with realignment arthrodesis of the tarsometata

BACKGROUND: In-toeing gait is defined as the internal rotation of the long axis of the foot to the line of progression. Although most of the time it is corrected spontaneously but sometimes causes torsional misalignment syndrome and maybe patellofemoral instability and arthritis of the knee.
RESEARCH QUESTION: What is the effect of gait plate insoles and lateral sole wedged shoes on foot progression angle (FPA) in children with in-toeing?
METHOD: In this study, a randomized control trial was conducted with 11 participants (18 feet) who were girls aged between seven and ten years old. They we

Metatarsus adductus (MA), the most common congenital foot deformity, involves adduction of the forefoot at the tarsometatarsal joint, with normal hindfoot alignment. Early diagnosis is important because treatment is more successful if initiated before age 9 months. Treatment of MA depends on deformity severity, in which mild to moderate deformity can be treated conservatively. Current standard of care for severe or rigid deformity involves referral by primary care physicians to specialists for management by casting and splinting. Recently, several orthoses have demonstrated equal effectiveness

The most common foot deformity in newborns is the forefoot adduction deformity (FAD), where the hindfoot foot is in a normal position. The diagnosis for this problem is mainly based on a physical examination. The use of imaging methods has been described, but no advantage was shown with their utilization in determining the diagnosis and guiding treatment. Several classification systems have been proposed to characterize the degree of severity. The classifications are based on the degree of deviation and the flexibility of the foot. Early diagnosis and early treatment, if necessary, are extreme

Radiographic measurements for the assessment of metatarsus adductus (MTA) have a broad range of interpretation without a consensus regarding surgical indications. The "Plumbline" (PL) radiographic assessment method helps identify MTA and determines if physical space is available to align the first metatarsal to the longitudinal foot axis without the need to realign the lesser metatarsals. Forty-five neutral weight-bearing anterior-posterior (AP) radiographs of patients scheduled for surgical intervention for isolated hallux valgus (HV) or combined MTA/HV deformities were reviewed. The cohort w

Metatarsus adductus is common congenital deformity. Usually during growth, the deformity resolves. If the deformity persists, it can be associated with hallux valgus (HV) deformity. There is high prevalence (30%) of metatarsal angle (MTA) in patients having HV. There are lateral toe deformities associated with this setting. Correction HV associated with metatarsus adductus is a challenging surgery, and the outcomes have been disappointing over the years. The surgical approach should address all the deformities-the HV, the MTA, and the lateral toes deformities at the same setting. Minimal invas

Larsen of La Réunion Island syndrome (LRS) is an autosomal recessive condition associated with multiple large joint dislocations, clubfeet, severe dwarfism, and distinctive facial features. LRS is caused by a recurrent homozygous variant in B4GALT7 gene with a founder effect in La Réunion population. Proteoglycans (PG) that are a major component of the extracellular matrix, are composed of a core protein connected to a glycosaminoglycans side chain via a tetrasaccharide linker region. B4GALT7 encodes galactosyltransferase I, one of the enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of the linker region.

Ankle fractures are among the most common fractures sustained in the pediatric population. Given the frequency of physeal involvement of the distal fragment, complications including growth arrest, overgrowth, and rotational deformities are not uncommon. This case report describes a 12-year-old adolescent boy who presented after an acute right ankle injury sustained while playing. He noted right ankle pain, swelling, and in-toeing of his foot. Radiographs of the ankle demonstrated a distal tibia Salter-Harris type II fracture that appeared nondisplaced. However, a CT scan of the ankle demonstra

BACKGROUND: Hallux valgus deformity consists of a lateral deviation of the great toe, metatarsus varus, and pronation of the first metatarsal. Most osteotomies only correct varus, but not the pronation of the metatarsal. Persistent postoperative pronation has been shown to increase deformity recurrence and have worse functional outcomes. The proximal rotational metatarsal osteotomy (PROMO) technique reliably corrects pronation and varus through a stable osteotomy, avoiding fusing any healthy joints. The objective of this research is to show a prospective series of the PROMO technique.

Hallux valgus (HV) is a common deformity of the foot. Its postoperative recurrence is not uncommon and is closely related to the recurrence of its underlying metatarsus primus varus (MPV) deformity. The syndesmosis procedure uses 1 to 2 intermetatarsal cerclage sutures to realign the first metatarsal and then induces a biological bonding between the 2 metatarsals to prevent the MPV deformity from recurring. This radiological study aimed to assess its effectiveness in long-term MPV and HV deformities recurrence prevention. Ninety-two feet of 51 consecutive patients had syndesmosis procedures th
