Congenital deformities of the foot significantly challenge the mobility and quality of life of affected individuals. While surgical interventions are common, rehabilitation protocols tailored to address the specific needs of adults with congenital foot deformities are less explored. This case series aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a specialized foot rehabilitation protocol in improving functional outcomes and quality of life in adults with congenital foot deformities. A series of cases involving adults diagnosed with congenital foot deformities were enrolled in a structured rehabilitatio

Pes planus, commonly referred to as flatfoot, is a congenital foot deformity characterized by the descent of the medial longitudinal arch, resulting in reduced spring action and increased stress on the foot during ambulation. This condition, opposite to pes cavus, typically lacks symptomatic presentation despite its structural abnormality. This case report discusses a 20-year-old female presenting to the musculoskeletal department of physiotherapy with impaired gait attributed to developmental flatfeet and an underdeveloped heel on one foot since birth. Apart from these foot deformities, no ot

BACKGROUND: Multi-segment foot models (MFMs) provide a better understanding of the intricate biomechanics of the foot, yet it is unclear if they accurately differentiate foot type function during locomotion.
RESEARCH QUESTION: We employed an MFM to detect subtle kinematic differences between foot types, including: pes cavus, neutrally aligned, and asymptomatic and symptomatic pes planus. The study investigates how variable the results of this MFM are and if it can detect kinematic differences between pathologic and non-pathologic foot types during the stance phase of gait.
METHODS: Independe

INTRODUCTION: The influence of excess weight on the development of children's feet remains a subject of debate. To further elucidate whether this relation occurs, this study compared arch morphology and flexibility in three groups of children: underweight, normal, and overweight.
METHODS: In total, 1,532 children (807 boys, 725 girls; age range 7-11 years) participated in the study. The researchers measured the participants' height and weight, calculated their body mass index, and categorized their weight status as underweight, normal weight, or overweight. A three-dimensional foot model was

This case report presents a novel cause of rigid flatfoot caused by the entrapment of the Flexor Hallucis Longus (FHL) tendon within the subtalar joint. A 19-year-old male with chronic right ankle and foot pain diagnosed with rigid flatfoot deformity. MRI identified the FHL tendon entrapped within the subtalar joint, a condition to our knowledge never previously reported. This report highlights the importance of thorough clinical evaluation and advanced imaging techniques in diagnosing rare causes of rigid flatfoot and suggests that surgical options may still be valid for such rare presentatio

BACKGROUND: Neurogenetic disorders caused by pathogenic variants in four genes encoding non-erythrocytic spectrins ( SPTAN1, SPTBN1, SPTBN2, SPTBN4) range from peripheral and central nervous system involvement to complex syndromic presentations. Heterozygous pathogenic variants in SPTAN1 are exemplary for this diversity with phenotypes spanning almost the entire spectrum.
METHODS: Through international collaboration we identified 14 families with genetically unsolved distal weakness and unreported heterozygous SPTAN1 loss-of-function variants including frameshift, nonsense and splice-acceptor

BACKGROUND: Autosomal recessive inherited pathogenetic variants in the histidine triad nucleotide-binding protein 1 (HINT1) gene are responsible for an axonal Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy associated with neuromyotonia, a phenomenon resulting from peripheral nerve hyperexcitability that causes a spontaneous muscle activity such as persistent muscle contraction, impaired relaxation and myokymias.
METHODS: Herein, we describe two brothers in whom biallelic HINT1 variants were identified following a multidisciplinary approach.
RESULTS: The younger brother came to our attention for clinical eva

BACKGROUND: Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is a spectrum of inherited disorders characterized by both motor and sensory manifestations, which include prominent distal muscle weakness, foot deformities (pes cavus and hammer toes), and sensory deficits. Postural tremor as a manifestation of Charcot-Marie-Tooth is seldom present, except in a variant of Charcot-Marie-Tooth subtype 1 (Roussy-Levy syndrome), and its presence often results in a diagnostic dilemma.

BACKGROUND: Renal disease is associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), a common inherited neurological disorder. Three forms of CMT have been identified: CMT1 of the demyelinating type, CMT2 of the axonal defect type, and intermediate type (Int-CMT). INF2 is an important target for variants that cause the complex symptoms of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and CMT.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 13-year-old female Chinese patient (born in 2011) with a rare co-occurrence of CMT1 and glomerulosclerosis (GS) (CMT1-GS). The patient presented with slowly progressive

Accurate measurement of the foot contact area is crucial for diagnosing pes planus (flatfoot) and pes cavus (high arch), which significantly affect pressure distribution across the plantar surface. This study aimed to develop a program using ChatGPT-4 to automate foot contact area measurements using a podoscope, thereby enhancing diagnostic precision. A 53-year-old female volunteer stood on a podoscope to capture images of her feet, which were processed to isolate the foot contours and measure the contact areas. A program developed utilizing ChatCPT-4 was designed to outline the feet, detect c
