Impact of preoperative pes planus on orthopaedic implant removal following first metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis: A retrospective analysis.

First metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint fusion is a frequently employed surgical treatment option for hallux rigidus and hallux valgus. Implant-related complications are common, necessitating further investigation into predisposing factors. The altered mechanics of pes planus may influence surgical outcomes; however, its direct impact on implant removal rates post-fusion remains unclear. We retrospectively analyzed the TriNetX US Collaborative Network database to identify patients undergoing first MTP joint arthrodesis by ICD-10 and CPT coding, the data was stratified by preoperative pes planus

Comparison of different surgeries for correction of fixed flatfoot deformity studied through a dynamic model.

Different surgeries are used to treat stage III Adult Acquired Flatfoot Deformity. Some include hindfoot manipulation with subtalar fusion (single fusion), triple fusion (subtalar, talonavicular, and calcanealcuboid), and triple fusion with additional midfoot and forefoot manipulation. This study aimed to compare the effect of these surgeries on the unloaded and loaded foot, using a validated dynamic computational model. Five patients with stage III flatfoot underwent pre-surgical and post-surgical CT scans. Dynamic computational models were created for four groups: pre-operative, single fusio

Biomechanical Evaluation of Spring Ligament Reconstruction With Suture Tape or Tendon Graft in a Cadaveric Flatfoot Model.

BACKGROUND: The acquired flatfoot, often called progressive collapsing foot deformity, frequently includes attenuation or failure of the spring ligament. Reconstruction of the spring ligament has been proposed in conjunction with other bone and soft tissue reconstruction techniques. In this study, we compared a tendon-graft reconstruction with suture tape augmentation in a cadaveric flatfoot model. METHODS: Eight matched-pair fresh-frozen cadaver feet underwent flatfoot creation and reconstruction. The feet were cyclically loaded with 16,000 cycles from 200 N to 1.5× body weight at 1 Hz. Each

French experience in the management of fibular hemimelia: Radiographic and functional outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Fibular hemimelia is a rare congenital condition characterized by hypoplasia of a bone segment associated with malformations. Its clinical presentation is highly variable, not only in terms of the types of malformations but also their severity. If untreated, it can lead to significant functional impairments. Managing patients with this condition often spans several decades. There is no standardized treatment protocol, and to our knowledge, no recent French study has analyzed the surgical strategies implemented and the long-term functional outcomes in these patients. The last Fren

The causal relationship between hallux valgus and endogenous pathogenic factors: A 2-sample Mendelian randomization.

Notably, several factors are associated with hallux valgus (HV); however, their causal relationship remains unclear. In this study, a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to investigate the casual relationship between 9 endogenous risk factors and HV, aiming to provide a foundation for the clinical management of HV. Exposure factors such as body mass index (BMI), BMI (male), BMI (female), acquired flatfoot, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, knee osteoarthritis, hip osteoarthritis, and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome were considered, with HV as the outcome. Exposure and outcome data we

Assessment of Gross Motor Skills in Ponseti-treated Children With Idiopathic Clubfoot at 3 Years Old: Insights from the Peabody Developmental Motor Scale 2.

BACKGROUND: Congenital talipes equinovarus, or clubfoot, can lead to lifelong functional impairments, including diminished gross motor skills (GMS), if left untreated. The Ponseti method corrects idiopathic clubfoot through casting and bracing. Given the importance of GMS in childhood development, this technique must be optimized to support childhood and long-term health outcomes. This study examined immediate posttreatment GMS in 3-year-old children treated with Ponseti, hypothesizing that they would perform on par with their nonclubfoot peers. METHODS: Data from 45 children (33 to 46 mo of

Contemporary Management of the Upper Limb in Apert Syndrome: A Review.

BACKGROUND: Apert syndrome is a relatively rare genetic disorder with a constellation of distinct craniofacial deformities and bilateral syndactyly of the hands and feet. Although the literature contains ample evidence for the need to treat cranial, midfacial, and hand abnormalities, there are severe shortcomings in the literature when attempting to describe the pathology and management of the entire upper limb in patients with Apert syndrome. METHODS: A thorough literature search was performed using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, on the management of the upper extremity

Effect of Foot Rehabilitation Exercises for Painful Flat Foot in a 20-Year-Old Female: A Case Study Analysis.

Pes planus, commonly referred to as flatfoot, is a congenital foot deformity characterized by the descent of the medial longitudinal arch, resulting in reduced spring action and increased stress on the foot during ambulation. This condition, opposite to pes cavus, typically lacks symptomatic presentation despite its structural abnormality. This case report discusses a 20-year-old female presenting to the musculoskeletal department of physiotherapy with impaired gait attributed to developmental flatfeet and an underdeveloped heel on one foot since birth. Apart from these foot deformities, no ot
