People With Marfan Syndrome Utilize an Ankle Dominant Strategy to Perform the Sit-to-Stand Task.

Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a connective tissue disorder caused by structural changes in fibrillin-1 and is associated with muscle weakness and joint pain. The understanding of lower extremity (LE) joint mechanics associated with joint pain in people with MFS is limited. The goal of this study was to assess LE joint mechanics during the sit-to-stand (STS) task in people with MFS compared with asymptomatic controls. Sixteen people with MFS and 16 sex- and body mass index-matched controls were tested in this study. All participants performed the STS task at a self-selected speed. Peak LE joint exte

Foot Progression Angle Modulates Three-Dimensional Lower-Limb Biomechanics in Flexible Flatfoot: Kinematic-Kinetic Patterns and Clinical Implications.

INTRODUCTION: Foot progression angle affects gait and lowerlimb alignment. Altered angles may increase knee and ankle loading and produce tissue loading patterns previously linked to musculoskeletal injury. This study investigates how different foot progression angles modify knee and ankle biomechanics in young adults with flexible flatfoot. METHODS: 28 participants (aged 18-35 years) with flexible flatfoot completed gait trials under three foot progression angle conditions. Kinematic and kinetic variables were analyzed using one-dimensional statistical parametric mapping. A 1D convolutional

Successful Repair of a Morgagni Hernia Using the Laparoscopic Transabdominal Preperitoneal (TAPP) Approach: A Case Report.

Morgagni hernia (MH) is a rare diaphragmatic hernia caused by a parasternal defect. We report a case of MH that was successfully repaired using a laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (L-TAPP) approach combined with a self-gripping mesh. A 76-year-old woman was incidentally diagn4osed with MH during a preoperative evaluation of an unrelated knee surgery. Computed tomography revealed herniation of the greater omentum through a diaphragmatic defect measuring ~5 cm × 5 cm. L-TAPP was performed, in which the hernia contents were reduced and wide peritoneal dissection enabled tension-free mesh

The effect of fatigue on kinetic and kinematic variables in individuals with flexible flatfoot during gait: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Flexible flatfoot is a prevalent musculoskeletal deformity characterized by partial or complete loss of the medial longitudinal arch. It can modify lower-limb kinematic and kinetic parameters during walking. Fatigue may further impair gait patterns, potentially aggravating the deformity and increasing injury susceptibility. However, despite substantial research on fatigue and flatfoot separately, integrative evidence on fatigue-related gait biomechanics in individuals with flexible flatfoot remains limited. METHODS: This study was conducted as a systematic review and meta-analysis

Novel classification of tibial hemimelia and reconstruction-guiding principles.

BACKGROUND: Tibial hemimelia is an extremely rare congenital limb deficiency characterized by variable tibial absence, knee instability, and ankle deformity. Existing classification systems rely primarily on static radiographic morphology and provide limited guidance for surgical decision-making, particularly regarding limb reconstruction versus amputation. Determinants of limb salvage especially the integrity of the quadriceps extensor mechanism and knee stability are not systematically incorporated into current classifications. This study proposes a novel classification designed to integrate

Gait in childhood and adulthood in persons with myelomeningocele - a retrospective analysis.

BACKGROUND: Gait patterns in children with myelomeningocele (MMC) at various neurological levels have been described, both with and without orthotic support. Although the neurological level of the lesion serves as an important predictor of ambulatory potential, the expected walking ability is not always achieved, as additional factors such as spasticity may influence gait negatively. The aim of this study was to retrospectively compare gait patterns as assessed in childhood with those observed in adulthood. METHODS: Of 59 individuals with MMC aged 18 years or older, 29 had undergone three-dim

Cadaveric Case Report of Anterolateral Bowing of Tibia With Histopathological Correlation.

Congenital bowing of the tibia can be easily diagnosed with prenatal ultrasonography, but more commonly, it is recognized or becomes conspicuous later in infancy or in toddler age. Although congenital pseudoarthrosis of the tibia remains the top differential for anterolateral bowing of the tibia and fibula, other uncommon conditions can cause similar deformities. We report a case of a near-term, stillborn fetus that was donated to the Anatomy department, with bilateral anterolateral bowing of the legs. We proceeded with radiological evaluation and dissection with gross and histopathological ex

Spectrum of Congenital Anomalies in Myhre Syndrome-Insights Into Effects Brought by Altered TGF-β Signaling via Gain-of-Function Variants in SMAD4.

Myhre syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by progressive multisystem involvement. Gain-of-function missense heterozygous variants affecting the Ile500 residue and Arg496 residue of the SMAD4 gene are implicated in this condition. In this article, we aim to understand the spectrum of congenital anomalies in Myhre syndrome by studying a cohort of previously unreported patients alongside published literature. Our analysis revealed that the musculoskeletal system was the most common system to be affected, followed by the cardiovascular system. Intrauterine growth restriction was the

A case report with imaging findings of a rare case of fetal Poland syndrome: Right-sided rib hypoplasia with diaphragmatic bulging.

Poland syndrome (PS) is a rare, non-hereditary congenital malformation characterized primarily by hypoplasia or absence of the pectoralis major muscle on one side. Key clinical manifestations include hypoplasia of the breast and nipple on the same side, which may be accompanied by hand deformities on the same side. In extremely rare cases, the syndrome affects the ribs, leading to rib hypoplasia and resulting in ipsilateral diaphragmatic displacement. The pathogenesis is likely related to disruption of the subclavian artery blood supply during embryonic development. Prenatal diagnosis of this

Structural balance restoration in complex forearm problems using 3D technology.

INTRODUCTION: The human forearm is a finely tuned system in which the radius and ulna act as an interdependent pair to enable stability, mobility and efficient load transfer. Disruption through trauma, malunion, congenital deformity or failed surgical intervention produces imbalance, presenting with restricted motion, instability, pain, and functional loss. Advances in three-dimensional (3D) imaging, planning, and printing now allow for more accurate analysis and more precise correction of forearm deformities.Reconstruction:Restoration of bone morphology alone does not ensure functional recove

Monoblock dual-mobility cups in total hip arthroplasty for low-grade hip dysplasia: a retrospective series with a mean ten years follow-up.

INTRODUCTION: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) for hip developmental dysplasia (DDH) carries a high perioperative complication rate, with dislocation representing the most frequent adverse event. Monoblock dual-mobility (DMM) cups have demonstrated promising results in reducing prosthetic instability while ensuring long-term implant survival. However, data specifically addressing DMM THA in low-grade DDH remain scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical outcomes and complication rates at a minimum ten-year follow-up in patients undergoing DMM THA for low-grade DDH. Review of Cutaneous Manifestations in Myhre Syndrome With Histopathological Analyses and Genotype-Phenotype Correlation.

Myhre syndrome is a rare multisystem disorder characterized by distinctive facial features, hearing loss, and progressive fibrosis affecting the skin, joints, lungs, and cardiovascular system. It is caused by heterozygous pathogenic variants in the SMAD4 gene. In this review, we detail the cutaneous manifestations observed in two previously reported patients with genetically confirmed Myhre syndrome. While skin biopsies demonstrated pan-dermal thickening of collagen bundles, the immunohistochemical staining patterns were distinct from those seen in other inflammatory sclerosing disorders. Addi

Outcomes of hemiepiphysiodesis on lower limb deformities due to rickets: A systematic review.

PURPOSE: Rickets is a condition characterized by a defective mineralization on the epiphyseal plate, either in the form of nutritional or congenital hypophosphatemic rickets, which could lead to progressive bone deformity. One of said deformities is angular growth of the knee which can cause permanent disfigurement. Hemiepiphysiodesis is a surgical option to correct the deformity, yet the studies evaluating its results are rare. This review aimed to map the literature pertaining to this topic. METHODS: A comprehensive search was performed across five databases: Pubmed, Cochrane, ProQuest, Emb
