Linburg-Comstock syndrome (LCS) is a congenital anatomical variation characterized by an anomalous connection between the flexor pollicis longus (FPL) and flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendons. Though often asymptomatic, this anomaly can present with pain, cramping, and restricted hand movements, particularly during fine motor tasks. This literature review aims to review current knowledge regarding the anatomy, incidence, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic modalities, and management strategies for LCS.

Pectus excavatum (PE) is the most common congenital chest wall deformity, accounting for 90% of cases, and may predispose patients to hemodynamic compromise due to cardiac compression. Such events during spinal surgery, however, are rarely reported. In the widely used genupectoral prone position for spine surgeries, the patient lies prone with the torso supported and the legs flexed, thereby reducing abdominal compression, improving venous drainage, and reducing bleeding. However, the support provided by the thorax in this position may cause significant mediastinal compression in the presence

Macrodactyly is a congenital abnormality characterized by overgrowth of single or multiple digits, frequently accompanied by pathological changes in bone, soft tissue, and nerve tissue, and is caused mostly by somatic variants. Previous studies have demonstrated that macrodactyly is predominantly caused by pathogenic variants in the PIK3CA gene, yet the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we analyzed 13 patients clinically diagnosed with isolated macrodactyly. Through whole-exome and Sanger sequencing, we identified one pediatric patient carrying a novel mosaic de no

Most young patients with wrist arthritis will present with a history of trauma as their inciting event. Common causes of wrist arthritis in young patients are intercalated segment pathologies such as scapholunate advanced collapse and scaphoid nonunion advanced collapse, postdistal radius fracture arthritis, and pisotriquetral arthritis. Less common causes of wrist arthritis in young patient are nontraumatic in nature and encompass a wide range of etiologies that are idiopathic (eg, Kienbock and Preiser disease), congenital (Madelung deformity), metabolic (chondrocalcinosis), and inflammatory

Background: Congenital fibular deficiency is a rare longitudinal deficiency of the lower extremity associated with limb-length discrepancy, ankle and foot deformity, soft-tissue imbalance, and functional impairment. Reconstruction may be challenging because bone healing, regenerate maturation, and mechanical stability can be less predictable in selected patients. Case Presentation: A man with congenital fibular deficiency developed chronic distal tibial nonunion after corrective osteotomy at another institution. The nonunion persisted for four years, and the patient presented to our hospital w

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cage grafting in achieving union at the medial tibial plateau hemielevation site, using intraoperative knee arthrography to assess the accuracy of correction. Advanced infantile Blount disease (Langenskiöld stages V and VI) poses considerable surgical challenges owing to its complex multiplanar deformities and elevated risk of recurrence. Several surgical strategies, including staged and single-stage corrections, have been described. This case series presents the outcomes of a single-stage approach that s

BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare genetic disorder primarily caused by mutations in genes involved in type I collagen production. We report a 27-year-old female with genetically confirmed OI type XI (OI-XI) who experienced a delayed diagnosis of seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA), resulting in irreversible deformities.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient had multiple congenital contractures and became wheelchair-dependent in early childhood. She received only one course of bone protection therapy in her lifetime. Two years prior to presentation, she developed bilateral hand pa

Bilateral anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) agenesis is an exceptionally rare condition. Only a limited number of bilateral ACL agenesis cases have been reported in the literature, and these patients typically present with additional congenital anomalies or other pathologies involving the knee joint. Here, a 12-year-old male patient was reported with bilateral absence of the ACL, who had no comorbidities other than a history of casting and Achilles tenoplasty performed for pes equinovarus. The patient presented to the clinic with bilateral knee laxity and a sense of instability during daily act

BACKGROUND: Fixed lateral patellar dislocations (FLPD) are a rare subtype of chronic patellofemoral instability (PFI) where the patella remains dislocated in flexion and extension. The aim of this study was to describe radiographic morphological features in pediatric patients with FLPD and determine how they differ from those with acute patellar dislocation (APD) and unaffected controls.
METHODS: Pediatric patients who underwent medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction for FLPD or APD were identified and age- and sex-matched to controls without PFI. On axial magnetic resonance imaging, b

BACKGROUND: Pathogenic ACAN variants ('aggrecanopathies') are increasingly recognised as a non-syndromic cause of skeletal dysplasias and short stature. Unlike many other aetiologies, ACAN-related disorder is reportedly associated with advanced bone age due to early epiphysial fusion, although presentation can vary. This study aimed to further characterise skeletal findings in paediatric and adult patients.
METHODS: A retrospective study of confirmed ACAN-related disorder cases from a tertiary genetics centre in England was performed. Data collected included patient demographics, antenatal ul

BACKGROUND: Dysplasia epiphysealis hemimelica (DEH) is a rare congenital bone dysplasia characterized by overgrowth of the epiphyseal cartilage on one side, with its etiology remaining unclear. The condition predominantly affects weight-bearing joints of the lower limbs, typically presenting with localized pain due to a rapidly growing mass around the joint. In severe cases, symptoms such as limb length discrepancy and limb deformity may occur. Early diagnosis is challenging, and delayed diagnosis and treatment can easily lead to limb deformity and functional impairment.

A trigger finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, occurs when a digit becomes locked in a flexed position due to inflammation of the tendon sheath, restricting smooth tendon excursion. Pediatric trigger fingers (PTF) are less common and consequently less well-characterized - frequently classified as congenital - although the etiology remains heterogeneous and incompletely understood. In this case study, we explore the case of a three-year-old male with flexion deformities of bilateral long and ring fingers. The patient underwent two trigger finger surgeries; the first was a release of t

Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) is a highly heterogeneous constellation of disorders defined by non-progressive congenital multiple joint contractures, typically manifesting across multiple limbs. The pathology results in significant functional impairment, including restricted range of motion, chronic arthralgia, and secondary musculoskeletal deformities like scoliosis. Given that AMC is an umbrella designation encompassing over 300 distinct etiologies, the profound clinical variability poses substantial diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The relative rarity of AMC and the absence

Carpal coalition is the union between two or more carpals that should otherwise have uninterrupted mobility. Of those reported among pediatric populations, the vast majority are lunotriquetral (69.2%) or capitohamate (17.3%), while scaphotrapezial (ST) is among the most rare. Here, we report a case of a pediatric patient with symptomatic congenital ST coalition as part of the VACTERL association that resolved with surgical intervention. A 9-year-old right-hand-dominant girl with consistent right wrist and snuffbox pain following an incidental fall-on-outstretched hand was later revealed to be

Neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM) is a rare genetic condition characterized by persistent hyperglycemia presenting within the first six months of life. It is most commonly caused by mutations affecting pancreatic development or β-cell function. ZNF808 is a recently identified gene that plays an essential role in human pancreatic development, with biallelic pathogenic variants causing autosomal recessive pancreatic agenesis. We report the case of a seven-month-old Saudi male infant with a history of intrauterine growth restriction who presented at 2.5 months of age with severe hyperglycemia and

Flatfoot, a disorder defined by the flattening or loss of the medial longitudinal arch (MLA), affects approximately 15.6% of the child population. It may result from congenital or acquired dysfunction of muscles, tendons, or ligaments in the foot and ankle, as well as skeletal abnormalities. Clinically, this disorder manifests as foot pain, gait abnormalities, and compensatory injuries in lower limb joints (e.g., knee and hip), thereby affecting motor function and quality of life. Short foot exercises (SFE) as a noninvasive rehabilitation strategy enhances arch height and improves dynamic foot

Lateral discoid meniscus is the most common meniscal congenital variant. A lateral discoid meniscus manifests with a spectrum of findings, including abnormalities in size and shape, disorganized collagen architecture, and/or hypermobility, predisposing the meniscus to early degeneration and tearing. The purpose of this narrative review is to discuss the anatomy of the lateral discoid meniscus and to highlight MRI findings that should be included in radiology reports to guide management.

BACKGROUND: Discoid lateral meniscus (DLM) is a congenital anomaly associated with increased risk of tearing and peripheral rim instability due to abnormal morphology and deficient capsular attachments. While total meniscectomy was historically performed, long-term complications have prompted a shift toward arthroscopic saucerization with or without repair. Though midterm outcomes are favorable, long-term data remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate long-term clinical outcomes following arthroscopic preservation surgery for symptomatic DLM and compare results between saucerization alone a

Congenital patellar dislocation is a relatively rare clinical deformity. In some patients, a delayed diagnosis or lack of early surgical intervention results in permanent patellar dislocation and subsequent knee osteoarthritis. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is currently the most effective treatment for end-stage osteoarthritis, but performing surgery in these patients presents notable technical challenges. The current report presents the case of a 60-year-old woman who had been suffering from knee extensor weakness and dysfunction for >50 years, resulting in an active knee extension deficit. T
