Calcaneonavicular coalition is traditionally considered a pediatric condition; however, some patients remain symptomatic into adulthood, and evidence regarding surgical outcomes in this population remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate clinical improvement following calcaneonavicular coalition resection in adults through a systematic review and single-arm meta-analysis of preoperative to postoperative changes in pain and function. A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, and Scopus was performed to identify studies published between January 2016 and December 2025. Eligible studies include

Poland's syndrome (PS) is a rare congenital condition with unilateral impacts on the chest. In addressing chest differences, surgery is often offered but not consistently performed on patients with PS. The present study sought to identify areas of importance around decision-making and outcomes in surgeries performed to address reduced or missing pectoral muscles. A qualitative approach was employed and co-produced, semi-structured group discussions were conducted online primarily involving UK-based participants, who (1) have PS and (2) have been offered chest surgery for their affected side. BACKGROUND: Tarsal coalition is an abnormal union between 2 or more tarsal bones that can potentially cause pain, stiffness, and altered foot biomechanics.
CASE REPORT: A 49-year-old man presented to the clinic with chronic dorsal pain in the left foot. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed multiple unilateral nonosseous calcaneonavicular and talocalcaneal coalitions, with associated bone marrow edema. Conservative treatment of the condition, including range-of-motion and strengthening exercises, resulted in gradual improvement.
CONCLUSION: This case underscores the importance of MRI in

SOX9 and RUNX2 are lineage defining transcription factors that drive differentiation of chondrocyte and osteoblast lineages respectively from osteochondral progenitors. In limb development, these progenitors are specified first by SOX9 expression required for mesenchymal condensation prior to RUNX2 activation and osteochondral differentiation to chondrocyte and osteoblast lineages. Unlike limb development, the anterior craniofacial skeleton arises from multipotent cranial neural crest cells (cNCCs). To examine the temporal activation of SOX9 and RUNX2 within cNCCs, we utilized a combination of

Filippi syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder characterized primarily by syndactyly, microcephaly, distinctive facial features, and intellectual disability. It may also involve multiple systemic manifestations including growth retardation, language disorders, visual impairment, cryptorchidism, abnormal dental and skeletal development, and so forth. The pathogenic gene associated with Filippi syndrome has been identified as CKAP2L, which encodes a mitotic spindle protein localized in the spindle, centrosome, and neural progenitor cells. Deficiency of CKAP2L may disrupt the div

High-arched feet affect approximately 10%-15% of the general population. Although the relationship between plantar pressure and bilateral symmetry is well studied, there is limited evidence regarding the use of Symmetry Index and pressure platforms. The objective of the study is to compare dynamic foot pressures and Symmetry Index during gait between subjects with Pes Cavus and subjects with normal feet. The analysis of asymmetric pressure patterns could benefit from studies that compare dynamic foot pressures and Symmetry Index values in subjects with high-arched feet and normal feet. This an

BACKGROUND: Syndactyly, also known as mulefoot, is one of the most common physical extremity malformations. In pigs, syndactyly has been associated with genetic or environmental factors and occurs as an isolated defect or in association with other congenital anomalies. This case report aimed to describe a radiographically confirmed case of syndactyly in a piglet.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 17-day-old 6.2 kg piglet showed syndactyly in all four limbs. Although this anomaly did not affect the patient's daily activities, it was a congenital malformation of clinical and zootechnical relevance. A complete

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Paediatric spine deformity, often arising from congenital or neuromuscular causes, can significantly impair cardiopulmonary and intra-abdominal function. Early identification and timely management are crucial to slowing curve progression. However, in LMICs, patients present late with severe curvatures exceeding 90°. Preoperative reduction is useful to mitigate surgical risks. This study assessed the feasibility of a modified halo-pelvic distraction device, focusing on major curve correction and complication rates.
METHODS: Patients with severe scoliosis were enrolle

Flatfoot pathologies in adolescents and adults are among the most common deformities of the hindfoot and midfoot. The etiology is multifactorial and often difficult to precisely classify in individual cases, which is why orthotic insoles and foot exercises often remain the only conservative therapeutic measure; however, there are typical clinical presentations that, while not frequently encountered in everyday practice, can lead to misinterpretation and the missed opportunity for important therapeutic interventions. Therefore, this article discusses the Müller-Weiss syndrome, tarsal coalition

Thrombocytopenia-absent radius (TAR) syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the absence of radius in the forearms and a decrease in platelet count. The molecular basis of TAR syndrome is linked to a heterozygous minimal deletion within the 1q21.1 region spanning 200 k bases (kb), resulting in a null allele and a nucleotide variation in RBM8A resulting in a hypomorphic allele. Previous studies have identified pathogenic variants in the coding regions of the RBM8A gene as the cause of TAR syndrome. However, the involvement of non-coding variants in disease pathogenesis remains larg

Myhre syndrome is a rare multisystem disorder characterized by distinctive facial features, hearing loss, and progressive fibrosis affecting the skin, joints, lungs, and cardiovascular system. It is caused by heterozygous pathogenic variants in the SMAD4 gene. In this review, we detail the cutaneous manifestations observed in two previously reported patients with genetically confirmed Myhre syndrome. While skin biopsies demonstrated pan-dermal thickening of collagen bundles, the immunohistochemical staining patterns were distinct from those seen in other inflammatory sclerosing disorders. Addi

Swimmer puppy syndrome (SPS), also known as splay leg, splay weak, or myofibrillar hypoplasia, is an uncommon condition with poorly understood pathogenesis. It affects neonates and is characterized by sternal flattening, limb abduction, and an inability to stand or ambulate properly. This report describes two American Akita littermates diagnosed with SPS. The condition was associated with pectus excavatum and cardiac dextroposition, identified through clinical examination and thoracic imaging. Both puppies presented with persistent sternal recumbency, respiratory distress, and restricted mobil

BACKGROUND: Congenital pseudoarthrosis of the tibia (CPT) is a rare, sinister condition that is often associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Even after achieving union, patients frequently present with significant leg length discrepancy (LLD) due to growth disturbance and repeated reconstructive surgeries. Tibial lengthening using distraction osteogenesis is commonly performed, yet outcomes and complications remain poorly understood.
OBJECTIVE: To systematically map the available literature on tibial lengthening in CPT, describe surgical techniques, summarize reported outcomes, and i

PURPOSE: Rickets is a condition characterized by a defective mineralization on the epiphyseal plate, either in the form of nutritional or congenital hypophosphatemic rickets, which could lead to progressive bone deformity. One of said deformities is angular growth of the knee which can cause permanent disfigurement. Hemiepiphysiodesis is a surgical option to correct the deformity, yet the studies evaluating its results are rare. This review aimed to map the literature pertaining to this topic.
METHODS: A comprehensive search was performed across five databases: Pubmed, Cochrane, ProQuest, Emb

PURPOSE: Resection of tarsal coalitions aims to relieve pain and restore hindfoot mobility, especially in young, active patients over the long term. This study investigated (1) long-term differences in clinical outcomes between calcaneonavicular (CN) and talocalcaneal (TC) coalition resections; (2) the frequency and clinical relevance of re-ossification; and (3) radiological signs of osteoarthritis in adjacent hindfoot joints.
METHODS: In this case series, 29 feet from 24 patients with a minimum follow-up of 80 months after tarsal coalition resection were examined. Clinical assessments includ

CONTEXT: Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) promote endochondral bone growth. We previously reported that vosoritide, a CNP analogue, increases annualized growth velocity (AGV) and height SD in prepubertal children with hypochondroplasia (HCH).
OBJECTIVE: We hypothesized that IGF-1 and CNP will be inversely associated at baseline and will respond differentially during a single-arm, unblinded, standardized 12-month phase 2 clinical trial of vosoritide in prepubertal patients aged 3 to 11 years with HCH and height less than -2.25 SD. Participants were foll

INTRODUCTION: Hypochondroplasia (HCH) is a disproportionate short-statured skeletal dysplasia condition caused by gain-of-function pathogenic variants in the fibroblast growth receptor 3 gene (FGFR3). Although HCH typically becomes clinically apparent after the first year of life, when height discrepancy compared with the general population becomes more pronounced, diagnosis is often delayed by several years. Early recognition of HCH is challenging because of wide phenotypic variability and subtle clinical and radiographic features, leading to delayed or missed diagnosis. Furthermore, wide var

Obesity and foot deformities pose substantial public health burdens globally. However, their causal relationship remains uncertain due to confounding and reverse causation in observational studies. This study aimed to investigate causal associations between obesity-related anthropometric indices and foot deformities using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. This two-sample MR study utilized genetic instruments from publicly available genome-wide association studies databases. We extracted single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) as instrumental variables for obesity (6 SNPs), body mass index
