A 42-year-old male with left hip pain was diagnosed of several right femoral and tibial bone tumours. All lesions were osteolytic with sclerotic margins. The symptomatic lesion in the proximal femur also showed bone expansion and focal cortical thinning. Whole-body [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT and segmental PET/MRI of the left hip and femur were performed for metabolic characterization of the lesions and for biopsy guidance. The lesions showed a heterogenous degree of FDG uptake corresponding to different metabolic stages of the disease. A biopsy of the tumour portion showing the high

INTRODUCTION: Craniofacial polyostotic fibrous dysplasia, as part of McCune-Albright syndrome, can have severe complications including vision loss. Also, patients with this syndrome are at greater risk of secondary intra-cranial pressure elevation due to medication side effects.
BACKGROUND: : A 6-year-old girl with McCune-Albright syndrome and polyostotic craniofacial fibrous dysplasia and optic canal narrowing, developed signs of slowly progressive optic nerve compression on clinical examination including deteriorating visual acuity, positive relative afferent pupillary defect )RAPD) and bil

BACKGROUND: Fibrous dysplasia/McCune-Albright syndrome (FD/MAS) may cause pain, impaired ambulation and decreased quality of life (QoL). International guidelines advocate management of FD/MAS in a tertiary multidisciplinary care pathway, but no longitudinal data are available to support this recommendation. This multicenter prospective observational study aimed to evaluate effects of 1 year of treatment in the FD/MAS care pathway in 2 tertiary clinics on QoL and pain, assessed by change in Short Form 36 and Brief Pain Inventory between baseline and follow-up. Patients completing baseline quest

McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) is a rare multisystem disorder characterized by a clinical triad of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (FD), skin pigmentation, and hyperfunctioning endocrinopathies. A 42-year-old man visited our medical hospital for the treatment of intermittent headaches and was diagnosed with MAS with acromegaly. This patient showed various clinical features of MAS, including pituitary adenoma, polyostotic FD, and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. The FD lesions showed characteristic radiographic features, such as widespread, sclerotic bony lesions in the cranial bones, mixed radiolu

INTRODUCTION: Fibrous dysplasia is a benign fibrous bone tumor that accounts for 5% to 10% of benign bone tumors. It can manifest as simple fibrous dysplasia (70%-80%), polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (20%-30%), with approximately the same incidence in men and women. We report a patient with a rare case of multiple fibrous dysplasia combined with proximal femoral shepherd deformity with pathological fracture of the femoral shaft complicated by nonunion. It is necessary to understand the disease in more detail to avoid overtreatment of benign lesions or misdiagnosis of malignant tumors and other

Coxa vara and shepherd's crook deformity represent the most common femoral deformities in patients affected by polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (PFD) and McCune Albright syndrome (MAS). The tibia is also commonly affected, with antero-medial bowing and valgus deformity. Surgical treatment of these deformities are technically demanding and, in most cases, intramedullary nails are the preferred method to stabilize corrective osteotomies. Genu valgus may also be present, as a residual defect after the surgical correction of the aforementioned deformities. The aim of our study was to report the outco

Cardio-facio-cutaneous (CFC) syndrome (OMIM #:115150, 615278, 615279, 615280) is a rare genetic condition caused by variants in the RAS/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction pathway. Up to 75% of cases are caused by mutations in the BRAF gene, whereas KRAS gene mutation has only been reported in <2% of cases. CFC syndrome is characterized by cardiac abnormalities, distinctive craniofacial dysmorphism, and various cutaneous abnormalities. Musculoskeletal and orthopedic manifestations are also prevalent in patients with CFC syndrome, among which the most common are skeletal

OBJECTIVE: Current management of fibrous dysplasia (FD) involving the paranasal sinuses and the adjacent skull base is currently controversial. This study aims to present our experience in the management strategy of FD that involves the paranasal sinuses and the adjacent skull base.
METHODS: Twenty three patients from 2006 to 2019 with monostotic fibrous dysplasia (MFD), polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (PFD), or McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) involving the paranasal sinuses and the adjacent skull base were retrospectively reviewed. This study series was divided into 3 groups based on management

McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) is a complex endocrinopathy with polyostotic fibrous dysplasia and café-au-lait spots. Pathological femoral shaft fracture along with MAS is not a common occurrence. Bisphosphonates can be used for the management of pathological fractures. A seven-year-old male child presented with pathological femoral shaft fracture with MAS (café-au-lait macules and hyperthyroidism). The patient was managed conservatively with closed reduction along with hip spica and oral alendronate. Fracture consolidation occurred within six to eight weeks with improvement in bone pains. Ora

BACKGROUND: McCune-Albright is a rare syndrome, caused by mutation of the GNAS1 gene, and is characterized by an appearance of multiple endocrinopathies, most commonly premature puberty, polyostotic fibrous dysplasia and skin changes called cafe au lait macules.
CASE REPORT: We present the case of a patient who is, to the best of our knowledge and after extensive review of literature, the youngest McCune-Albright syndrome patient with growth hormone excess, diagnosed at 8.9 months of age. An extensive diagnostic procedure was done upon the diagnosis. Hormonal assessment was performed and all

McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) is a rare heterogeneous genetic disorder that is characterized by a triad of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (FD), café au lait spots (CAL), and multiple hyperfunctional endocrinopathies. In general, it is diagnosed clinically. From the triads, 2 of the findings are enough to make the diagnosis. Craniofacial fibrous dysplasia is a term that is used to describe the fibrous dysplasia, which was localized at the craniofacial skeleton and is common in MAS patients. Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a rare non-neoplastic bone lesion that involves mostly the long bones and v

PURPOSE: MacCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) is a rare autosomal dominant osteo-hormonal disorder. MAS is characterized by a severe form of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia, 'café-au-lait' pigmentation of the skin and multiple endocrinopathies. MAS was shown to be caused by mosaic missense somatic mutations in the GNAS gene coding for the alpha-subunit of the stimulatory G-protein. MAS is also associated with radiation-induced malignant tumors, like osteosarcoma, fibrosarcoma and chondrosarcoma but their origin remains misunderstood. In parallel, bisphosphonates treatment was shown to improve the MAS

A 43-year-old man diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia with McCune-Albright syndrome was subjected to 18F-fluoride bone scan and 68Ga-PSMA-HBED-CC PET/CT as per the institution protocol. 18F-bone scan revealed extensive involvement of axial and appendicular skeleton confirming polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT showed increased tracer uptake in corresponding lesions of fibrous dysplasia. PSMA uptake in fibrous dysplasia lesions has been rarely described with literature evidence being limited to anecdotal case reports. Nevertheless, due to increasing use of PSMA PET/CT, one should be a

Processed nerve allografts (PNA) have increasingly been used as alternative to autogenous nerve grafts to repair nerve injuries in oral-maxillofacial surgeries. This case report describes an immediate PNA reconstruction of infraorbital nerve injury sustained during the ablation of a large expansile polyostotic fibrous dysplasia centered in the left maxilla.

McCune Albright Syndrome (MAS) is caused by a mutation in the GNAS gene that results in multiple endocrinopathies such as Cushing syndrome, acromegaly, hyperthyroidism, and precocious puberty. Despite the presence of pleiotropy coupled with a GNAS gene mutation, malignancy is a rare occurrence in MAS. There is minimal literature showcasing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the lung in patients with MAS. Here, we report a case of altered mental status and hypercalcemia in a 72-year-old female with a past medical history of fibrous dysplasia. On examination there was an expansive lesion of the le

INTRODUCTION: GNAS mutations have been reported in both McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) and juvenile granulosa cell tumors (JGCT) but have never been reported simultaneously in the same patient.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 15-year-old girl developed secondary oligomenorrhea. Laboratory studies revealed suppressed gonadotropin levels with markedly elevated estradiol and inhibin B levels. Pelvic ultrasound showed a 12-cm heterogeneous right adnexal mass; pelvic magnetic resonance imaging to further characterize the mass displayed heterogeneous bilateral femoral bone lesions initially concerning for met
