Ollier's disease (enchondromatosis) is a dysplasia of cartilage characterized by multiple enchondromas. Current evidence supports a measurable prevalence of concurrent gliomas in patients with Ollier's disease. In patients with Ollier's disease, isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) and isocitrate dehydrogenase 2 (IDH2) mutations were shown to be a predisposing factor to the development of astrocytomas in conjunction with subsequent mutations in adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-dependent helicase ATRX (ATRX) and tumor protein p53 (TP53). We present the case report of a 21-year-old man with an adolesce

Ollier disease is a rare skeletal dysplasia characterized by multifocal enchondromas and a 5%-50% lifetime risk of malignant transformation to chondrosarcoma. Whole-body mapping is essential for surveillance. 18F-FDG PET/CT shows limited sensitivity because of low glycolytic activity and physiologic uptake. This case highlights the superior performance of 18F-NaF PET/CT for osteoblastic lesion detection and anatomic delineation in a pediatric patient with IDH1-mutated Ollier disease.

PURPOSE: This report aims to raise clinical awareness of a rare case of Maffucci syndrome in a 34-year-old female presenting with diffuse intraductal breast papillomatosis. It further explores a possible hypothesis-generating pathogenic association between Maffucci syndrome and a specific subtype of papillary breast neoplasia in the context of shared molecular pathways involved in disease pathogenesis.
INTRODUCTION: Maffucci syndrome is a rare, congenital, nonhereditary disorder characterized by enchondromas, hemangiomas, and skeletal deformities, typically presenting in early childhood. Sinc

Patients with Ollier's Disease (OD) and Maffucci Syndrome (MS) are at risk for fractures, deformities, and limb-length discrepancies (LLDs). This study aims to determine the rate and types of surgery performed on these patients and evaluate the prevalence of developing a malignancy at a prior surgical site. A survey link was posted to a private online social media support group page specific to OD and MS patients. A total of 125 surveys were obtained from five continents. Two surveys were incomplete, and 123 surveys were evaluated with 109 OD and 14 MS patients. 89% had at least one surgery at

BACKGROUND: Hypophosphataemic rickets (HR) is a group of rare hereditary renal phosphate wasting disorders caused by mutations in the PHEX, FGF23, DMP1, ENPP1, CLCN5, SGK3, SLC9A3R1, SLC34A1 or SLC34A3.
OBJECTIVE: To identify the genetic defects in a patient with late-onset hypophosphatemia.
SUBJECTS: A 15-year old boy with hypophosphatemic rickets, his unaffected parents and 7 siblings.
DESIGN: Patients and their family members were initially analyzed for PHEX and FGF23 mutations by PCR-sequencing analysis. Exome and whole-genome sequencing were subsequently performed to identify causative

Ollier disease (OD) is the most common form of multiple enchondromatosis. It is an extremely rare disorder characterized by the development of multiple benign cartilaginous tumors, known as enchondromas. The prognosis is mainly determined by the risk of malignant transformation, which occurs in approximately 50% of patients within the first 30 yr of life. The disease is caused by somatic gain-of-function mutations in the IDH1 and IDH2 genes, identified in around 80% of cases of enchondromas and chondrosarcomas. Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a common endocrine disorder characterized by

INTRODUCTION: Ollier disease is a rare sporadic enchondromatosis characterized by multiple asymmetrically distributed enchondromas, progressive skeletal deformity, and risk of malignant transformation.
CASE REPORT: A 16-year-old boy presented with severe childhood-onset multifocal appendicular deformity, short stature, dysmorphic facies, developmental delay, and a giant left proximal humeral lesion that raised concern for secondary chondrosarcoma. The first swelling was noticed over the left hand at about 3 months of age, followed by progressive asymmetric lesions involving the upper limbs, p

Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a chronic and potentially sight-threatening disease. Topical corticosteroids (Cs) seem to be the only effective treatment for this condition, although severe side effects may occur owing to their prolonged use. More recently, cyclosporine (Cyc) eye drops have been reported as a valid alternative, but so far such treatment has only been successfully experimented for a short time and in small numbers of patients. The aim of our study is to evaluate the long term safety and efficacy of topical cyclosporine eye drops in children suffering from VKC. Over a perio

The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l

Chondrosarcomas are rare tumors occurring in middle age and older adults, defined by malignant cartilaginous matrix-producing neoplasms. Chondrosarcomas represent a heterogeneous group of tumors with diverse characteristics, management strategies and prognosis. The aim is to establish recommendations to support optimal practice for the diagnosis and treatment of chondrosarcomas within the framework of an expert group at the request of GroupOs and the French Sarcoma Group. The recommendations were developed by a multidisciplinary working and underwent thorough proofreading. The level of evidenc

Enchondromatosis secondary to Ollier disease (OD) is rare, with secondary chondrosarcomas (CS) accounting for only 1% of malignant osseous tumours. This is one of only two reports documenting four enchondromas of different bones of the same hand developing malignant transformation, with long-term follow-up. This is a 72-year-old female with histologically proven CS from multiple enchondromas of the index finger metacarpal and proximal phalanx, and middle finger proximal and middle phalanges. Six years following curettage and bone grafting, she showed no recurrence or metastases from CS. While

Multiple enchondromatosis (Ollier Disease) is characterized by the presence of enchondromas predominantly affecting long and flat bones, and only exceptionally involving cranial bones. The aim of this study is to highlight the extreme rarity of bilateral hand involvement in Ollier disease, occurring simultaneously with other unusual localizations - such as the scapula - and exceedingly rare ones, such as the vomer bone. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the psychological impact of this pathology and the need for appropriate psychological and psychiatric support for affected patients. A systema

First described by Ollier in 1899, Ollier disease is a rare, nonhereditary skeletal condition characterized by multiple enchondromas. Enchondromatosis can present bilaterally, often with a predominant side, and may manifest as monomelic or hemiskeletal involvement. Significant clinical challenges in Ollier disease include progressive limb shortening, angular deformities, and an elevated risk of pathologic fractures. In adult patients, malignant transformation is a potential concern. Calvarial involvement in Ollier disease is exceedingly rare, with only a few documented cases. Most reported ins

PURPOSE: Ollier's disease (multiple enchondromatosis) can cause severe lower limb length discrepancy and deformity in children. Osteotomy and limb lengthening with external fixation can correct the lower extremity deformity. There may be lesions in the osteotomy part (OP), and the internal fixation part of the external fixation(FP). This study aimed to evaluate: (1) whether lesions in OP and FP influence the lengthening length, speed, and deformity correction; (2) the number of intact sides of the OP and FP that are necessary to provide enough stability to achieve the lengthening correction ai

INTRODUCTION: ?Maffucci syndrome (MS) is a rare disorder with enchondromatosis associated with multiple hemangiomas in soft tissue and internal organs. Enchondromas in the long bone lead to limb length discrepancy, deformity, and pathological fractures that usually need corrective osteotomies and limb lengthening.
CASE REPORT: A female in her late adolescence with MS presented with significant varus deformity of the distal femur and left lower limb shortening of 11.5 cm. She underwent an acute correction of the varus with a distal femur osteotomy and gradual femoral lengthening using a monola

INTRODUCTION: Enchondroma of the hand is a common lesion with a recurrence rate of up to 13.3% after curettage and bone grafting. When hand enchondroma is suspected, less common conditions, such as multiple enchondromatosis syndromes and benign and malignant lesions, should be ruled out. Pathologic fractures often occur. Post-operative complications are typically joint stiffness and soft-tissue-related deformities, whereas recurrence and malignant degeneration of solitary lesions are much less common. Most patients return to full function after surgery.

We report a case of Olier's disease associated with finger agenesis in order to study the contribution of radiography in its diagnosis. It was a 7-year-old boy with no pathological history. He was received at the Medical Clinic "Les Etoiles" in Bamako on 07/20/2023 for malformation assessment. Radiographic exploration of the hands and feet had objectified multiple enchondromatosis of the hands and right knee associated with agenesis of the phalanges of the 1st and 2nd rays of the right hand. The radiologist must consider this in the face of bone deformities occurring at a young age.
