Understanding Chronic Hip Pain Through the ICF Framework: Implications for Assessment, Diagnosis, and Management.

Chronic hip pain is a prevalent musculoskeletal condition that can impair mobility, physical function, participation, and quality of life. Traditional assessment and management approaches often emphasize structural abnormalities and symptom control, but these approaches may not fully capture the broader functional, psychosocial, and contextual impact of chronic hip pain. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) provides a multidimensional framework for understanding health conditions through body structures and functions, activity and participation, and cont

CONGENITAL HEPATOPULMONARY FUSION IN RIGHT CONGENITAL DIAPHRAGMATIC HERNIA: SURGICAL STRATEGY AND OUTCOMES IN A MULTICENTER COHORT.

AIM: Congenital hepatopulmonary fusion (CHPF) is a rare anomaly associated with right congenital diaphragmatic hernia (RCDH), for which optimal diagnosis and surgical management remain undefined. This study aimed to explore the impact of surgical separation on outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective multicenter study reviewed neonates with intraoperatively or radiologically confirmed CHPF associated with RCDH. Demographic data, imaging, surgical strategy, and outcomes were analyzed. Patients were stratified according to whether surgical separation of the fusion was performed (CHPF-S) or not (CHPF-

Perioperative monitoring in oesophageal atresia and congenital diaphragmatic hernia patients - exploring the impact of diagnosis on neurocardiovascular coupling.

Neonates undergoing major surgical procedures are at risk for neurodevelopmental impairment. Previous research in patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) showed that signal interaction graphs, which combine data on near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), amplitude integrated electroencephalography (aEEG) and clinical monitoring, are a promising way of investigating cerebral physiology. Yet, variability in treatment and disease severity, inherent to CDH, complicated analysis. In contrast, neonates with isolated oesophageal atresia (OA) undergo major surgery but are typically hemodynamica

Acupuncture-Induced Pneumothorax Following Thoracic Acupuncture in a Patient With Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: A Case Report.

Acupuncture is widely used as an adjunctive therapy for chronic pain and headache disorders and is generally considered a safe procedure when performed by trained practitioners. However, pneumothorax remains one of its most serious, albeit uncommon, complications. Patients with connective tissue disorders, such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), may theoretically be more susceptible to procedure-related complications because of underlying tissue fragility, although reports describing acupuncture-induced pneumothorax in this population are exceptionally rare. We present the case of a young woman

Longitudinal co-variation of radiographic chest-wall thickness and transcutaneous-arterial CO₂ discrepancy in congenital diaphragmatic hernia: a single-patient case study.

BACKGROUND: Transcutaneous carbon dioxide (tcPCO₂) monitoring enables continuous non-invasive assessment of ventilation in neonates, but local tissue conditions may contribute to disagreement between tcPCO₂ and arterial PaCO₂ measurements. We explored within-patient temporal co-variation among radiographic chest-wall thickness, sensor heating power, and the discrepancy between tcPCO₂ and arterial PaCO₂ in a critically ill neonate. METHODS: We conducted an exploratory single-patient longitudinal case study over 28 days. Serial measurements of tcPCO₂, arterial PaCO₂, radiographic chest-wall thi

Femoral Nerve Palsy as a Complication of Pavlik Harness Treatment for Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip: Ten-Year Prospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Femoral nerve palsy (FNP) is a recognized complication of Pavlik harness (PH) treatment for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), but its true incidence and clinical significance may be underestimated. This prospective study aims to determine the incidence, risk factors, and clinical course of FNP in infants undergoing PH treatment, and to evaluate whether FNP predicts treatment failure. METHODS: A 10-year prospective study (2015 to 2025) was conducted on all infants treated with a PH for Graf II to IV DDH at a specialist center. Patients were reviewed weekly with clinical and

A method for early ultrasound classification of developmental dysplasia of the hip in infants: combining YOLOv8-based keypoint detection with radiomics.

This study introduces an innovative method for early ultrasound classification of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in infants, integrating key point detection based on the YOLOv8 model with radiomics. Leveraging YOLOv8's advanced capabilities, the method accurately identifies and locates key anatomical landmarks in pediatric hip ultrasound images. Constructing angular information through these key points serves as a crucial clinical feature for DDH classification. By fusing these clinical features with radiomic features, the method further characterizes hip joint morphology and functio

Deep learning for developmental dysplasia of the hip: comparative classification strategies for ultrasound imaging with heterogeneous image quality.

Computer-assisted diagnostic tools may help improve the consistency and reliability of ultrasonographic screening for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). This study aimed to compare preprocessing strategies for convolutional neural network (CNN)-based classification of infant hip ultrasound images under heterogeneous image quality conditions. We evaluated six approaches for classifying infant hip ultrasound images as normal or abnormal: original-image CNN classification, CycleGAN-based domain translation in two directions, DeepLabV3-Plus-based segmentation preprocessing, and two combined

Selective percutaneous myofasciotomy in persistent toe-walking: Anatomical rationale and surgical technique.

UNLABELLED: Persistent toe-walking is a gait abnormality characterized by forefoot initial contact and reduced or absent heel strike beyond early childhood. Although often regarded as a transient developmental variant, persistence of this pattern may lead to progressive limitation of ankle dorsiflexion, fixed equinus contracture, and long-term functional impairment. Toe-walking may occur as an isolated idiopathic condition or in association with neurological, neuromuscular, or genetic disorders. Increasing evidence suggests that a subset of patients previously classified as idiopathic harbor u

Mortality, Bowel Preservation, and Surgical Strategy in Closing and Closed Gastroschisis: A Systematic Review and Individual Participant Data Meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Closing and closed gastroschisis represent the most severe end of the gastroschisis spectrum, carrying high mortality and risk for short bowel syndrome (SBS). No individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis exists, and the choice for opting an optimal surgical strategy, intracorporeal parking versus primary resection, is unresolved. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library (inception to June 2026) for studies reporting patient-level data on closing, closed, or vanishing gastroschisis, following the PRISMA-IPD guidelines. Individual data were

Surgical and orthodontic management of class III malocclusion in monozygotic twins using bilateral sagittal split osteotomy.

This case report discusses the genetic influence and treatment of class III malocclusion in identical twin sisters, in their early 20s, who presented with mandibular prognathism. Both exhibited concave profiles with hypodivergent growth patterns, but Sister A had a more pronounced concavity. Diagnosis revealed skeletal class III malocclusion with mandibular prognathism and negative overjet (9 mm in Sister A, 6 mm in Sister B). Treatment involved pre-surgical orthodontics, bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) with mandibular setbacks (7 mm for Sister A, 5 mm for Sister B), followed by post

MOLECULAR AND CLINICAL FEATURES OF KYPHOSCOLIOTIC EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROME DUE TO LYSYL HYDROXYLASE 1 DEFICIENCY.

Kyphoscoliotic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (kEDS) is caused by biallelic pathogenic variants in either PLOD1, encoding the enzyme lysyl hydroxylase 1 (LH1), which is crucial for collagen lysine hydroxylation and crosslink formation or in FKBP14, encoding the collagen chaperone FKBP22. This study aims to define the clinical and molecular spectrum of kEDS-PLOD1, phenotypically compare it with kEDS-FKBP14 and explore the consequences of pathogenic PLOD1 variants on collagen biosynthesis. We studied the clinical features of 93 individuals with biallelic PLOD1 variants, including 13 unreported patients.

Negative symptom dimensions link cognitive impairment to global and social functioning in 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.

BACKGROUND: 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11DS) confers a 20-30% lifetime risk of schizophrenia, with negative symptoms associated with poorer outcomes and higher psychosis risk. High rates of neurocognitive deficits, autism spectrum traits (ASD), and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may further complicate symptom profiles and functional outcomes. We examined relationships among positive and negative symptom severity, ASD traits, ADHD symptoms, and global functioning in 22q11DS. METHODS: Individuals with 22q11DS (n = 38) and healthy comparison subjects (n = 34) completed clinic
