BACKGROUND: Previous research identified an Ehlers-Danlos (EDS)-like phenotype in fragile X premutation (FXPC) women. This preliminary research examines associations between the presence of this connective tissue phenotype, FMR1 genotype and immune-mediated, autonomic-mediated and endocrine-mediated symptoms.
METHODS: Women with FXPC (n=11; mean age=44 years, SD=9.9) were recruited from Greenwood Genetic Centre and southern Louisiana. Most participants were mothers or close female relatives of individuals with fragile X syndrome. Participants were assessed for hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndro

BACKGROUND: Respiratory symptoms in Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) and generalized hypermobility spectrum disorder (G-HSD) may negatively impact health-related quality of life (HRQL) and daily functioning. EDS/G-HSD patients report unmet respiratory symptom management needs that are poorly understood.
OBJECTIVES: 1) characterize respiratory symptoms and their associations with HRQL, physical activity, and patient-reported outcomes in EDS/G-HSD; and 2) explore respiratory symptom management needs and their impact on daily function.
METHODS: We conducted a mixed-methods study at the GoodHope EDS

Maladaptive stress responses may exacerbate chronic widespread pain (CWP) and deserve further investigations. Yet, existing stress induction paradigms lack relevance for individuals with CWP. Patients often report intense stress in response to medical appointments due to the experience of stigma, distrust, and a lack of common understanding about their condition and level of disability. Hence, we developed the Social Benefits Stress Test (SBST), based on the Trier Social Stress Test, replacing the mock job interview, by a fake medical examination where the participant needed to justify their w

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) is the most common subtype of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a group of connective tissue disorders caused by collagen abnormalities. While musculoskeletal features of hEDS are well characterized, its impact on visceral organs, including the bladder, remains underexplored. Despite frequent patient reports of urinary symptoms, a definitive link between hEDS and bladder pathology has not been established. This study aims to characterize lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and urodynamic (UDS) findings in patients with hEDS to better

Slipping rib syndrome (SRS) is an underdiagnosed condition causing chronic debilitating thoracic wall pain due to hypermobility of costal cartilage and irritation of intercostal nerves. Conservative management includes analgesics and intercostal nerve blocks. When these measures fail, surgical rib fixation is considered. This case is the first reported successful use of intercostal nerve radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as a preoperative bridge in the management of SRS. We report a case of a 25-year-old woman with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and slipping rib syndrome who developed recurren

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Individuals with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and hypermobility spectrum disorder have an increased burden of foregut gastrointestinal symptoms, specifically dysphagia and reflux symptoms, vs non-hypermobile individuals. The overall aim of this study was to evaluate esophageal motility and 24-hour pH-impedance patterns among patients with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome/hypermobility spectrum disorder and compare these with contemporaneous patient controls.
METHODS: Consecutive outpatients with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome/hypermobility spectrum disorder and

A 39-year-old man with recurrent spontaneous (including bilateral) pneumothoraces and haemoptysis had unusual thoracic computed tomography (CT) abnormalities. In the absence of typical phenotypic features, these radiological findings prompted genetic testing, which confirmed a pathogenic COL3A1 mutation and established the diagnosis of vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Recognizing these radiological patterns prevents misdiagnosis and enables crucial, potentially life-saving vascular management.

BACKGROUND: Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) encompasses a variety of collagen disorders characterized by joint hypermobility, skin laxity, and tissue fragility. Evidence to guide plastic surgeons for both elective and reconstructive procedures is limited and consists predominantly of case reports and series. As higher-level comparative data are scarce, synthesizing case-level data remains essential to understand surgical risks, considerations, and postoperative outcomes in this patient population.
METHODS: A narrative review of case reports and series was conducted using PRISMA guidelines across

Musculocontractural Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (mcEDS) is a rare connective tissue disorder characterized by abnormal collagen structure, tissue fragility, and predisposition to disproportionate hematoma formation following trivial trauma. Large expanding hematomas may lead to tissue necrosis, thereby requiring urgent decision-making and rapid intervention. We report a case of a 10-year-old boy with mcEDS and Dandy-Walker syndrome who presented after a minor fall with rapidly progressive swelling of the right lower limb and a history of recurrent post-traumatic hematomas. Clinical deterioration pr

The Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) comprise a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of heritable connective tissue disorders marked by skin hyperextensibility, joint hypermobility, and tissue fragility. Vascular EDS (vEDS) is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by pathogenic variants in COL3A1, the gene encoding type III collagen. The diagnosis of vEDS is confirmed by identifying a pathogenic variant in COL3A1. This systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines. Major outcomes included maternal, fetal, and neonatal complications in EDS pregnancies. A comprehensiv

BACKGROUND: Splenic artery aneurysm (SAA) with splenic arteriovenous fistula (SAVF) is rare. Endovascular embolisation offers a minimally invasive, spleen-preserving alternative to surgery, particularly in patients with connective tissue disorders. This case report describes a technically challenging proximal SAA with high-flow SAVF successfully treated using dual-balloon-assisted coil and N-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) glue embolisation, with special consideration for vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS).
CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old short-statured woman with micrognathia had computed to

BACKGROUND: Multidirectional shoulder instability (MDI) remains a challenging clinical problem, particularly in patients with connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). While MDI may often be successfully treated nonoperatively, surgical intervention is indicated when conservative management fails. While open or arthroscopic capsular shift is often used, allograft tissue augmentation may be required for patients with recurrent instability and deficient capsular tissue. The purpose of this study was to evaluate long-term patient-reported outcomes following open capsular s

BACKGROUND: Autonomic nervous system dysfunction is highly prevalent in hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and contributes substantially to multisystem symptoms and reduced quality of life. Neuroimmune dysregulation and chronic low-grade inflammation are increasingly recognized as key mechanisms underlying these manifestations. Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) may restore autonomic balance and engage the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway.
METHODS: In this prospective, single-center, open-label pilot study, fourteen consecutive female patients with hEDS and d

UNLABELLED: Collaboration is a fundamental practice across various disciplines, including education and school-based services such as special education (McLeskey et al., 2017), speech-language pathology (ASHA, 2024), school psychology (NASP, 2020), social work (NASW, 2012), and applied behavior analysis (BACB, 2020; BACB, 2022). This study examined how behavior analysts describe and engage in collaborative practices in school settings, analyzing qualitative data from 253 survey responses. Four primary themes emerged: (1) valuing the expertise of all team members, including families; (2) focusi

Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDSs) are heritable connective tissue disorders caused by defects in collagen and related extracellular matrix proteins. Because the vocal fold (VF) lamina propria is a collagen-dependent structure, the voice might be expected to be affected, yet voice and laryngeal involvement has received comparatively little attention. This scoping review, conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute framework and reported following the PRISMA extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), mapped the available evidence on voice and laryngeal manifestations in adults with EDS.
