Fibrocystic disease within an axillary accessory breast (Kajava class IV): a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Accessory breast tissue is a congenital anomaly occurring in 0.4-6% of the population, most commonly in the axilla. While this tissue is subject to the same physiological and pathological changes as orthotopic breast tissue, fibrocystic disease presenting as a large axillary mass is rare, representing a diagnostic challenge that mimics lipomas and other conditions common in the axillary region. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of 33-year-old female who presented with a chronic painful mass in the left axilla that have been present for 10 years. Clinical examination revealed a

Cystic Neutrophilic Granulomatous Mastitis in Accessory Breast Tissue: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Cystic neutrophilic granulomatous mastitis (CNGM) is a rare inflammatory breast disease characterized by granulomatous inflammation with cystic spaces and neutrophilic infiltration. CNGM involving accessory breast tissue is exceptionally uncommon and has only rarely been reported. Due to its nonspecific clinical manifestations, CNGM may be misdiagnosed, potentially resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment. CASE PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old woman presented with swelling and pain in the right axillary region. Ultrasonography revealed an inflammatory lesion within accessory breast

Ultra-Sensitive Detection of Bone Metastasis From Accessory Breast Cancer Using HER2 PET/CT: A Case Report.

We presented the imaging findings of 18 F-FDG and 68 Ga-HER2 affibody PET/CT in a 52-year-old woman with HER2-positive accessory breast cancer in the right axilla. 18 F-FDG and HER2 PET/CT showed avid uptake of multiple axillary lesions. HER2 PET/CT identified extensive bone metastases with intense uptake, while the ⁹⁹ᵐTc-MDP whole bone scan was negative, and only a few bone lesions with mild tracer uptake were detected by 18 F-FDG PET/CT. Following 6 cycles of the TCbHP regimen, the axillary lesions markedly reduced. This case demonstrates that HER2 PET/CT enables more sensitive detection of

Male accessory breast mucinous carcinoma: a case report and literature review.

Accessory breast carcinoma represents a distinct ectopic malignancy comprising approximately 0.3-0.6% of all mammary neoplasms, of which male accessory breast cancer is even rarer. This condition typically manifests as a progressively enlarging mass, predominantly situated in the axillary or inguinal regions, and may present with early lymph node metastasis. Pathological examination remains the diagnostic gold standard, whereas ultrasound, mammography, and MRI serve as critical adjunctive modalities. Current therapeutic strategies for accessory breast carcinoma largely mirror established breas

Breast reconstruction in supernumerary breast and ectopic breast tissue in Poland's syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Poland's syndrome is a rare congenital condition characterized by anterior chest wall malformations and, frequently, ipsilateral upper limb deformities. Treatment strategies vary depending on severity and may involve complex reconstructive approaches. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 20-year-old female with Poland's syndrome who exhibited left-sided supernumerary nipple and significant breast asymmetry. Clinical examination revealed two vertically aligned nipples and accessory breast tissue 6 cm lateral to the midclavicular line. The patient also presented with agenesis

Axillary fibroadenoma: A rare case report and review of literature.

Fibroadenoma (FA) is a common benign tumor of the breast, but its occurrence in the axillary region is exceptionally rare. Such lesions may arise from accessory breast tissue or develop de novo within axillary stromal tissue, often mimicking lymphadenopathy or other soft-tissue masses. This report presents a rare axillary FA in a young female, highlighting its unusual site and diagnostic importance. A 23-year-old woman presented with a painless swelling in the left axilla that had gradually increased in size over 5 months. Ultrasound showed an oval, heterogeneously hypoechoic axillary mass wit

Primary leiomyosarcoma of the axilla in a 70-year-old female: a case report of multidisciplinary management from a resource-limited setting.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Soft tissue sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal origin. Sarcomas constitute a rare subgroup that usually affects younger age groups. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 70-year-old female who presented with a right axillary mass that had gradually increased in size over the last 8 months. Imaging revealed a heterogeneously enhancing mass that was free from the underlying muscle and joint capsule but was splaying the axillary vessels. Upfront resection of the mass was planned in the multidisciplinary meeting. Mass was excised with

Large axillary galactocele mimicking a soft-tissue tumor in accessory breast tissue: a rare clinical entity.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Accessory breast tissue is a developmental anomaly that may be subject to the same hormonal influences as normal breast tissue. A galactocele, a benign milk-retention cyst, typically affects lactating women but is exceedingly rare in axillary accessory breast tissue. Because an axillary galactocele can mimic lymphadenopathy, lipoma, or malignancy, it often poses a diagnostic challenge. CASE PRESENTATION: A 33-year-old multiparous lactating woman presented with a progressively enlarging right axillary swelling that had become mildly painful over time. Examination r

Non-invasive Reduction of Accessory Breast Fat Using Multilayer High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound: A Quantitative Ultrasound-Based Study.

OBJECTIVES: Accessory breast tissue often presents as localized axillary subcutaneous fullness, presenting as a palpable soft-tissue bulge composed of adipose or glandular elements, causing mechanical discomfort and esthetic concern. While surgical excision remains effective, it ma result in scarring, postoperative pain, and risks of seroma/hematoma or contour irregularity, leading to growing interest in noninvasive approaches. The objective of the study is to investigate the effect of noninvasive high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) on subcutaneous fat thickness in axillary accessory brea

Axillary Accessory Breast Cancer Performed Reconstruction Using a Local Flap: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Accessory breast cancer is rare, with approximately two-thirds of cases arising in the axillary region. Wide local excision is commonly performed; however, large axillary defects can lead to postoperative scar contractures and limited range of motion in the ipsilateral upper limb. CASE PRESENTATION: A 67-year-old woman presented with a palpable mass and erythema in the left axilla. Physical examination revealed a 2-cm indurated lesion with erythema in the left axilla. Ultrasonography revealed an irregular 14-mm hypoechoic mass with suspected dermal invasion. Skin punch biopsy su

Case Report: A rare triad of neoplasms: navigating synchronous accessory breast cancer, papillary thyroid carcinoma, and inflammatory nasal papilloma.

BACKGROUND: The differential diagnosis of an isolated axillary mass in a woman with normal breast imaging presents a significant clinical challenge, with accessory breast carcinoma being a critical yet often overlooked entity. The concurrent management of multiple primary tumors further complicates therapeutic decision-making. CASE PRESENTATION: A 60-year-old woman presented with a 1-year history of a painless, enlarging left axillary mass. Initial imaging revealed a BI-RADS 5 lesion in the left axilla with suspicious lymph nodes, but no primary breast abnormality; subsequent breast MRI confi

The pharmacotherapy for pediatric obesity: insights and challenges from adult weight-loss medications.

Obesity significantly increases the risk of developing other chronic diseases and shortens the life expectancy by 5 to 8 years. Childhood obesity is particularly prominent as 80% of teenagers with obesity have shown it to persist into adulthood. With reference to the development of adult medication, the present review summarises the recent research progress in the development of pediatric anti-obesity drugs. The current management guidelines support the use of medication for adolescents aged 12 and above when lifestyle measures are ineffective. Early weight-loss drugs like the serotonergic ago

Accessory Breast Carcinoma Masquerading as a Sebaceous Cyst in a Breast Cancer Survivor: A Diagnostic Pitfall in Axillary Assessment.

Accessory breast carcinoma is an uncommon malignancy and is often diagnosed late because it could mimic a benign axillary lesion. We report the case of a 63-year-old woman with a prior history of left breast cancer treated with breast-conserving surgery and radiotherapy who later developed a palpable right axillary lump. The lesion had initially been assessed clinically as a sebaceous cyst and was not definitively investigated for 23 months. During routine breast surveillance, mammography and targeted ultrasound revealed a new suspicious lesion arising within accessory axillary breast tissue,

Longitudinal assessment of physiological and mental health changes following acute COVID-19 in Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Understanding synapse-specific effects of neuroinflammation can provide mechanistic and therapeutically relevant insights across the spectrum of neurological diseases. METHODS: We applied neuron-specific proteomic biotinylation in vivo, differential centrifugation of brain for crude synaptosome enrichment (P2 fraction) and mass spectrometry (MS) analysis of biotinylated proteins to derive native-state proteomes of Camk2a-positive neurons and their corresponding P2 synaptic compartments. Next, in an in vivo model of systemic lipopolysaccharide (LPS) dosing, we examined the effects

Accessory Breast Apocrine Carcinoma: Report of a Rare Case.

Axillary apocrine carcinoma may arise from cutaneous adnexal glands or breast tissue, including accessory breast tissue. Accessory breast carcinoma is rare, and apocrine carcinoma represents an uncommon histologic subtype of breast cancer. For accessory breast carcinoma, wide local excision and lymph node dissection is generally recommended. Postoperative therapy, including endocrine therapy, is considered following treatment strategies for breast cancer. We report an extremely rare case of accessory breast apocrine carcinoma (ABAC). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case documen

Characteristics of patients hospitalized for diabetic foot in a national hospital in Peru, 2024.

INTRODUCTION: Expansive processes around the third ventricle have always been a major neurosurgical challenge. Despite all the technological and scientific progress recorded over the last few years, third ventricle tumors are still a very difficult pathology to approach due to their formidable complexity.Treating such a tumor demands a good knowledge of local anatomy, pathophysiology, pathology and a good capacity to integrate all the data gathered from the patient prior to and during surgery. Last but not least, the correct means to approach such a tumor involves using modern neuronavigation

Accessory breast plasma cell mastitis managed with traditional Chinese medicine: A case report.

RATIONALE: Plasma cell mastitis occurring in accessory breast tissue is a rare and diagnostically challenging disease. This case report aims to raise clinicians' awareness of this condition when they encounter axillary masses, and avoid unnecessary interventions on the normal breast tissue. It also demonstrates the feasibility of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as a conservative treatment for patients unwilling to undergo hormone therapy or surgery. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 30-year-old nulliparous woman presented with a 1-month history of a 4 × 5 cm mass in the left axilla. Empirical antibiotic
