The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Accessory breast is a rare condition where regression of the mammary ridge fails. This ectopic breast can function as the same pectoral breast and respond to hormonal effects. Furthermore, in rare cases, it can develop into malignancy. A malignant accessory breast is very rare, especially in male patients. Although it had first been reported in a male in 1957, there were only a few reported cases following that with no sufficient epidemiological data.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 60-year-old male with right axilla swelling is thought to be a benign lesion for excision. Ho

Accessory breast tissue can appear along the mammary ridge, extending from the axilla to the groin, with the axilla being the most common site. Malignancies arising in accessory breast tissue are rare, representing approximately 0.3%-0.6% of all breast cancer cases. When evaluating accessory breasts, it is essential to apply the same management strategies used for conventionally positioned breasts. This report presents a case of ductal carcinoma in situ originating from accessory breast tissue in the axilla of a 55-year-old woman. The diagnosis was established through a comprehensive assessmen

Primary breast cancer occurring in accessory breast tissue is exceptionally rare, with an incidence of 0.2-0.6%. It can aggressively progress, often leading to early metastasis. Treatment is typically delayed due to the rarity, variety of differentials, and lack of clinical awareness of the disease. In axillary surgery, sentinel lymph node mapping in patients with axillary breast cancer is technically challenging and has been poorly described. Here, we present a case of a 53-year-old woman with a 0.5 × 1 cm hard lump in the right axillary region for 2 years, progressive growth for 6 months, an

PURPOSE: Pathologic lesions may occur in an axillary accessory breast (AAB). This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of tumors arising from AABs and to recommend appropriate treatment.
METHODS: This retrospective study involved 3,544 women (18-65 years old) with AAB at Damsoyu Hospital in Korea from 2014 to 2023. The patients were divided into an AAB with benign tumors (TAAB) group and an AAB without tumors (AAB) group, and the tumors' pathologies were reviewed. A core biopsy was performed on tumors with possible malignancy identified by preoperative ultrasonography. All patients und

BACKGROUND: Non-lactational Mastitis of Accessory Breast (NLM-AB) is a rare condition with limited research, leading to diagnostic challenges. Its clinical and demographic characteristics are poorly defined, and it is often confused with non-lactational mastitis (NLM), hindering effective diagnosis and treatment.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to clarify the features of NLM-AB, distinguish it from NLM, and address key knowledge gaps to improve clinical diagnosis and patient management.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data from 31 NLM-AB patients treated at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Ch

Accessory breast cancer is a relatively rare condition, and to our knowledge, no previous reports have described synchronous ipsilateral cancers of the breast and the axillary accessory breast. We report a unique case involving a 70-year-old female patient with luminal A subtype breast cancer and triple-negative accessory breast cancer. The axillary tumor, which had become ulcerative and exudative, was diagnosed as an accessory breast cancer with high Programmed Cell Death Ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression. Treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors targeting PD-L1 was effective. This case highligh

Fibromatosis is a rare neoplasm characterized by fibroblastic and myofibroblastic proliferation. Fibromatosis that occurred in the accessory breast has never been reported in the literature worldwide. We present a case of extra-abdominal fibromatosis of the accessory breast occurring in a 36-year-old Chinese female patient. The tumor was hard with unclear boundaries and adhered to surrounding tissues (6 × 4 × 3 cm). Despite that malignancy was initially suspected based on clinical, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results, histopathology and immunohistochemistry showed an unexp

Accessory breast tissue, or polymastia, is a rare developmental anomaly resulting from incomplete regression of the embryonic mammary ridge. While often asymptomatic, accessory breast tissue can respond to hormonal fluctuations, leading to pain, swelling, or lactation. We present the case of a 39-year-old woman with bilateral axillary accessory breast tissue and accessory nipples, who reported cyclical pain and lactation from the accessory tissue during nursing. Her symptoms, exacerbated during menstruation, significantly impacted her quality of life. Diagnostic imaging confirmed benign glandu

Axillary breast is a congenital anomaly of breast development that is often overlooked in surgical literature. It is commonly located in the axilla and can be misdiagnosed, especially if unilateral. It may present with or without pain and limitation of arm movement. We present three cases of painless axillary swellings. The first patient had a slowly growing swelling, the second experienced size changes related to hormones, and the third noticed a change during lactation. All had mobile, non-tender soft masses consistent with axillary breasts. The first two underwent surgical excision without

Supernumerary breasts are a rare congenital malformation that can cause physical and psychological problems such as pain, infection, bleeding and aesthetic discomfort. In this article, we present a series of cases with bilateral axillary supernumerary breasts who were treated with liposuction and mastectomy, with satisfactory results. We also discuss the different surgical techniques available for the treatment of supernumerary breasts and their respective advantages and disadvantages.

BACKGROUND: Accessory breast carcinoma, arising from embryologically persistent mammary tissue, is exceptionally rare in males, accounting for 2.4%-5.3% of all accessory breast malignancies. Due to limited clinical data, standardized diagnostic and therapeutic protocols remain undefined.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 72-year-old male presented with a 3-year history of a painless, mobile right axillary mass. Ultrasonography revealed a solid hypoechoic nodule with moderate vascularity. Histopathological examination confirmed invasive ductal carcinoma (grade II) with infiltrative growth, ER/PR/AR positiv

Eccrine carcinoma is an exceedingly rare malignancy originating from the eccrine sweat glands, representing less than 0.01% of all cutaneous malignancies. The diagnosis of eccrine carcinoma is challenging due to its rarity. Its morphological similarities with other common tumors, especially breast cancer, further complicate assessment. It is crucial to differentiate eccrine carcinoma from metastatic breast cancer. In addition, the standard treatment is also not well established. We present the case of a 66-year-old female with a lesion on her left lip. Initially identified in 2017, the lesion

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a rare inflammatory condition that primarily affects the breasts, and its occurrence in accessory breast tissue is even rarer. The present report describes the case of a patient with GM in the accessory breast. A 43-year-old female patient presented with a 1-month history of pain in the left axilla and breast. An analysis of her medical and surgical history did not reveal any notable findings, but she had a history of four full-term pregnancies and a cumulative lactation period of 4 years. Upon a clinical examination, a palpable, ill-defined, tender mass was note

Accessory breast is seen in 0.4 to 6% of women and its most common location is axilla. Normal breast diseases like fibrocystic disease, fibroadenoma, and carcinomas can also be seen in accessory breast. However, the true prevalence of fibrocystic changes in the accessory breast is not known. We present the case of a woman with right sided axillary swelling which was initially thought to be a lipoma but on histological examination, it was diagnosed as a case of accessory breast with fibrocystic changes. Thus, while dealing with patients having swelling in axilla, accessory breast with its disea

INTRODUCTION: Lipodystrophies are conditions characterized by a loss of subcutaneous fat, which can be congenital or acquired, and present in various patterns of fat distribution. Accurate diagnosis is essential for identifying comorbidities and ensuring appropriate multidisciplinary care and targeted treatments.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 34-year-old female experienced significant facial changes and increased abdominal fat over five years. She had lumps under her armpits discharging white fluid, with clinical findings of low hemoglobin and accessory breast tissue, which was surgically excised.

Clear cell papulosis of the skin is a rare condition in children characterized by multiple small hypopigmented macules or flat papules, predominantly distributed in the pubic area and over the abdomen, chest, and axillae, along the milk lines, and by mucin- and cytokeratin 7-positive large clear cells within the epidermis. Associations of clear cell papulosis with other diseases or disorders have been rarely described. We present a case of clear cell papulosis associated with a congenital sacral dermoid cyst, nevus of Ota, presumed accessory breast tissue, thin and lightly pigmented hair, cong

Secretory breast carcinoma (SBC) is a rare tumour defined by ETV6-NTRK3 rearrangement, but its clinicopathological spectrum and potential for aggressive behaviour remain incompletely characterised. We retrospectively reviewed 29 SBCs diagnosed between 2014 and 2024, including 28 females and one male aged 12-63 years (median 44). Twenty-eight tumours arose in the breast parenchyma and one in axillary accessory breast tissue. Histologically, microcystic and tubular patterns predominated and carcinoma in situ was common. Most tumours were nuclear grade 1 with rare mitoses (0-1/10 high-power field
