Simultaneous Robot-Assisted Distal Gastrectomy and Radical Cystectomy With a Shared Port Configuration in Situs Inversus Totalis.

INTRODUCTION: Situs inversus totalis complicates minimally invasive surgery, and simultaneous robotic surgery for tumors of different organs is particularly challenging. CASE PRESENTATION: A 72-year-old man with situs inversus totalis receiving androgen blockade for prostate cancer developed a 40-mm muscle-invasive bladder tumor undetected on magnetic resonance imaging 7 months earlier; synchronous gastric cancer was also diagnosed. After four chemotherapy cycles, robot-assisted distal gastrectomy and radical cystectomy with an ileal conduit were performed in one session, sharing four of eigh

Case Report: Angiography-guided transvenous single-chamber pacemaker implantation in mirror-image dextrocardia with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries.

BACKGROUND: Mirror-image dextrocardia with situs inversus is uncommon. Transvenous permanent pacemaker implantation is technically demanding when it coexists with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA), because venous access, atrioventricular valve crossing, and fluoroscopic lead orientation may differ from usual anatomy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old man was admitted with recurrent dizziness and palpitations for 5 years; his symptoms had worsened during the preceding 2 weeks. Preoperative 12-lead electrocardiography showed atrial fibrillation with a slow ventri

Managing Choledocholithiasis in Rare Congenital Hepatobiliary Anomalies: A Report of Three Cases.

Background: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is an established therapeutic modality for pancreaticobiliary disease. Congenital anatomical anomalies, including situs inversus totalis and rare hepatobiliary malformations, substantially increase the technical complexity of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and are seldom encountered in clinical practice. Published experience is limited predominantly to individual case reports and smaller case series. Methods: We present a report of three patients who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography: two with sit

Left-sided surgical approach for tricuspid valve replacement in congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries with dextrocardia and situs inversus totalis: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA) is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly characterized by atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance, resulting in a physiologically corrected circulation. When ccTGA is combined with dextrocardia and situs inversus totalis, surgical management becomes particularly challenging because of the mirror-image anatomy and altered spatial orientation. CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old man presented with progressive dyspnea and was diagnosed with ccTGA accompanied by dextrocardia and situs inversus totalis. Transthorac

Primary borderline retroperitoneal mucinous cystic neoplasm and situs inversus totalis: a case report.

Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystic neoplasms (PRMCNs) are rare tumors classified into cystadenoma, PRMCN with borderline malignancy (PRMCN-BM), and cystadenocarcinoma. We report a 60-year-old woman with left flank abdominal pain whose MRI revealed situs inversus totalis alongside a complex cystic lesion in the left retroperitoneum measuring 4.8 × 5.2 × 4.5 cm. She underwent laparotomy with complete resection of the lesion, and histopathology confirmed a primary retroperitoneal neoplasm with borderline malignancy, with an uneventful postoperative course and no recurrence after 8 months. Ablation in Dextrocardia With Interrupted Inferior Vena Cava and Azygos Continuation to Coronary Sinus.

BACKGROUND: Atrial fibrillation ablation in dextrocardia with interrupted inferior vena cava presents formidable technical challenges, particularly when anomalous systemic venous return distorts interatrial septal relationships. CASE SUMMARY: A 58-year-old man with drug-refractory paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, situs inversus totalis with dextrocardia, and inferior vena cava interruption with azygos continuation to the coronary sinus underwent catheter ablation. Lacking an inferior route, a superior approach through the left internal jugular vein was selected. Under intracardiac echocardiogr

A case report of Mirizzi syndrome type II in a patient with situs inversus totalis treated with laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

INTRODUCTION: Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare congenital condition characterized by complete mirror-image transposition of the thoracic and abdominal organs. Mirizzi syndrome is an uncommon complication of cholelithiasis that can substantially increase the technical difficulty of cholecystectomy. IMPORTANCE: The coexistence of SIT and Mirizzi syndrome is exceedingly rare and presents unique challenges related to altered anatomy, operative orientation, and surgical ergonomics. CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old man with SIT, Kartagener syndrome, Hirschsprung disease, chronic obstructive

Perioperative considerations for total knee arthroplasty in a patient with situs inversus totalis: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Situs inversus totalis is a rare congenital condition characterized by complete mirror-image transposition of the thoracic and abdominal organs. Although situs inversus totalis is commonly discussed in cardiothoracic and abdominal surgery, its implications for orthopedic procedures, such as total knee arthroplasty, remain poorly described. CASE PRESENTATION: A woman in her late 60s presented with progressive right knee pain due to degenerative joint disease. Computed tomography incidentally revealed situs inversus totalis. Following multidisciplinary evaluation, a right total kn

Kartagener syndrome with pulmonary mycetoma and recurrent thromboembolism: A case report.

RATIONALE: Kartagener syndrome, a variant of primary ciliary dyskinesia, is defined by chronic sinusitis, bronchiectasis, and situs inversus. While recurrent infections are seen, a combination of thromboembolic disease, pulmonary mycetoma, cardiac dysfunction, and serological evidence of autoimmune disorders is very uncommon. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 27-year-old man with Kartagener syndrome and situs inversus totalis complaining of worsening dyspnea, chest pain, fever, hemoptysis, and ankle swelling. His past medical history included episodes of deep vein thrombosis, recurrent pulmonary embolism,

Acute Appendicitis as an Incidental Diagnosis of Situs Inversus Totalis: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Acute appendicitis in patients with situs inversus totalis (SIT) represents a diagnostic challenge because the clinical presentation frequently differs from the classic right lower quadrant pain pattern. We present the case of a 37-year-old male with acute appendicitis associated with previously undiagnosed SIT, identified incidentally during diagnostic imaging. The patient presented with left lower quadrant abdominal pain, leukocytosis, and localized tenderness. Computed tomography revealed dextrocardia and left-sided inflammatory changes compatible with acute appendicitis in the setting of S

Laparoscopic hemicolectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis for ascending colon cancer in situs inversus totalis: a case report and literature review.

Ascending colon cancer complicated by situs inversus totalis (SIT) represents an extremely rare clinical entity. This congenital anatomical variant substantially increases surgical complexity, and published clinical reports regarding this condition remain scarce. Herein, we report a patient who underwent laparoscopic radical right hemicolectomy (LRH) with intracorporeal anastomosis (IA), accompanied by an operative video. We further reviewed the available published literature to accumulate additional surgical experience for managing this rare disease.

Anterior Osteophytes at L3-L4 as a Primary Predictor of Adjacent Segment Degeneration After Lumbar Instrumented Fusion.

INTRODUCTION: Degenerative lumbar spine disorder (DLSD) is a significant public health concern, presenting with low back pain, radicular leg pain, and reduced quality of life. Although conservative management is the first-line treatment, some patients require surgery due to persistent symptoms or progressive neurological deficits. Lumbar instrumented fusion is a commonly performed procedure for DLSD. Adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) is a frequent complication after spinal fusion, occurring at either the cranial or caudal side of the fusion mass. While the role of spinopelvic parameters in A
