Thermal conductivity and optical phonon scattering of CMOS compatible aluminum nitride based ferroelectric thin films.

The emergence of ferroelectricity in doped aluminum nitride has positioned wurtzite nitrides as promising candidates for next-generation memory and logic devices. However, the structural modifications required to induce and stabilize ferroelectricity, including changes in bond strength, harmonicity, and crystal order, also affect phonon dynamics, creating competing pathways for polarization reversal and thermal transport. In this work, we report the contrasting roles of dopants in governing ferroelectric and thermal properties in Al1-xBxN and Al1-x-yBxScyN thin films where changes in compositi

The life cycle of the tapeworm Dibothriocephalus latus in the Alpine region: What we know, what we miss, and how it is maintained.

Dibothriocephalus latus is a broad fish tapeworm with a complex life cycle that requires three host stages - copepods, fish, and mammals, including humans. Over the last 25 years, the prevalence of D. latus has noticeably declined in many parts of Europe, with the exception of the Alpine region. Recent studies have shown that D. latus is prevalent in fish from sub-alpine lakes, the second intermediate host, which suggests its presence also in copepods and humans, hosts from other trophic levels. However, information on human cases, as well as cases from alternative definitive hosts, is limited

Pregnancy-related disorders: molecular mechanisms and management.

Pregnancy-related disorders (PRDs), including preeclampsia (PE), gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), remain major causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity. This review synthesizes their molecular, endocrine, immune, and clinical features. We propose the Placental-Maternal Adaptation Failure Continuum (PMAFC), in which gestational/fetoplacental stress load interacts with maternal adaptive reserve. This load includes placenta-derived signals, the physiological demands of gestation and fetal growth, and secondary mat

Obstructive sleep apnoea severity and insulin resistance in children with Prader-Willi Syndrome: the SPISE index as a candidate metabolic marker.

UNLABELLED: We compared two surrogate markers of insulin sensitivity - the single-point insulin sensitivity estimator (SPISE) and HOMA-IR - and evaluated their associations with OSA severity in children with genetically confirmed PWS and a symptomatic non-syndromic referral group (NSR) with available polysomnography (PSG) and fasting biochemical data. In this single-centre retrospective cross-sectional study, OSA severity was indexed by the obstructive apnoea-hypopnoea index (oAHI), central AHI (cAHI) and oxygen desaturation index (ODI), and caregiver-reported symptoms by the PSQ-SRBD scale. SMCHD1 is a target for gene activation therapy to treat Prader-Willi syndrome.

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by loss of expression from the active paternal allele at an imprinted cluster on chromosome 15. Current treatments address individual symptoms rather than the underlying cause of disease. Because all patients preserve a normal but epigenetically silenced maternal copy of these genes, activation of this copy offers a potential disease-modifying therapy. Here, we investigated the epigenetic regulator SMCHD1. First, we demonstrated that SMCHD1 represses the PWS locus in both mice and humans, supporting its relevance as a therapeu

From iPSC Disease Modeling to Epigenome Editing: Toward Therapeutic Reversal of Genomic Imprinting Disorders.

Human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and organoids are increasingly important components of new approach methodologies because they provide experimentally accessible human systems that preserve patient-specific genetic backgrounds and can be differentiated into disease-relevant cell types. Genomic imprinting disorders are particularly attractive targets for this approach because their pathogenesis depends not only on DNA sequence but also on parent-of-origin-specific epigenetic regulation. Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) and Angelman syndrome (AS), which arise from distinct disruptions wit

Inflammation as a central driver in AML pathogenesis and therapy resistance.

Inflammation is a prominent feature of the bone marrow microenvironment in acute myeloid leukemia and contributes to leukemic evolution, progression, and therapeutic resistance. Accumulating evidence indicates that inflammatory signals in AML arise from multiple sources, including age-associated inflammaging, mutation-driven pathways, cell-intrinsic stress programs, and external inflammatory stimuli such as infections. These signals collectively facilitate the progression from clonal hematopoiesis and other pre-leukemic states to overt leukemia and support malignant expansion. Leukemic blasts,

Association between JAK2 mutations and thoracic aortic aneurysms in myeloproliferative neoplasms.

The Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) V617F mutation is recognized as a defining molecular lesion in Philadelphia chromosome-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). This mutation was recognized in the context of clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential, which has recently been linked with cardiovascular disease. Recent evidence has demonstrated a significant correlation between JAK2 mutations and thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) a condition frequently lacking identifiable risk factors. TET loss of function selects for aneuploidies that confer a proliferative advantage.

Mutations in the Ten-Eleven Translocation (TET) family of DNA dioxygenases are among the most common epigenetic alterations in clonal hematopoiesis and hematologic malignancies, yet how TET loss of function reshapes genome evolution during cellular expansion remains to be fully understood. Here we show that loss of Tet2/3 in invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells drives aggressive lymphoid expansion that is consistently associated with recurrent chromosome 17 trisomy, a dominant aneuploid state observed across more than ten independently derived tumors following transplantation into immunocom

Sex differences in neuropsychiatric genetics: progress in understanding mechanisms of risk and protection.

Sex differences in the prevalence and clinical presentation of neuropsychiatric disorders suggest a corresponding divergence in underlying biological risk mechanisms between males and females. Advances in neuropsychiatric genetics have started to resolve these differences, defining sex-differential genetic architectures and risk loci across common and rare variants on the autosomes and sex chromosomes, with the study of major depressive disorder and neurodevelopmental disorders leading the way. As we look to translate sex-differential genetic signals into mechanistic understanding, emerging ev
