BACKGROUND: The molecular mechanisms contributing to the poor prognosis of Clonorchis sinensis (Cs)-infected hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain poorly understood, especially when it comes to DNA methylation.
METHODS: Using parallel whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) and whole-genome oxidative bisulfite sequencing (oxWGBS), we characterized the profiles of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) in Cs-infected HCC tumors and adjacent non-tumor tissues at single-nucleotide resolution. These profiles were compared with data from non-Cs-infected HCC available in the GEO

Clonorchis sinensis primarily lives in the host liver and biliary system, leading to serious health issues, such as hepatobiliary lesions and cholangiocarcinoma. Establishment of rapid, sensitive and specific tools is of great significance for early diagnosis and management of clonorchiasis. Recently, molecular biological techniques have been widely used for detection of C. sinensis infections. This review summarizes the advances in the major molecular assays for detection of C. sinensis infections in intermediate and definite hosts, including PCR, loop-mediated isothermal amplification, clust

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary fungal infection (PFI) is a severe complication in patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Although helminth infections are increasingly recognized as potent modulators of host immunity, their influence on susceptibility to opportunistic fungal infections remains poorly understood. We investigated whether Clonorchis sinensis (C. sinensis) infection is associated with risk of PFI in AECOPD patients and explored potential immunological mechanisms underlying this association.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study inc

Neutrophils exert diverse functions in parasitic infections, including pathogen clearance and regulation of inflammation. However, their specific roles in the early stage of infection with Clonorchis sinensis (C. sinensis), a significant foodborne parasite that dwells in the bile ducts, remain largely unknown. In this study, FVB mice were orally infected with 50C. sinensis metacercariae, and neutrophils were depleted using an anti-Ly6G antibody whereas IgG isotype served as the control. Mice were sacrificed 14 days post-infection, and serum and liver tissue were collected to assess hepatobilia

Chronic liver fluke infections represent a major global health burden, driving liver fibrosis and elevating cancer risk, yet the immunological mechanisms linking persistent infection to tissue damage remain poorly defined. Using Clonorchis sinensis, a carcinogenic liver fluke infecting millions worldwide, as a representative model, we map immune responses during chronic infection in mice. We show that intrahepatic CD8⁺ tissue-resident memory T cells (TRM) progressively accumulate and drive pathology by producing chemokines that promote immune recruitment and fibroblast activation. Depletion of

WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN ABOUT THIS TOPIC?: Clonorchiasis, a major foodborne parasitic disease in China, is transmitted by eating raw or undercooked freshwater fish and shrimp containing metacercariae. Although prevalent in southeastern and northeastern China, it remains low-endemic in Henan, where raw freshwater fish is not traditionally eaten; indigenous cases are rare and most infections are imported.
WHAT IS ADDED BY THIS REPORT?: This report is China's first local clonorchiasis cluster in a low-endemic region. The Zhengzhou outbreak was linked to raw freshwater fish eaten at a dinner and dr

This article presented the diagnosis and treatment of three patients from the first imported familial clustering of clonorchiasis in Shanghai Municipality, and evaluated the value of different stool examination methods in non-endemic areas of clonorchiasis. In February 2026, the first case of clonorchiasis in this family was confirmed, and subsequent epidemiological surveys revealed that four family members all had a history of traveling to Guangdong Province and consuming raw freshwater fish. Stool samples were collected from all four individuals and detected for Clonorchis sinensis eggs usin

INTRODUCTION: Expansive processes around the third ventricle have always been a major neurosurgical challenge. Despite all the technological and scientific progress recorded over the last few years, third ventricle tumors are still a very difficult pathology to approach due to their formidable complexity.Treating such a tumor demands a good knowledge of local anatomy, pathophysiology, pathology and a good capacity to integrate all the data gathered from the patient prior to and during surgery. Last but not least, the correct means to approach such a tumor involves using modern neuronavigation

Liver infections comprise a large category of hepatic diseases which vary in etiology and geographic distribution. They remain a significant cause of morbidity and mortality globally and require prompt diagnosis and management. Because clinical and laboratory findings may not be definitive, imaging often plays an important role in the diagnosis, characterization, and follow-up of hepatic infections. Advanced imaging techniques increase accuracy of diagnosis of specific infectious pathogens and in some cases provide the means of differentiation of various infections from other hepatic pathologi

BACKGROUND: Clonorchiasis is an important foodborne parasitic disease in China caused by Clonorchis sinensis. Accurate and rapid diagnosis of this disease is vital for treatment and control. Traditional fecal examination methods, such as the Kato-Katz (KK) method, are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and have limited acceptance. The FA280, an advanced automated fecal analyzer, increases efficiency while significantly reducing labor load. This study aims to evaluate its performance, applicability, and scalability in clonorchiasis diagnosis to explore its potential application in the future.

BACKGROUND: Clonorchis sinensis infection is an important risk factor for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). C. sinensis positive (C.s+) ICC patients had much shorter overall survival (OS) compared with C. sinensis negative (C.s-) group. This study aims to explore the impact and underlying mechanism of C. sinensis infection on ICC progression.
METHODS: In this study, ICC patients underwent surgery from two medical centers enrolled. RNA sequencing was used to determine the downstream activated pathways and genes. Furthermore, we demonstrated the potential mechanism of C. sinensis infection

BACKGROUND: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer mortality globally, and its progression is associated with various factors, including parasitic infections such as Clonorchis sinensis (C. sinensis). Although C. sinensis infection has been implicated in HCC, the molecular mechanisms, particularly the role of microRNAs (miRNAs), remain poorly understood. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating the miRNA expression profiles in C. sinensis+ and C. sinensis- HCC tissues.
METHOD: We performed miRNA sequencing on HCC tissues from C. sinensis+ and C. sinensis- patient

Increasing evidence demonstrates that helminth and its components can ameliorate ulcerative colitis. Clonorchis sinensis (C. sinensis) is a kind of helminth that dwells in the bile ducts for many years, but the roles and underlying mechanisms of C. sinensis-induced protection from colitis are not elucidated. In the present study, the mice were infected with 50 C. sinensis metacercariae and further administrated with 4% Dextran Sodium Sulfate (DSS) in drinking water for 7 days on days 49 post-infection. The disease severity and the integrity of gut barriers were evaluated. Gut microbiota was me

Clonorchiasis, caused by Clonorchis sinensis, remains a significant neglected tropical disease with substantial global health implications. As the largest immune organ in mammals, the spleen plays a crucial role in defending against C. sinensis infection; however, the molecular mechanisms underlying spleen pathogenesis during such infections remain poorly understood. To address this gap, quantitative Tandem Mass Tags (TMT) liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was employed to profile protein changes in the spleens of rats infected with C. sinensis. This analysis identified 40,664 pept
